League Notes: Court rules against NHL, NHL-NHLPA talking World Cup and Europe, and Escrow set
  • John Shannon: “Arizona courts rules against NHL in its claim that former owner Jerry Moyes should be held responsible for losses since 2009. Court also rules that Moyes is not responsible for paying Wayne Gretzky more than 6.5 million dollars he is owed from the franchise.
  • Pierre LeBrun of ESPN: The NHL and NHLPA will meet next week to look at a World Cup of Hockey and having regular season games in Europe. One idea is to have games late in October and not at the beginning of the season as they’ve had in the past. Next year, either two or four teams could head overseas. The World Cup of Hockey could be held in September 2015 or 2016. 2015 is more likely as to avoid the Summer Olympics and the FIFA World Cup.
  • Bob McKenzie: NHL players will pay 20 percent escrow this month. It can be re-adjusted during the season.
