NHL Rumors II: Senators – Anderson, Ryan, MacArthur and Methot
  •  Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun: The Senators confirmed that they have had talks with Craig Anderson about an extension. He’s entering the final year of his deal and they’d like to retain him, even with the re-signing of Robin Lehner to a three-year deal.

“I did talk to (Duberman) a few weeks back and said we’d like to get Robin Lehner done first and then we could talk about an extension,” said Dorion.

  • Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun: The Senators have also spoken with Newport Sports about Bobby Ryan and Clarke MacArthur.

“We had really productive talks on Clarke MacArthur and Bobby Ryan. As you guys know these deals don’t get done in a day, Bryan had preliminary talks with the agents beforehand and (Wednesday) I’d call it productive talks on both sides of things,” said assistant GM Pierre Dorion.”

“I’d like to get these deals done yesterday and I’d like them done July 1 at 12:01 pm but they take a little while. They’re guys that are both going to be pending UFAs so you have to make sure it works well for both parties.”

The Senators also want to re-sign defenseman Marc Methot before he becomes a UFA next summer.

“I think Marc has said it, Marc wants to be here and we want to keep Marc as part of our core of veterans,” said Dorion. “We feel that Marc has been a valuable player for us for the past two seasons and it’s just finding a way where we can make it work for them and for us and trying to stay fair and within our budgets.”
