Sunday morning NHL rumors and injury notes
  • Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun: Garrioch on Canadiens GM Pierre Gauthier firing Jacques Martin: “The wrong man lost his job, but you have to think at some point or another they’ll come to their senses in Montreal and show Gauthier the door.” The Panthers are looking to add a top 6 scoring forward. GM Dale Tallon may be looking to move backup goalie Scott Clemmensen and his $1.5 million salary. The Kings were trying to move Dustin Penner before they made the move to fire Terry Murray, but no one would take him. The Wild have depth in goal with Josh Harding and Matt Hackett, and may look to bring in some blue line help before the trade deadline. There has been talk about bringing back the red line. The Hurricanes could move Jaroslav Spacek and Tim Gleason, and the Wild could try to land one of them. League executives think Burke will be working hard to find some depth down the middle. The Leafs aren’t shopping Nazem Kadri, but there would be plenty of interest. The Blue Jackets want a player making less than $600,000 or a prospect in return for Derick Brassard.
  • Elliotte Friendman via twitter: Penguins GM Ray Shero:

“The only thing on my mind is signing Sidney Crosby…We want him to be a Penguin for life. That’s the goal. Nothing has changed.”

“I’m under the assumption that he’s going to play in the NHL for another 10 or 15 years.”

  • Katie Carrera of the Washington Post: Capitals defenseman Mike Green joined the team in Denver but didn’t practice with them yesterday. There is still no timeline on his return. He hasn’t played since Nov. 11th.
  • Damian Cristodero of the Tampa Bay Times: Lightning forward Martin St. Louis is still out with facial fractures, and it’s not known for how long. St. Louis was able to do some off-ice workout on Friday, but he can’t return to practice until his depth perception returns.
  • Rich Hammond of the LA Kings Insider: Kings defenseman Willie Mitchell expects to play tomorrow in Toronto. Mike Richards still hasn’t been cleared for contact. Richards on if he’s still feeling symptoms:

“Yeah, a little bit. It’s hard to distinguish, though, whether it’s taking two weeks off and then going out there and skating, or whether it’s lingering effects. We’re going to take it slow. We’re going to skate a couple times and see how I feel after that. I obviously hope to be back sooner than later.’’

  • Dustin Leed via twitter: At yesterday’s Flyers game: 2 Capitals scouts, 2 from the Blackhaws, 1 Predators scout, and some others.
