Adrian Dater of the Denver Post: The Colorado Avalanche have sent defenseman Scott Hannan to the Washington Capitals for forward Tomas Fleischmann. The Avalanche are looking to replace some scoring after losing Chris Stewart for at least a month.
Both will be an unrestricted free agents at seasons end. Hannan is a $4.5 million cap hit, with the Capitals assuming almost $3.2 million for the remainder of the year. The Avalanche will assume almost $1.85 million cap it for the rest of the year for Fleischmann.
The Capitals have been looking to add some blueline help, and Fleischmann has fallen from favor this season.

Looks like Colorado is trying to bring their spending down to $40 mil as close as possible. A growing trend amongst budget teams in the NHL. This should make their star players think twice about signing long-term contracts.

Was a nice move by the Avalanche.
They still could move another Dman or 2.
