Zach Parise and Ryan Suter have both decided to sign with the Minnesota Wild.
- Pierre LeBrun via twitter: Parise gets a 13 year deal worth $98 million. Elliotte Friedman via twitter: Reports that both contracts are the same. (works out to about a $7,538,461.54 cap hit)
- Elliotte Friedman via twitter: “Salary breakdown for Suter/Parise: $12M next two seasons, then $11M, followed by five years at $9M. Last five years are: 8, 6, 2, 1, 1.” Pierre LeBrun via twitter: “Parise and Suter each get $25 million in signing bonuses: $10 M payable now, $10 M payable July 1, 2013 and $5 M on July 1, 2014″
- Elliotte Friedman via twitter: On legitimacy of the deals : “because contract drops by more than 50 per cent from Year 10 to 11 ($6M to $2M)…That CBA article (known as the 100 per cent rule) is tied into the first two seasons of a contract. Because Suter/Parise will make $12M…In seasons 1 and 2, the max drop can be $6M from year to year. So there are no issues on the back end.”
- Josh Cooper via twitter: Sources saying the Predators offered was 13 years, $90 million.
- Will DePaoli via twitter: DePaoli can confirm that Parise decision came down to the Wild and Devils. If Suter were to pick the Red Wings, Parise would have headed back to New Jersey.
- Pierre LeBrun via twitter: Predators GM David Poile said they never got a chance to make a counter-offer.

minny should have a lock on the playoffs for the next 8 years… glad they didnt sign with the pens/flyers/wings… spreads the talent out more… the wild have gotta be one of the top 5 teams in the league now…

Hey Suter, Parise hope your money is worth never getting a cup. Thought you two played the game cause you loved it not cause your money grubbing bums.

Glad to get Weber out of the division and neither signed with Detroit or Pittsburgh.
#4 by Shark at July 4th, 2012
Yea jt, they still dont have hope lol. and no, hot wings, they are still nowhere near the top five in the league..
#5 by JT at July 4th, 2012
Agreed shark. Bet the wings get there 12th cup before they get their 1st. Two players don’t make a team that’s for sure and surely does not put them in the top 5. Only one team I know of that’s made the playoffs 21 consecutive years.

Id say they are deff at least a top 8 now, a healthy koivu and a rebound year from heatley and setoguchi add suter and parise and solid goaltending from backstrom harding and hackett, there looking perty dam good! !

5 players taking up half of the cap (Koivu, Heatley, Parise, Suter, and Backstrom). So much for depth…
#8 by hotwings at July 4th, 2012
they gotta lotta youth and prospects that are gonna get an idle situation to develop in… backstrom is up at the end of the year… heatley, 2 more years…
maybe they can develop harding more, and trade backstrom for a backup +,+
things lookin good in mini…

Cant see Minn. making the playoffs for a while. Even though the get Suter they still dont have jack for D.

How do you think the NW division standings go next year? I’m gonna get hate for this but I’ll say
1.Edmonton
2.Minnesota
3.Colorado
4.Vancouver
5.Calgary.
Vancouver looked so good last year because of their division, the whole division has improved big time now though while the Canucks are a year older.
#11 by rslavin at July 4th, 2012
Hope the money was worth the frustration of losing
14 points out of a playoff spot last year and most of the teams ahead of Minn. that didnt make it to the playoffs also improved. Good luck

What?
Vancouver has always been overated but Edmonton had 74 points last year and vancouver doesnt fall that far
#13 by Datt at July 4th, 2012
The Wild have two surefire prospects in Mikael Granlund (who will be playing next year) and Charlie Coyle (traded by my Sharks), as well as Hackett in goal and Brodin on D. One of the best farms, they now have a solid team for the next 5+. Compared to the aging Wings, I’d bet my money MN gets their cup first.

NW…
1.Van
2.Minnesota
3.Colorado
4.Edmonton
5.Calgary
i still cant see edmonton getting into the playoffs… vancouver i think made a big mistake letting hodsgon go for kassian… van seems to be trending downwards but i think they will still clinch division.
calgary still looks like its on life support and wont rebuild until iginla and kipper are collecting their pensions at del boca vista…
#15 by Patrick at July 4th, 2012
I think Edmonton adding Schultz and Yakupov is about as big as Parise and Suter. Not to mention Hall, Nuge, Ebs. I think Edmonton will finally be as good as they should be, they also have a coach now. Vancouver is trending way down I wouldn’t be shocked if they missed the playoffs entirely. Colorado is the wild card here.

schultz is unproven.. could be another christian hanson or f.brunstrom… yakupov… who knows at this point as well…

Schultz and yakupov are pretty proven. Edm has had great success with the first overall pick the last few years.

1)Vancouver
2)Minnesota
3)Colorado
4)Edmonton
5)Calgary
Minny will have a chance to be the top team, but will come short the first year, Colorado will fight for the 8th spot and the rest will be out.
Edmonton has no defense. Even Schultz is an offensive D and unproven.
Calgary needs wo wkae up and not forcing the issue with this line-up. Maybe this was their last year to trade Iginla for something valuable. They will contend for the MAcKinnon sweepstakes and maybe, MAYBE then will they come to their senses and start a rebuild, which they should have some years ago.
