Lightning will likely turn to Schneider … Injury notes: Parise, Kindl, Howard, Timonen, Meszaros, Bogosian, Comeau and Downie

  • Damian Cristodero of the Tampa Bay Times: Since the Lightning weren’t interested in giving up a 2nd round pick for Ben Bishop, speculation is that they’ll turn to Cory Schneider in the summer. They have 2 1st round picks and likely 4 2nd rounders. Schneider has a career 32-14-4 record with a 2.36 GAA and .924 SV%.
  • Rich Chere of the Star-Ledger: Devils winger Zach Parise injured his hand yesterday, that may required him to get x-rays. He doesn’t think, and hopes it isn’t broken. He was hit in the hand with a Milan Jurcina shot.
  • George Sipple of the Detroit Free Press: Red Wings defenseman Jakub Kindl tried to play yesterday, but only last 2 shifts before leaving with an upper-body injury. More importantly for the Red Wings, Jimmy Howard left after the 1st period with a lower-body injury, and is day-to-day.
  • Adrian Dater via twitter: Avalanche forward Steve Downie has a shoulder injury, this timetable won’t be known until today.

I wonder what Schneider is worth?

If you are Van, do you say: “Ok, well, we’ll consider it, but the price is 2 1st round picks, 2 second round picks, and a piece that can help in the short term”.

They dont have to trade him. And teams like CBJ and Toronto are sure to check in on him.

Well, based on Schneider’s play and the Varlamov trade last year, it’ll start at one 1st round pick and one 2nd round pick. It could go as high as adding a 2nd and/or a player. Two 1+ two 2 is too much imo.

Actually, in Vancouver’s place, I’d heavily consider trading Luongo instead and making Schneider the new franchise goalie backed up by Eddie Lack.

As a Canucks fan I would rather see them deal Luongo to the Lightening and keep Cory Schmeider.
Rather than looking at this emotionally look at it statistically and longevity wise.
Luongo is in his thirty’s and has played a lot oh hard, hard NHL games and his body has paid a heavy price over the years. Yes, he is still a very good goalie but for how much longer?
Schneider is younger (a lot) and has been very, very good. In fact better than was at the same stage of his career. Cory has a lot of great years ahead of him. Roberto…not so many. Cory will be hugely more affordable which will give the team a lot of extra cap space (especially if the new CBA includes a roll back) and when the Sedin’s contract expires the Canucks will be in a better place financially to deal with
    that eventuality.

If by chance the Canucks deal Schneider to the Lightning I would want at least one starting player, one first rounder and a second round pick.

TB top prospect is a Center, which you dont need.

I think Connolly has been playing the wing this year.
