Getzlaf looked every bit his old self against Vancouver, and even if he's slipped a bit, Murray and the Ducks could ill afford to lose him. Both Perry and Getzlaf signed very cap friendly contracts with little fuss as RFA's. After Selanne, they're the two biggest faces of the franchise, and have grown some roots in the community. Few here in Anaheim expect them to leave.

Me neither. I can only guess. There was no external issue that we know of, anything public.
Maybe pressure got the best of him, being a young father unable to be there for his kid's firsts, combined with being a new captain, wanting Selanne to quit the game on a high note, trying too hard to get out of his own slump while helping the team get up from the floor as well, potential trade rumors flying around.

Close to player sources have mentioned on the Ducks boards that he's matured a lot through last year and during the lockout, that he is a different man. It sounded really positive and he seems to be committed. I'd like to think from an overall Ducks perspective that this lockout was rather helpful mentally, phisically and prospect-wise.

All i hope for is a playoff spot and proper development and experience for the prospects, besides locking Perry and Getzlaf up ofc :D
I don't think they're contenders yet, but could be very well on course.

Getzlaf was 99th in the league in points per game, so there is the potential for a "misfire". I think he's great, but i would need to very comfortable that i know why he declined so much last season -- before i give him an 8 year extension (which is undoubtedly what his agent is asking for).

What do you think was the issue last year?

(i really dont know)

Bogus.
There is no tough spot there.
Even last year's Getzlaf was better than half the other teams' first line centers, there is simply no reason for the two sides to part. There is no better option even, and the No.1 line C market is poor, but I'm sure Toronto fans know that.
Even if he won't live up to a potential big money contract (which I don't expect to happen), there are a lot of teams who would jump on trading for him. You can not misfire by locking him up.

The Ducks are in a really tough situation with Getzlaf. They have what...25 games to try to figure out whether he is the 2010 version or the 2012 version of Getzlaf. The former is worth a long-term contract, and the later is a 2nd or 3rd line Center. Ducks are in a really tough spot.

On the other hand, i think Perry is a much better bet to rebound long-term.

Gillis isn't too bright if he thinks a 33-yeah old goalie past his prime years, and with a $5.33M cap hit for the next 9 years, is worth as much as he belives.

Besides, he talks about contractual issues as if his team has none, when next year they'll be over the salary cap themselves.

Hilarious.
