Several file for arbitration … Some interest in Langenbrunner … What the Leafs offered Richards … Burke on free agency … Kaberle’s interest “limited”

  • Andrew Gross via twitter: NY Rangers forward Brian Boyle to file for arbitration, some goes for Brandon Dubinsky, and most likely for Ryan Callahan. Dubinsky will file, but they are hopeful a contract can get done before their hearing.
  • Tom Gulitti via twitter: Jamie Langenbrunner’s agent said this morning that a few teams are interested and  he’s mulling offers.
  • Michael Traikos of the National Post: Brian Burke on free agency,

“We were in on most of the free agents that signed,” said Burke. “We were aware of what they were getting, we made offers on a number of them. The term that was given to multiple players, the salaries that were paid to multiple players just made no sense to us at all. And we have cash and cap space. That doesn’t mean it’s sensible to spend it on marginal players. It makes no sense.”

  • Kevin McGran of the Toronto Star: The market for Tomas Kaberle according to one NHL source is “limited” and “Not like he wanted.” The Bruins still hold some interest, as do Nashville and Minnesota.

6 yr deal for Richards makes sense, but they obviously knew that wasnt going to get it done.

They paid Through the nose for Giggie last year,7 Million for the prototypical Vet who comes to Toronto for a Vacation and a Pay Check.Offering Richards 7 Million a Year is laughable,Burke could have offered him 9million for 3 years, instead of over paying for players like MacArthur and Lombardi..I don’t know what it would cost to bring in Scotty Bowman, but it would be worth it.. Management has always been the Leafs Achillies Heel.. Tim Connelly is a good gamble,to bad it’s the fans that suffer when a player fails to produce… Enjoy your paycheck Burke, your Vacation is almost over!!!!

LOOK at the comment by Burke above,”That doesn’t mean it’s sensible to spend it on marginal players. It makes no sense.*and yet he signs*(Connolly 5.5M)-(Lupul 4.25M)-(Lombardi 3.5M)-(MacArthur 3.25M)-(Liles 4.55M)-Grabovsky and Kulemin-2 of our best players last year, completely underpaid, and Tim Brent for his hard work and great defensive play wasn’t even offered a contract… Burke needs to quit talking into his hat, cause it sounds like he’s talking outta somewhere else, cause it smell like the same old crap.
