- George Richards via twitter: Any trade rumors involving the Panthers and Kyle Turris are not true. GM Dale Tallon has said he’s done, Christmas roster freeze is set.
- Sam Carchidi via twitter: Flyers GM Paul Holmgren confirms that Chris Pronger’s concussion started with the high stick to the eye he got against Toronto.
- Craig Custance via twitter: The Flyers will gain almost $5 million in salary cap space when Pronger is put on the LTIR. Custance provides some options for the Flyers. 1. Increase the workload for the top four: Kimmo Timonen, Matt Carle, Braydon Coburn and Andrej Meszaros all average over 20 minutes (3 over 22 min.). “They take turns now, one of them usually ends up with 27 or 28 (minutes) every night,” Holmgren said. 2. Start leaning more on youth: They’ve like the way Kevin Marshall and Marc-Andre Bourdon have played, and Erik Gustafsson is about 10 days away. 3. A trade to add depth on defense: As the trade deadline gets closer, the market will clear up. GM Holmgren could call the Hurricanes to see about Joni Pitkanen, Jaroslav Spacek or Tim Gleason. The Senators could move Sergei Gonchar or Filip Kuba. Cody Franson of the Maple Leafs could be an option if he is available. 4. A Blockbuster: Holmgren could be in the mix if the Predators decide to trade one of Ryan Suter or Shea Weber. Brayden Schenn could be part of big deal if it were to happen.
- TSN: Mike Milbury has been charged with assaulting a 12 year old hockey player. Milbury is an assistant coach on his son’s team and “allegedly grabbed, threatened and shook the opposing player .” He has been charge with assault and battery and threats to commit a crime and disorderly conduct. Milbury denies the charges and his lawyer released a statement:
“He simply intervened in an altercation between his son and an opposing player,” the statement said. “No one was struck, no one was injured and no one was threatened.”
- Adrian Dater of the Denver Post: Answering readers questions, Dater notes that Paul Stastny could bring back a 1st round pick if they were to deal him. But do the Avs give up on him, and how hard would it be to move his $6.6 million cap hit (2 years left)? He also thinks David Jones could possibly bring back a 1st rounder.
- Rich Hammond via twitter: Mike Richards was to join the team in Detroit and is likely to practice with them on Sunday in Toronto.
- Joanne Ireland of the Edmonton Journal: The Oilers have sent forward Magnus Paajarvi to Oklahoma City of the AHL.
- Sam Carchidi via twitter: The 3 games Flyers forward Matt Read missed in November were due to a concussion.
- Katie Carrera via twitter: Michal Neuvirth is expected to start in net for the Capitals tonight against the Avalanche. Mike Chambers of the Denver Post: It’s likely that Semyon Varlamov gets the start for the Avalanche.

I would not count out Holmgren from trading for a stud defenceman.

Adrian Dater of the Denver Post: Answering readers questions, Dater notes that Paul Stastny could bring back a 1st round pick
Is he serious? Or Drunk?
Stasny isn’t worth anymore than a third rounder at this stage of his pathetic career.

I wouldn’t go so far as to say he’s only worth a 3rd-round pick, but he sure ain’t worth a 1st-rounder. Maybe a 2nd-round pick and an average prospect is fair value. He’s putting up poor numbers on a bad team (they’re only anywhere near .500 because Giguere has been standing on his head).

Also, David Jones? Worth a 1st-rounder? Double-u tee eff.. Adrian Dater needs to stop sniffing whiteout fumes.

i think paul stasney would bring back a first rounder. just because you may think a player “sucks” or is “pathetic” does not mean that you have to lower his trade value.
looking at stasny’s stats, he is definitely worth a first rounder and a prospect. look what phoenix just got back for turris — another former 1st rounder, and a mid round 2nd rounder.
teams looking for a #2 or #3 centre, would definitely give up something like a 1st ++. the interest in stastny would be very high.
certain players with seemingly less trade value, have garnered more than a 1st rounder… see: kaberle, penner, mike fisher, versteeg.

Paul Stastny worth 3rd? That I would say was written after sniffing fumes.
Stastny is known for his hockey IQ passing skills and at 26 or somehting he isn’t even close retiring or closing up his career. Come on…
Is Troy Brouwer is worth a 1st, then is David Jones IMO. Probably a second but when some team is desperate anything could happen.

It’s not that I think Paul Stastny sucks.
It’s true that i’m NO fan of his, and i only base my opinion on Fact.
Look up his stats and tell me his career isn’t on a decline.
If he’s Worth a first round pick, then so is Clark MacArthur.
Check your facts before you respond with your idiotic opinions.

What was so idiotic there?
You can think that Stastny sucks, im not arguing with that, but it is simply different matter what are facts and what you think.
He is on decline for now, but so has been the whole Colorado team hasn’t it? Not many good scorers for Stats there.
Peace man \m/

stastny is not some 30+ year old.. he is a 26 year old who has had a very good career. he is definitely a number 2 centre.. and there are a lot of teams, where he would be a number 1 centre… think calgary, toronto, columbus, winnipeg, montreal, new jersey…
your opinion that his career is on the decline makes no sense. peoples careers and point totals are not some strict bell curve on a graph. by your strict logic, you can say that selanne’s career has been on the decline since he scored 76 in his rookie year.
again, you have to look historically, on what kind of players have fetched a #1 pick (see my above post).
#1 and #2 centres are always going to fetch a premium, because there is always going to be teams that will overpay…
your logic is not based on any sort of human reason. its not based on trade history. its not based on statisical analysis. its not based on team needs.
it seems to me, that all you are saying, is that he sucks, and is worth nothing. that seems to be a summary of your opinion.

@ hotwing
Please do not speak of logic when it is painfully obvious that you ill of any.
It is also obvious that you did no research before you posted your jibberish.

I havent been watching Colorado this year (and hardly at all last year). Don, why is he declining? Is he not playing defence, is he not playing a good all around game?
I was very high on him just two seasons ago, but i havent seen him enough to know whether his game has taken a hit.
