  • Sarah McLellan: Coyotes goaltender Mike Smith was medically cleared last week from his MCL sprain. Maloney: “He’s 100 percent and feels great.”
  • Shelly Anderson: Penguins prospect Derrick Pouliot had shoulder surgery and is out four to six months.
  • Bob McKenzie: Penguins Olli Maatta will have shoulder surgery today.
  • Louis Jean: The Canadiens put goaltender Robert Mayer on unconditional waivers at his request. He’ll resume his playing career in Switzerland if he goes unclaimed.

    If you were an NHL owner, you would not want Bettman as you commissioner? Please explain.

    3 lockouts in 2 decades, wouldn’t exactly call him a labour relations expert. never said nhl owners wouldnt be happy, but as an executive i dont agree with many of his decisions, including the way he handled the phoenix situation, jim balsillie, or boots del biaggio. also, his reluctance to add more teams to canada is financially hurting the gms, as there would be more revenue sharing funds available.
