NHL Rumors II: Goalie Market, Subban and Cammalleri
  • Jeff Gordon of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch: The Capitals appear to be ready to go with Braden Holtby and Philipp Grubauer between the pipes next year.

Evgeni Nabokov could return to the Islanders in a backup role. Anders Nilsson appears to be heading back to Europe.

Jake Allen will be up with the Blues next season. The Blues could still look to re-sign Ryan Miller to a short-term deal. They could bring back pending UFA Brian Elliott if they don’t re-sign Miller.

The Leafs will have to decide if they give James Reimer a qualifying offer. They may end up getting stuck with an unhappy player if they are not able to trade him.

The Ducks could let Jonas Hiller walk and go with Frederik Andersen and John Gibson next season.

Hurricanes GM Ron Francis will likely dangle Cam Ward to see if there are any takers. Ward has two years and $13.5 million left on his deal. They could buy out Ward.

Will Martin Brodeur find a team that wants him to be their starter?

Will the Sharks go after Ryan Miller or are they fine with Antti Niemi and Alex Stalock next year? Stalock is eager to re-sign with the Sharks.

Flames GM Brad Treliving doesn’t think they’ll be looking for a No. 1 goalie this offseason.

The Wild will have lots to consider this offseason. Will Niklas Backstrom get healthy and bounce back? Backstrom has three years left with a limited no-trade clause. Will Josh Harding be able to manage his MS and be able to play again? Ilya Bryzgalov is a pending UFA. Darcy Kuemper is a pending RFA.

  • Hope Smoke: Darren Dreger: “I think the negotiations for PK start at $8 million this summer” … “Will be a curious signing. PK has options. Maybe he’s not convinced the Habs are the team for him. He can look for shorter term”
  • Hope Smoke: Doug MacLean: “PK’s contract is going to be a real tough one for Bergevin. He was the difference maker last night” … “Subban is the most popular player on the team, along with Price, he’s one of the top 6-7 D in the league” … “I’m saying Subban is going to get $7.5. If you really work him you might get him for $7. Meehan is licking his lips on this one” … “Habs still have some questions & concerns on PK. Does so many things the fans like but does things that make coaches & GMs crazy”
  • Chris Nichols: Flames GM Brad Treliving on Sportsnet 960, talking about pending UFA Mike Cammalleri.

“I had a short conversation with Mike when I was here last week. It was real good. Mike came up, we visited for a little bit. I told him let me figure out where the bathroom is and not get lost in the office for a couple of days and I’ll get back to him and just sort of get a sense of where he’s at. As you guys know, he’s at the stage based upon where he’s at in his contract and the rights in the CBA where he can become an unrestricted free agent July 1 and see what the market is and see what his thought is and see what people think about him around the league. So as Brian said, we made him an offer. We want him to be a Flame. I plan on following up in the next few days with Mike and his representative and just get a little better sense of where they’re at, where the process is at. Like I said, probably another week or so I’d have a better answer to that question.”
