Morning Rumors: Oilers and Flyers, Scouting Avs-Flames and Ducks goaltenders

  • Ryan Rishaug: Don’t hold your breath on another Oilers trade coming soon. Sense is they are done for the time being, nothing imminent.
  • Dan Tencer: Oilers GM Craig MacTavish on the rumor mill: “Certainly no moves imminent and hopefully none for quite some time.”
  • Derek Van Diest: MacTavish said that rumors of them trading Jordan Eberle are ridiculous.
  • Brian Lawton: (8:31 PM last night) Ales Hemsky on the move to the Flyers for a forward and a defenseman, with their names starting with “S” … (8:50 PM – his next tweet) “For those wondering tonight we are putting out every rumour we hear because you can feel the desperation from some clubs with realization”
  • Bob Stauffer: “Some wild stuff out there…Eberle and Hemsky stuff. Total BS.”
  • Mark Spector: The Oilers are crazy about Flyers Wayne Simmonds. Spector thinks they would move Eberle or Yakupov for him.
  • Craig Custance of ESPN: (mailbag) Custance doesn’t think it makes sense for the Oilers to trade Yakupov when his value is so low.
  • Adrian Dater via Sulia: The Penguins and Blue Jackets were scouting the Avalanche-Flames game last night. The Blue Jackets are rumored to be looking to make a move.
  • Dejan Kovacevic: “Watching debacle in Anaheim. Ryan Miller needs to get out of Buffalo. Doesn’t matter where. Doesn’t deserve this. Sabres don’t deserve him.”
  • Craig Custance: (mailbag) When asked about what the Ducks would do with their surplus of goalies … They would send one of their goalies for a defenseman in a perfect world. Teams that may need a goalie are not deep on the blueline. Teams that may be looking for a goalie would prefer to send prospects and picks. Custance thinks the Ducks should be patient. Teams like the Blues or Penguins may want to shore up between the pipes later on in the season. An injury may hit another team.

If what Craig Custance is saying is true then why didn’t Mac T ship Smid to Anaheim for one of their goalies? Please Mac T don’t do a Doug Risebrough move and trade a Gilmour for Leeman.

Mark Spector is an idiot, as are most of the Sportsnet crew. Not one of them would have a clue how to manage a team. I PVR all Oiler’s and Flames games so I can fast forward through the intermissions so I don’t have to listen to the likes of Spector, Shannon, Kyperos, etc.

oilers will leave a player in Philadelphia and Flyers will put two guys on that EDM plane

Anaheim fan with my eye on Florida’s Gudbranson and Islanders’ Reinhart. If we got a call, I think we’d consider moving Andersen with low draft picks to even it out for which side feels like they’re getting ripped off

@Yahweh’s Messenger, we’re deep in blueline vets. More interested in d prospects

Paul, we (Ducks) are many on the blueline, but not deep. Fowler’s D pair needs an upgrade. We need a physical guy.
I’ve been keeping my eye on Johnny Boychuk from Boston for while, who could be an ideal pair on the right side.
Ofc, he’d need to be deemed expendable for that, so I hope Hamilton, Krug and Bartkowski’s play give a reason to that. I’d also send Sbisa the other way with a prospect/+pick.

So… Schenn and Simmonds for Hemsky?
Simmonds and schenn are each worth more than Hemsky. Simmonds is a 50 point a year grinder who is almost a 30 goal guy as well, Schenn was just traded for moved for JVR, he has a good deal of potential and still has a few years to grow before he should blossom. Hemsky is a good skilled guy who can not stay healthy.
Simmonds and schenn are both still young and stay healthy. If the oil get those two it would do for a much better player (Eberle or Yakopov)

AJ, fair enough, but it’s more of a cap space issue than anything. Most of our d contracts last thru next season and Perreault, Silfverberg, Smith-Pelly, Bonino, Vatanen and Holland are all looking for raises as their contracts expire. If we wanna stay under the cap, we’re gonna have to be really frugal and that’s why I’m thinking elite prospects for proven players. Entry level contracts r really easy on the cap and we’ll have the room to give them what they deserve once souray and Allen’s contracts expire after next season. If we tried to bring in Boychuck right now he’d push us over the cap so we’d have to trade away 3+mil in contracts (allen@3.5, sbisa@2.2) Of the 2 that I mentioned, Reinhart’s still in juniors and Gudbranson’s only 900K(plus bonuses) but they’re both big physical d men who would benefit a ton from playing under niedermayer. Personally, I’m a Lovejoy fan, but I kno where ur coming from, he’s more of a 7th d. But I think in general, we’re on the same page. The only player we want that we don’t have is a natural right side, physical defenseman to add a little aggression

Just for clarity: Hiller for Boychuck would fit the cap. I can’t see them trading him so I forgot to mention it. But it is possible
