NHL Rumors I: Letang, E. Kane, Lightning, Gunnarson and Prosser

  • Elizabeth Rancourt of TVA Sports: (s/t – L.A. Lariviere and Google translate) Kris Letang was asked by Penguins GM Jim Rutherford last month to submit a list of 15 teams that he’d accept a trade too. Letang said that the Canadiens were one team on his list.
  • Steve Simmons of the Toronto Sun: Simmons thinks that if anyone was the Jets GM other than the “just-happy-to-be-there” Kevin Cheveldayoff, Evander Kane would have been traded by this point.

Lightning GM Steve Yzerman has been one of the busiest GMs this offseason, and was close on a several big trades that didn’t get done.

The Blues view Carl Gunnarson as a top-four defenseman. They didn’t view Roman Polak as a top-four defenseman.

  • Chad Graff of the Pioneer Press: The Wild and free agent defenseman Nate Prosser are still talking.

“They’re still talking,” Prosser said regarding his agent and the Wild. “We’re waiting to see what (Wild GM) Chuck (Fletcher) has to say.

“It’s a waiting game, and we’re kind of waiting on a few teams to step up.”

If Gunner is seen as a top 4 by the Blues and Polak not, why did Nonis add a pick and take back $200K in the trade. Burke would never have been that easy to fleece. The Leafs need to take a serious look at their Management as these types of deals are very questionable not to mention keeping the main reason that the Leafs tanked (Randy Carlysle) still in charge.

Wait, Kris Letang was asked to submit a trade list? And the Canadiens were on that list? Wow.

Well, he is from Montreal, and played junior in the Q. This mentions Rutherford asked for a 15 team trade list, capgeek notes that he can submit a 12 team no-trade list prior to each season. Either way, I don’t think its far fetched that Montreal would be one of the 15-18 teams he’d accept a trade to, if it comes to that.

Kane isn’t going anywhere or my season tickets will go back, if you ever watched the kid play he hammers, scores fights sticks up for his tea mates and plays 200 foot game, the Jets and Chevy would both lose their minds trading this guy. blazing wheels

Where does Steve Simmons get off? Happy to be there? Chevy is building a team through the draft that will be successful for years to come and that takes time. Giving in to a punk like Kane and losing a traded is what quickly makes you an ex nhl gm!!

St. Louis’s starting 7 defensemen next year:
    Alex Pietrangelo
    Jay Bowmeester
    Kevin Shattenkirk
    Barrett Jackman
    Carl Gunnarson
    Ian Cold
    Jordan Leopold

In what world does Gunnarson crack the top 4 in that group? Either way Polak will play a #4 role that Gunnarson should have been playing all along. In any case, Robidas is better than both Gunnarson and Polak. Anyone who watched him play last year knows this. He’s legit.

Steve Simmons is the biggest fraud in hockey journalism. No doubt he’s happy where he is but god only knows why he’s there. I hope some day I have the qualifications to spew verbal diarrhea like he does.

@Chris – Everything I’ve read suggests that the primary defensive pairings next year for the Blues are going to be:

Chico—The reason St.Louis fleeced the Leafs is because Nonis was the right hand man to the Leafs worst GM in history (Brian Burke) and is not good at his job and needs to be fired.
Nick—Letang’s contract is untradeable, not that he is not a good player but his heart conditiona and health unfortunately makes him a health ris and no teams will want that contract.

I agree Steve Simmonds is an idiot. It was funny when the UFC was here and Dana White had a press conference and called him out loooking for him in the crowd and Simmonds was no where to be found. Dana White then went through Simmonds whole article and ripped it apart explaining how facts and fiction work. Pretty good on Danas behalf

Simmons is a goof yes. He seems to be a stand in when everyones on assignment or vacation. Idk why Carlyle is back but one thing appears certain the Leafs r not a desirable destination. Lousy drafting lousy defensive hockey n lousy contracts such as Clarkson. Add it all up n miss the playoffs in the easier conference. In the cap world it takes skill n quality from Mngmt on down n its simply not there.
Look no further than my Canucks who cleaned house n a fresh start. GM MG inherited a roster & possible contender n proved incapable of getting results. Sayonara n don’t expect to see him employed anytime soon.
