- Randy Youngman of the OC Register: The Ducks have lost 6 in a row, and sit 1 point out of last place with 6-12-4 record. Is it time to fire the coach? Trade one of their top players? They’re likely not going to fire Randy Carlyle. Bobby Ryan said “So we can’t blame them if they pull the trigger on something.” If GM Bob Murray were to make a major trade, it would likely involve Ryan Getzlaf or Bobby Ryan, as Corey Perry is probably untouchable.
- Andy Strickland via twitter: 8 teams have called Coyotes GM Don Maloney within a half hour after they signed Kyle Turris. Two teams were strongly considering signing him to an offer sheet.
- Pierre LeBrun of ESPN: Blues forward Andy McDonald’s concussion status is “status quo.” He’s not skating yet. On David Perron
“There’s no target date for his return, but he’s skating with the team in full practice situations,” Blues GM Doug Armstrong told ESPN.com on Friday. “When he feels he can go, we’ll put him in.”
Panthers GM Dale Tallon:
“We’re not going to do much. We’re going to keep to the same plan, we’re going to stick with it and see where it takes us,” Tallon told ESPN.com. “There’s a long way to go yet before we make decisions on this team [ahead of the Feb. 27 trade deadline]. But we know we got some good prospects coming so that’s exciting.”
- Sam Carchidi via twitter: James van Riemsdyk will be out a week or two with an undisclosed injury.
- Pat Hickey of the Montreal Gazette: Canadiens coach Jacques Martin said that there’s a possibility that Andrei Kostitsyn returns to their lineup. He’s been out 10 games with a groin injury.
- Rob Longley of the Toronto Sun: Defenseman Carl Gunnarsson and forward David Steckel left last night’s game Maple Leafs game after blocking shots.
- Adrian Dater of the Denver Post: The Avalanche had Matt Duchene and Paul Stastny back together at practice yesterday, with Milan Hejduk on the right side. Gabriel Landeskog, Ryan O’Reilly and Daniel Winnik were reunited. TJ Galiardi centered Cody McLeod and David Jones. Defenseman Erik Johnson has a groin injury and is doubtful against the Oilers. Peter Mueller also has a groin injury and hasn’t skated for 3 days.
- Scott Cruickshank of the Calgary Herald: Blake Comeau will play on the Flames 3rd line with Roman Horak and Lee Stempniak.

any thoughts on what is wrong with the ducks? how can you have bobby ryan, getzlaf, perry and selanne in your forwards and be tanking this much? why is selanne the only one have a good season?
it looks like they have a pretty weak d… why is lubomir v. having such a horrible season after being such an offensive juggernaut last year?
i cant see them trading getzlaf or bobby ryan… unless you are getting a 1 or 2 d man back… i wouldnt mind a luke schenn + kadri package for either bobby ryan or getzlaf…

Part of the Ducks’ problem is goaltending. Hiller has been borderline dreadful.
If you were giving up both Schenn and Kadri, the Leafs should be getting a pick coming back their way. Maybe Cody Franzon + Kadri + 2nd round pick would be better, but if it were Getzlaf, the Leafs could get more out of the Ducks because of his $5.75MM contract for this year and next.
Both teams match up well for trade partners, but after Burke swindled them out of Gardiner, I dunno if they’d want to trade again :p

agreed… you also cannot expect the leafs and flames to do anymore major trades for quite a while.. so i dont think the leafs are in on the rene bourque trade talk…

Schenn+Kadri may be a Ryan, never a Getzlaf. The other proposal is not even worth a thought. Plus, you’re talking about Getzlafs 5.75M, as if it was a bad contract, whereas he and Perry have the most cap friendly contracts for their caliber. So again, the Ducks could get way more out of Toronto.

I think they’d move Ryan before Getzlaf, and I’m still not sure they’d move either.
Would you want anyone from Calgary anyways?

toronto could use rene bourque as a 2nd/3rd liner… especially with all the injury problems as of late…
i think burke is going to hold off on making trades at this point, unless its for a goalie…
im guessing he is going to hold onto his assets for the most part and try to land a legitimate top 3 guy..

Maybe the Leafs trade their 1st rounder in a package for Getzlaf in a couple months if it looks like the Leafs will make the playoffs and Anaheim continues to flop. It’s still too early to really think about it IMO.

It’s funny that all 7 comments here are about the leafs snagging one of the boys. You guys are crazy if you think that Getzy or Perry are getting traded and I can’t really see Ryan being moved either. Leafs fans are nuts with all of there “rumours”. Every superstar caliber player that becomes a RFA is rumoured to go to the leafs but have any of you noticed that it hasn’t happened once yet? Don’t get me wrong, I love the leafs but please boys, throwing names onto a comment page doesn’t make it a rumour, it just makes you look silly.

although it might seem farfetched, there are a few things to consider, that would make it seem possible..
- burke has lots of assets and loads of depth on their forward and defence position.
- toronto/anaheim have been trade partners in the past. i dont think there is ill will concerning them getting gardiner. its fairly common for a prospect to develop differently when they reach a new team.
- toronto/anaheim are in different conferences.
- toronto not only has the assets that anaheim might need, but they also have the rare ability to take on/ bury salary.
- anaheim moving bobby ryan or getzlaf, may be the required shock to the system to get that team going. i agree that ryan might be the more easier to part with. the leafs might even consider offering grabovski.
- the leafs have show that they are in the market for superstars. think, phaneuf and kessel. again, only certain teams can go after these high end players. burke has shown a pattern of going hard after what he wants. he even tried to land us tavares. look at his history also of making big trades… pronger, kessel, phaneuf, sedins, mogilny..
- the leafs can overpay all day
- also, the leafs are amazing and fantastic

Well thought-out points. Grabovski isn’t going anywhere since his contract is up at the end of the season, and is a UFA. Also, I just noticed the Leafs have no cap space available, and the only logical player to demote, Komisarek, has a no-movement clause, so I just don’t see it happening unless Komisarek was part of the deal, which ain’t happening.
@Lenny: Hope you enjoyed wasting 5 minutes of your life writing that out.

Flyers fan here. Does Brayden Schenn net Bobby Ryan straight up, or would more be required from either team? Just looking for opinions, and preferably none that include anything about how dirty Philly is or hitting Santa with snowballs. Thanks!
