He should get 10 games minimum. He was out of control all game and on this hit he left his feet aiming for Penner’s head. This is the exact garbage that needs to be eliminated from the game.

    couldnt agree more James.
I do feel bad saying this but they need this guy suspended for half the season. send a message to anyone else that thinks this is remotely acceptable.

IMO it’s a perfectly clean hit. Feet leave the ice after the hot and principle point of contact is the chest not the head. If we’re talking about hits that need to be eliminated from the game then we should be talking about grabner’s hit.

I fear James and Mark are both mistaken here, in my personal opinion.

He doesn’t appear to leave his feet to make the hit (feet leave the ice as contact is being made), but despite the fact that Penner is already bent over and in a somewhat vulnerable position, Garbutt rises as he’s about to make the hit — before the impact.
For the principle point of contact to be the chest, Garbutt would have had to be even lower than Penner at the time of the collision, which he was not.
It actually appears that the brunt of the collision occurred helmet-to-helmet, which is not only dangerous but incredibly reckless on Garbutt’s part.

Since this will be his first offense, I can’t see it being more than a 2 game suspension, though it is an in-person hearing which enables the NHL to suspend him for more than 5 games if they feel it is necessary.
