NHL GIF: Crosby With A Little Spear And A Slew Foot

Should the NHL look into fining/disciplining Sidney Crosby for a couple of questionable incidents last night?

I would hardly call this a spear, but the assault on genitals... on Twitpic

Crosby slew foot on Girardi. on Twitpic

Not shocked at all. And he’ll never suffer any discipline for these types of things. The NHL would rather sell him as a golden boy.

Did Lundqvist get anything for spraying water on him though? Thats the real question…

I’m pretty disappointed in Sid. He’s such a loser with these antics and to think I’ve been cheering him on for all these years. They should suspend him. What’s worse is guys will want to hunt him down after this. Why not just play hockey at a higher level than everyone else like you’re capable of? What is all this spearing and slue foot business?

Should he be? Yes, Will he be? Not a chance. These are not new antics, That is text book Crosby, Was in minor hockey, junior, now pro. but he is “the golden boy of hockey” for some reason.

Sure, but much like Staal’s blatant head shots earlier in the series the league will do nothing. I did miss the gifs illustrating Staal’s play and asking about discipline for him though.

Sidney is such a sore loser punk. Idiots like Kunitz whos career is depending on Crosby staying healthy have to stop fighting, or attempting , to fight his battles for him.

i’d agree that its not ‘sportsmanlike’… and i don’t like to see the spear tactic used myself… but, there is a hole slew of hall of famers, all stars, etc, who have done this on occasion… calling Sid a loser, sissy, rat, etc, is a little overboard… dirty plays are a part of the game, especially come playoff time… it’s a dirty play, but its not on the level of something like Bertuzzi on Moore, or things like that..

Not really seeing a spear so much as a guy trying to get his stick free. Moore definitely had a glove on his stick and tried to tie it up. The slew foot is another story. Definitely leg on leg contact, but this kind of contact happens more frequently than people realize. Also, not a traditional slew foot in the sense that the contact was only low and there wasn’t any high contact to make this more explosive. Neither really that bad. However, I’m waiting to see how much Lundqvist gets fined for the water bottle spray as they’ve already set a playoff precedent with this type of incident.

Funny to see Crosby before the game share some words with St Louis about his mother, then come and do stuff like this. Though I’ll admit that Crosby hasn’t been as bad as he was 4-5 years ago. But still not the golden child everyone would like to think

this is about crosby and the crosby-izing glasses the refs wear-issued by the nhl-so that they can’t see his dirty play. and it is dirty. start another thread to talk about somebody else. the “world’s best” shouldn’t be able to hide from his potentially injuring actions on others. suspend him.

Don’t these rules apply to him?

52.1 Slew-footing – Slew-footing is the act of a player or goalkeeper using his leg or foot to knock or kick an opponent’s feet from under him, or pushes an opponent’s upper body backward with an arm or elbow, and at the same time with a forward motion of his leg, knocks or kicks the opponent’s feet from under him, causing him to fall violently to the ice.

52.2 Match Penalty – Any player who is guilty of slew-footing shall be assessed a match penalty.

52.3 Fines and Suspensions – There are no specified fines or suspensions for slew-footing, however, supplementary discipline can be applied by the Commissioner at his discretion (refer to Rule 28).

crosby is a douche, but girardi obviously flopped on that slew foot. crosby clearly gave a nut shot to the ranger, but Lucic got only a $5k fine for a completely unprovoked, premeditated and brutal nut shot on dekeyser. so i wouldn’t expect anything out of this. not to mention the ranger was holding crosby’s stick, which is also a penalty.

THERE WAS NO SPEAR! He gave a nut shot, yes, should possibly get fined. BUT there was no spear. To call it that is simply inflammatory or uneducated which is what I expect from CBSsports RE:hockey where i first saw this story

    Rule 62 – Spearing
62.1 Spearing – Spearing shall mean stabbing an opponent with the point of the stick blade, whether contact is made or not.

The ‘up nutter’ has been called a ‘spear’ for a while, I guess due to upward stabbing of an opponent.

I agree that calling it spearing doesn’t really suit the action, but I don’t think the NHL has given it an actual name.

when you use the tip of your blade to nut shot some one it IS a spear, by definition
    Rule 62 – Spearing
62.1 Spearing – Spearing shall mean stabbing an opponent with the point of the stick blade, whether contact is made or not.
this does not mean it has to be a stabbing OUT motion, it includes the swing UP stabbing with the tip of the blade to the nuts aswell,
