Tortorella Suspended for 15 days … Hartley fined

The NHL has suspended Vancouver Canucks head coach John Tortorella for 15 days (6 games) and fined Calgary Flames head coach Bob Hartley $25,000 for their actions on Saturday night.

Elliott Pap: The NHL on Tortorella: “His actions were both dangerous and an embarrassment to the League.”

Elliott Pap: Tortorella can return on Feb. 3rd against the Red Wings.

Wes Gilbertson: Colin Campbell on Hartley: “We are holding Mr. Hartley responsible for the actions of Flames’ right wing Kevin Westgarth, who took the game’s opening face-off and attempted to instigate a premeditated fight with an unwilling opponent.”

Do you agree with the NHL’s ruling for Tortorella and for Hartley?

I think the league’s ruling was more than fair. I was surprised the refs dropped the puck.

can anyone answer the question, Why did the flames do this?

From what I’ve read, they did it in 2004 to the preds in nashville and beat up some skilled players.

i don’t like torts but what do people expect him to do? and the locker room thing, who cares. i’m just so confused as to what the flames were doing here. i guess they suck that bad that it could have been a strategy. haha. exciting, but embarrassing.

hell. just a fine for the flames who actully intended for this to happen? no thats bs. they both deserve suspensions. as poorly as torts reflected on the leauge hartley was nearly as bad by sending his guys out with the intention of starting a brawl like that.

Torts was suspended for the dressing room charge. That is seriously bush league. If it were just a brawl then the NHL would tut-tut hand out a fine and move on.

Another suspension based on public reaction. More embarrassing to the NHL are bettman and shanahan.

So now a coach can’t put any players he wants on the ice?

Disagree. A two game suspension was appropriate. I really hate the fine on Hartley. Fining coaches for who they put on the ice is beyond absurd.

All the fans were standing and cheering. The only ones sitting were the anti-hockey people sitting in the press box stuffing their faces on the free buffet.
