Morning Rumors III: Miller, Markov, Brodeur Flames, Callahan, Meszaros, Bruins, Kings, Islanders, Ducks and Leafs
  • Brian Lawton: Hearing that Ryan Miller is not likely going to be traded and will be turning attention to re-signing him. Thought is that a deal with the Sabres is in the Henrik Lundqvist range, and would allow the Sabres to trade him in a better market. Mark Spector: “Educate me here: Why would Ryan Miller sign long-term with BUF so he’ll be easier to trade? If he’s moving, why not just go UFA route?”
  • Jimmy Murphy: Asked Andrei Markov about Tony Marinaro report that the Canadiens offered Markov a one-year, $6 million offer.Markov: “Who said that?”
    Me: There’s a report.”
Markov: “That’s what I asked. Who said that?”
Me: “A local reporter. Tony Marinaro.”
Markov: “Guess he was over there at the meetings?”
  • Rich Chere: Martin Brodeur said that he as not been asked to waive his no-trade clause.
  • Scott Cruinckshank of the Calgary Herald: Mike Cammalleri could help a team looking for scoring. A team like the Capitals should have some interest in stay-at-home defenseman Ladislav Smid. The Flames would like to move Shane O’Brien and his $2 million salary cap hit that extends to into next season. Being able to trade Dennis Wideman and his $5.125 cap hit (through 2016-17) could help the Flames out. Untouchable Flames appear to be: Mark Giordano, Curtis Glencross, T.J. Brodie, Sven Baertschi, Matt Stajan, Mikael Backlund, Sean Monahan, Emile Poirier and Morgan Klimchuk.
  • The Fourth Period: Flames GM Brian Burke on the Fan 960.

“We’ve offered him an extension,” said Burke, who met with Cammalleri and his agent Ian Pulver. “We have not gotten a deal done. We will continue to talk and a trade is a possibility, no question about that, but re-signing him is a possibility too. We’ll see.”

Cammalleri has a limited no-trade clause. The Canucks, Devils, Senators and Coyotes are believed to be interested. The Lightning and Blue Jackets could be among the teams looking at Lee Stempniak.

  • Nick Kypreos: The Flames and Mike Cammalleri have discussed contract ideas, but little progress has been made on an extension. More than likely he’ll be traded.
  • Andrew Gross: Rangers Ryan Callahan repeated that he wants to remain with the team to help them win, but added he can only “control what I can control.”
  • Corey Pronman: Darren Dreger said that there is 99 percent chance that Ryan Callahan is traded.
  • David Strehle: Darren Dreger said on NHL Tonight that the Bruins may be interested in defenseman Andrej Meszaros.
  • Hope Smoke: Bob McKenzie: “More than half a dozen teams have inquired about Vanek and he’ll get traded” …  “I think the Isles have received one firm offer on Vanek that they considered but rejected
  • Dennis Bernstein: (responding to question) With the Islanders likely trading Thomas Vanek, it’s likely that they wouldn’t trade Michael Grabner as that would leave them thin on the left wing. They Kings could go for Andrew MacDonald.
  • David Pagnotta: The Kings are looking for a scoring left winger, but GM Dean Lombardi is also looking for a top-four defenseman.
  • David Pagnotta: Think the Kings would like to get Islanders defenseman Andrew MacDonald. On questions regarding Christian Ehrhoff, Pagnotta doesn’t see it at all.
  • The Fourth Period: The Islanders and Andrew MacDonald remain far apart on a contract extension and it appears they will look to trade him. Interested teams include the Bruins, Kings, Avalanche, Ducks and Red Wings. MacDonald is thought to be looking for a five year deal at around $5 million per season. It is unclear what the Islanders are hoping to get in return, but high pick and young defenseman might work.
  • Nick Kypreos: Maple Leafs Dave Bolland is looking for a seven or eight year contract that could be in the $40 million range.
