NHL Rumors IV: Penguins GM Search … Pens and Jackets Coaching Situation

  • TSN: Pierre LeBrun reported that the Penguins have reached out Jim Rutherford about the possibility of joining the organization. Julien BriseBois is also a top candidate.
  • Luke DeCock: Rutherford would be a good short-term fit for the Penguins. He would have been good fit with the Capitals as well.
  • Chip Alexander: When asked about the Penguins GM position and if there was any interest, Rutherford said he’s under contract with the Hurricanes and wouldn’t be commenting on it.
  • Dave Molinari: The Penguins have interviewed at least four candidates, with Pierre McGuire being the only one to openly discuss his candidacy.
  • Jimmy Murphy: If the Penguins name Pierre McGuire as their GM, Murphy speculates that Ulf Samuelsson and Rick Tocchet could become coaching candidates.
  • Aaron Portzline: Blues Jackets assistant coach Dan Hinote is leaving the Blue Jackets for “private family issues.” The Blue Jackets had been working on contract extensions for all of their coaching staff, now have one or two openings.
