As I stated before in the blog Capoligist needed in Chicago, the Chicago Blackhawks are going to have to make some shrewd decisions this coming season to deal with the impending problems they’ll face regarding the salary cap.
With Kane, Toews, Keith, and others becoming RFA’s July 1st 2010, moves will have to be made to accommodate the salaries they’ll be demanding. It’s not an easy situation for any GM to navigate, but it appears that Dave Tallon won’t have to worry about it anymore.
The ‘Hawks replaced him with assistant general manager Stan Bowman, son of Hall of Fame coach and Blackhawks senior advisor Scotty Bowman. Stan Bowman has been with the Hawks’ organization for eight seasons, including the last two as assistant general manager. I’m sure the ‘Hawks are hoping the apple doesn’t fall too far from the tree. Seems like a strange time for Talon to get fired. He’s built a solid, exciting team that can challenge for the cup for several years.
I know he botched those free agent qualifying offers, but they didn’t lose any of the players. Not enough reason to fire him. There must be some things behind the scenes.
