this just totally ruined my day. what is an injured richards thinking about staying or leaving now that his best friend and roommate just got traded? neal was such an asset for the stars, in my opinion. i guess this means they expect way more out of jamie benn.

Dallas got the puck moving defenseman they wanted and shed some salary, saved $2.5 million next year.

One thing that is important to note: a year ago, Goligoski was one of the 5 most coveted young prospect NHL d-men in the league. He had/has very significant value.

And those players dont grow on trees, as they say..

Neal only had 39 points playing on a line with Brad Richards. Pretty underwhelming numbers. And he missed the net WAY more than he hit it….ruined many good scoring chances by not putting the puck on net. And, he was not responsible defensively. The Stars have a few power forwards on the roster but not really that puck moving defenseman. Niskanen won’t even be in Pittsburgh’s top 7 D-men rotation. On top of all of this the Stars saved money. What’s not to like from Dallas’ perspective?

Seems that PMD’s have a lot of value these days. I would say again about this trade that it’s pretty win-win.
Probably Goli will flourish as being the go-to-guy in Dallas. It’s tough to play having guys like Martin, Letang, Michalek and Orpik in front of you. Still pretty good numbers for a D.
And eventhough he wouldn’t rack up that many points still he seems to be a difference maker with those smart passes and getting the offence rolling all the time.

But if Neal picks it up in Pittsburgh and nets that 35 goals, i’d say Pitt won. Niskanen was obviously just a salary dump, probably to get room for Richards?
