Bertuzzi to the Red Wings? Marleau loses Captaincy

According to MLive.com, the Detroit Red Wings are close to signing free agent winger Todd Bertuzzi. The deal is reportedly worth $1.5 million for 1 year. This would be Bertuzzi’s second stint with the Wings; playing 8 regular season games in 2006-07 after a trade from Florida. The 34 year old winger recorded 44 points in 66 games last season for Calgary. Detroit is looking to replace some offense after losing Marian Hossa, Mikael Samuelsson, Tomas Kopecky, and Jiri Hudler.

Patrick Marleau, who has been mentioned in trade rumors for the last couple years, has had his captaincy removed. Dan Boyle might be a candidate to take over as the captain.

Heatley would be a great fit for the Sharks. But a better one would be Marleau, Cheechoo, AHL prospect & a 2/3 rounder to the Islanders for Kyle Okposo & Trent Hunter both RW. Gives the Islanders experence wingers for Taveres. Gives the Sharks cap relief. Trade Ehrhoff to the Blue Jackets for Jason Chimera or Jakub Voracek or Both. Then they have enough cap room to sign Zherdev 2.5-3M or Tanguay 3M 1 year for their other forward needs. This gives the Sharks alot more toughness up front. And any Good forward you place on Thornton line will give you the same production or more as Marleau. Danny Heatley would score 60-70 goals on Thornton’s line

I don’t see the Isles wanting to trade away Okposo for older players with questionable leadership abilities and high salaries.

The Blue Jackets could definitely use a player of Ehrhoff’s ability.

Zherdev and Tanguay are both interesting cases. I think they are holding out for more money, which is why they haven’t signed yet. I think Zherdev will end up going back to Russia, as they’ll be the only ones who’ll offer the money he wants.
