VIDEO: SportsNet HC Trade Tracker: Sabres Ryan Miller II

Hockey Central panel discusses whether the Buffalo Sabres will trade Ryan Miller. The 33-year old is a pending UFA and carries a $6.25 million salary and salary cap hit.

Gord Stellick thinks possible destinations are the Blues, Wild and Ducks.

Who do you think should trade for Miller, and at what cost?

If buffelo is looking at trading Miller. That’s if they want trade him, if smart they should, let bidding start till deadline. Get as much you can for the re-building. A mid 20 player from roster n A or B prospect

@Alphonse: But who needs a rental that is going for it? Pittsburgh might be interested because MAF hasn’t been good since they won the cup (and some Penguin fans say even then they won in spite of him) and Vokoun may or may not come back fully from his hip infection. I’m not sure that the Blues will give up on Halak and the Ducks seem comfortable with Miller. Either of those entering the bidding immediately frees another goalie for the others …

On an unrelated note. How many weeks of build up for the trade deadline this year? 5? 6? I know Canadian sports channels have all day trade deadline telecasts and want to drum up excitement but it really has become a non-event for most teams. The Iginla thing last year was interesting, but there is no way I’d take a day off to watch nothing happen for 7 hours to get 10 minutes of excitement. I don’t even watch these videos, I only check the comments on them because there are a lot of interesting regulars around this site.

The one thing that could be said about most the playoff teams is that they have quality goaltending. Every team in the West in a playoff spot has either an elite ‘tender or a great duo. Pits, despite the struggles by MAF, are still the top team in the East. No use in breaking up what works or trading anything away.

And the rest in the East in playoff spots, it’s the same. Not worth giving up what they got, save maybe Philly. I’d like to see Miller go to either the Caps or Isles. Though I’m not sure there is a whole lot of return from those teams, at least not willing return.

@Gary I agree, Miller would be insurance and strictly futures. I don’t think the return will be spectacular… As for the Isles and Caps my money is on trying in free agency. Miller, Hiller and Halak are all UFA this off season if I remember correctly. Probably others…

caps and islanders? islanders will be selling vanek and mcdonald, not buying a rental goalie. caps problem is too much goaltending and not enough defense. it would take no playoff hopes and holtby and/or grubuauer traded (hopefully for some defense!). so very unlikely. can’t even imagine the sabe doing grubuauer johansson and picks, or anything else for that matter.

caps are doomed, they suck. erat thinks someone actually will want to trade for his 4.5m contract. haha.

I know that the Caps problems are more defense than goalie, but Miller is a vast improvement even over the Holtby we seen emerge last year. But Holtby isn’t playing like that this year. He is below Miller (who, btw, plays for Buffalo, in case you didn’t know) in GAA and SV%.

And the Isles. You just said it, McDonald is a UFA. Miller is a UFA. If the Isles want to be serious contenders they need a #1 goalie. Poulion and Nabokov won’t cut it. Poulion has a GAA above 3 and a .891 SV%. Obviously McDonald won’t do it by himself, but there is something to be worked on

I said “the sabe”. I know that’s not traditionally their nickname, but it shouldn’t be so hard to figure out you have to go out of your way to be a dick.

I don’t get your point with the Isles. Yes, macdonald is a UFA, and one that already rejected $4m for 4 years from the isles. yes, miller is a UFA. that means he isn’t signed beyond this year and is at no obligation to sign with the isles if traded to them. so either you are saying the isles need a #1 goalie for this season (they are sellers because they are not making the playoffs) or picking miller up in FA. which I wasn’t talking about, I was talking about trades. “Trade Tracker Ryan Miller” is what this video we commented on is called.

I agree the islanders need a better goalie.
