Morning Hits: Panthers, Leafs, Nicholson, Draft, Couturier and 2014-15 Schedule
  • Darren Dreger: Panthers GM Dale Tallon confirmed that the five finalists for the coaching vacancy are Dan Bylsma, Ron Wilson, Gerard Gallant, Marc Crawford and Bill Peters. Harvey Fialkov: Have been told that the Panthers will hire a new coach on Monday.
  • Jonas Siegel: Maple Leafs GM Dave Nonis hopes to round out his coaching staff soon, but there is no timeline. Nonis wouldn’t say how many people were or will be interviewed.
  • Ken Campbell: Bob Nicholson has CEO offers from the Capitals, Oilers and Canucks. The Capitals are offering the most money.
  • Pierre LeBrun: Sabres GM Tim Murray said they have agreed to change the draft lottery, but it won’t happen next year. LeBrun adds that no decision has been made on the lottery or when it will change. There is still not enough agreement between the GMs to change the lottery.
  • John Shannon: The GMs supported the recommendations from the Competition Committee for face-off changes, OT changes and more diligence on embellishment.
  • David Strehle: Flyers GM Ron Hextall: Sean Couturier had successful abdominal surgery this past Friday. “He (Couturier) has started rehab at our training facility & should be fully recovered in 5-6 weeks.” Tim Panaccio: Couturier’s injury was not on the list they released after the season.
  • John Shannon: Sounding like the NHL could release the 2014-15 schedule on Sunday, June 22nd.
