Morning Rumors: Souray, Gaborik, Laviolette, Playoffs, Pacioretty and 2015 Winter Classic

  • Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal: Matheson wonders where Sheldon Souray fits in on the Ducks blueline when he returns. Marian Gaborik is now out with a broken collarbone, and the Blue Jackets wouldn’t mind getting out from his $7.5 million contract. It likely won’t happen till closer to the trade deadline when his salary gets closer to $1.5 million.
  • Larry Brooks: Brooks doesn’t think the report of the Islanders interested in Peter Laviolette if they decide on a coaching change. Many GMs didn’t know how the playoff format would work until a couple weeks ago. Expect the GMs to push for a change over the summer. The NHLPA insisted on the wild-card/crossover.

“If that’s what the players wanted, there couldn’t have been any players involved in the decision,” one prominent player said this week.

  • Arpon Basu: Canadiens Max Pacioretty is not Jacques Martin’s type of player. GM Marc Bergevin won’t trade him to the East. Credible sources are reporting these rumors, so you think there has to be something to them.

Except Jacques Martin hasn’t been with the organization since 2011. So much for credible.

Can some different teams host the Winter Classic…? I’m sick of seeing the same teams year after year.

I agree with Travis. If Eastern teams are gonna host it why not have them play against Western teams?

I’d love to see teams like Colorado, Minnesota and any Canadian team host it.

Not gonna happen though since the league is run by a few Eastern teams on the board of governors.

No, Pacioretty is not Martin’s type of player… But it doesn’t matter because the head coach is Michel Therrien, and Max fits the system very well. And our GM’s name is Marc Bergevain, not Bergeron.

Don’t understand why the Habs would even think about trading Pacioretty. They have a glut of centers and they’re gonna trade their best winger who has a long-term, team-friendly contract?

If Bergevin really wants to make a big move, he should be dealing Plekanec for a legit top-6 winger. Let Galchenyuk center the top line now (he’ll be doing it soon enough), while Eller covers Plek’s role as a two-way center.

Jacques Martin ??? Credibily 101 !!! Yeah right !!! Jacques Martin is not anymore in Montreal since dont know when… and i dont miss him at all.

Otherwise, why trade Pacio… Plekanec, Gionta, Markov, Drewiskie, Moen, Parros…. old those old fart who either they cost to much for nothing or they are at the end of there career, we dont need them at all. And people who say, what the f*** im talking about with Markov… sorry but we have PK, Gorges, Diaz and we have some rookie in the AHL who can be help full more then Bouillon, Murray and Markov… im thinking about Beaulieu, Tinordi and some other’s.

Anyways… lot of rumor but let’s wait couple week 😉
