VIDEO: SportsNet HC Trade Tracker: Oilers Sam Gagner

Hockey Central panel discusses whether the Edmonton Oilers will trade Sam Gagner. The 24-year will carry a $4.8 million salary cap hit through 2015-16.

Doug MacLean thinks it’s time for him to move on. Is he a No. 2 or No. 3 center?

MacLean thinks possible destinations are the Kings, Predators and Devils. Scott Morrison thinks possible destinations are the Kings and Predators.

Who do you think should go after Gagner, and what should they give up for him?

How about we go big… Gagner, Yakupov, 1st round pick, and whatever else for Shea Weber.

Gagner, to LA straight up for young d. Voynov

Alphonse, why would LA give up a top 3 d man on a contender for a 3rd line center on a bad team? If you want Voynov the deal starts with Eberle. Voynov is a great young d man; you need to give up a great young player to get him and not a small below average overpaid player.

Matt, if you want Weber the deal starts with Taylor Hall. No way Nashville gives up one of the best players in the nhl for S Gagner, Nail Yakupov and a draft pick. You need to give to get. It would likely cost Hall, a top prospect like Nurse and a draft wpick and that would be a bargain.

Remember the Preds could have had five 1st round picks from Philly but matched their offer sheet.

I’mSteve, exactly the kind of deal that will likely happen; a bad contract for a bad contract with draft picks thrown in. In that case I bet Edmonton is the team that throws in the pick as I think Havlat is of the books this year while the Sharks would be stuck with Gagner for 2 more.

I think a deal like Gagner for Ville Leino would be the only deal that could benefit the Oilers; the Leino deal is so bad that the Sabres would, and easily could, add a good prospect or 1st rounder to the mix.

Gagner to stay in Edmonton, he is over payed, but he is still young, and will be a solid number 2 center as he matures, they would have to make a bad deal to move him that will not help the club long term and there far from contenders at the moment, and have no cap issues, if there going to make a move it should be Ales Hemsky and/or Nick Schultz there the only 2 that would bring any positive return to the club.

Nashville won’t get hall and l.a can keep voynov if they think he’s worth ebs. He’s worth Gags and a prospect nothing more . Gags is a number 2 and will grow to fill that role, he’s 24 . Lol a top line right wing for a top 6 D-man nah. And the last time I checked the oil need a big defence men not another little guy. A guy like victor headmen or tyler Myers , which I’d be more then happy .to give ebs. I’d give less for Myers tho. Weber stays in Nashville . His contracts ridiculous , it’ll be a huge problem in the future . They’ll be paying him till he’s 41 years old. They have jones, josi, Ellis ,a number of good d prospects and then they get nurse and most likely Ekblad , and hall lol for weber . No thank you , the deal might look good for Nashville fans but not Edmonton. Dream on with that trade happening buddy . You undervalue everyone in the oiler system just because where they are in the standings, but I get that.

matthew he wasnt suggesting that deal
he was just pointing out how ridiculous
yours was and a ball park of what
it would realistically take to get them

you over value gagner .. he had his chance to shine
on one of the shittiest teams in the past 5 years
and has barely done that .

the thing is a top d like voynov does start with
a big name trade and that aint gagner
he is about as appealing as bourque
,cammelleri , or briere … if that and their
all over payed with little return ..

if you want voynov i think you gotta be real
nurse would have to go along with gagner at bare minimum .

gagner is on a downslide but at best will
only be a 40 point scorer
where as voynov has potential to improve
significantly and is top 2 d in l.a

so how in your right mind do you think top 2 d are only worth a shitty 3rd liner?

i deem chris the winner of this round

lol @ wildbill first off gags is a second liner on a basement team not a “shitty third liner”
secondly nothing about that deal would make any sense, Edmonton does not need another young small offensive defensemen, and voynov has the luxury of playing in a great defensive system in front of a premier goalie with one of the top d men in the league you are over valuing him as well. not that I think it would be fair on a straight trade by any stretch, but again it would be a piss poor move on edmontons behalf

Wild Bill really dude? On the oilers voynov is a better version of Filip Larson. Just another small defence men they don’t need . Why would they give l.a our future top 2! 6’4 Darnell nurse for voynov .. Are you dumb. That would never happen . Oil don’t want nothing to do with another small defence men and they wouldn’t give big Darnell nurse away for voynov lol even if it was a straight up deal one for one! XD lmfao
