Rumors I: Coyotes and Hurricanes, Las Vegas Relocation Candidates?

Hurricanes_7869675
  • Luke DeCock: “Don’t work yourself up over” Dan Patrick’s speculation about the Hurricanes moving to Las Vegas.
  • Luke DeCock of the Raleigh News & Observer: Hurricanes Peter Karmanos is looking to sell chucks of the team to local investors, but he’s been more involved with the team and not less even as he searches for investors. The Hurricanes arena lease gives them the incentive to remain as they control the arena. Relocating to Vegas and not through expansion would cost the owners money.
  • Dan Patrick: From a financial source, it’s a done deal and there will be a team in Las Vegas by 2016. Question being, will it be an expansion team or by relocation. Patrick then says that two relocation candidates are the Coyotes (there is a clause in their deal that the NHL can step in if they are losing “x” amount of money) and the Hurricanes. Owner Peter Karmanos is reportedly asking for an exorbitant amount of money for the team.  The owners would prefer a expansion as they would get more money.

@E – I can’t re-create your issue and it loads relatively quick for me. Anyone else? Want to fix any issue if I can.

Are you connected to wifi, 3G, 4G? What device are you running?

The only place the Hurricanes should move is back to Hartford

I’m not sure about relocating Carolina. Just because Karmanos is looking for investors doesn’t mean he wants to move the team. It seems they just want to get to 32 teams anyway possible to have four divisions of 8. They need two expansion teams out West, not a relocation from East to West.

If I were involved in the NHL Expansion/Relocation it would make more sense to move the two Florida teams into the Northeast. Move one into Quebec City and the other into Hamilton/Toronto to join the Atlantic Division (Boston, Buffalo, Detroit, Montreal, Ottawa, Quebec, Toronto and Hamilton/Toronto). The Metro can remain the same (Carolina, Columbus, Jersey, New York R, New York I, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and Washington).

You now need expansion teams out West, one in each division. Seattle and Las Vegas are rumored names. You have two scenarios:

    1. Pick one location and move them into the Pacific division and find another location (Kansas City) for the Central.
    2. Pick both Seattle and Las Vegas or even Salt Lake City and move a team like Phoenix to the Central division.

Even better: drop the total teams down to 28. Seven (7) each division and spread the players from two teams out across the league. More teams = a watered-down product.
