NHL Rumors II: Wild, Sens, Hawks, Caps, Selanne and Pens

  • Craig Custance of ESPN: (mailbag) The health of Niklas Backstrom and Josh Harding may leave Darcy Kuemper as their number one. A bit of risk, but carried the team for stretches last season.

Custance thinks the Senators waited too long to trade Jason Spezza. Moving him at the deadline would have been the best.

Custance thinks the Blackhawks would like to move Kris Versteeg to gain some cap space, but that isn’t easy. Nick Leddy could be an option, he has value and will be getting expensive to keep.  They could move him for the right price.

If the Senators aren’t able to lock up Bobby Ryan and are out of the playoff race, Ryan could be one of the better players that could be available at the trade deadline.

There is no urgency for the Capitals to trade defenseman Mike Green. If they are offered the right deal for him though, they should act on it. The Red Wings are a natural fit and have the assets to make it happen.

  • Juha Hiitela: Sources saying that Jokerit (Finnish team in the KHL) have offered Teemu Selanne $10 million US to play next season. Have had also offered him $5 million just to play home games.
  • Will DePaoli of Inside Pittsburgh Sports: DePaoli thinks that Brandon Sutter’s best value to the Penguins could be as a trade chip. DePaoli adds that the Penguins may have made a mistake last July when they pulled a verbal offer to Clarke MacArthur off the table once they signed Rob Scuderi.
  • Adam Vingan: Contract between the Capitals and RFA defenseman Cam Schilling are ongoing, “nothing is imminent,” according to his agent.

Jokerit is part of SM-Liiga, not KHL (I believe). Great news for video gamers, as EA sports has rights to this league, meaning that if Selanne signs there then he will still be in NHL 15

Not anymore. 2014-15 will be the first for Jokerit in the KHL. Probably never would have happened if a Russian billionaire didn’t buy the team’s arena and a 49% stake in the team.

I don’t know what Bowman has planned, but I’d be surprised to see Leddy go. Versteeg had a horrible year and I doubt Bowman can get Talon to take him back.

It’s going to be interesting. Let’s hope Stanbo can get creative.

Wings are a perfect fit for green… Yup, he’s old and injury prone, which is what the wings have been into lately. There’s gonna be uproar if he costs Gus tats jurco pulk manth or Shea. Now if we can convince em to take Abbie Franzen kindl lash miller or some combo of that, different story…

Chicago should try Oduya to Carolina (needs D and have cap space) for 2nd and 4th picks (close to what they gave for him). Clendening, Rundblad, and Dahlbeck are capable 6th D-men. Leddy could move up with Hjalmarsson and have a chance to reach his potential.

@Hankbemis Yeah Mike green is 28 years old he wont be 29 until Oct 12th Yeah that’s pretty old. Though I do agree with the injury prone part. But to say he’s old is over stating it a bit.

So…….really nothing new with that Custance piece. And more than likely, nothing imminent. It’s a Q&A he recently did with fans. It’s more his personal opinions than actual rumours. Granted, alot of it is based on stuff that has been tossed around for awhile now, but nothing that hasn’t been talked about to death.
