Quick Hits: Leafs, Carter, Alfie, PTOs, Robidas and Maatta
  • Steve Simmons of the Toronto Sun: Simmons thinks that Randy Carlyle has about a 40 game window to improve the Leafs or he could be out of job, regardless of the extension. David Clarkson will get a shot to be on the Leafs second line, if he doesn’t make it, he’ll be battling for ice-time in the bottom-six. There appears to be 10 players fighting for spots on the Leafs third and fourth lines.
  • Tom Gulitti: Ryan Carter will likely attend Devils training camp, likely without a contract. Since he doesn’t have a contract with the Devils, if he gets offered a deal by someone else, he could move on.
  • Chris Johnston: Sense from players who know Daniel Alfredsson well is that he isn’t sure if his health will allow him to keep playing.
  • Bob Stauffer: Sounding like the Oilers won’t be inviting anyone to training camp on a tryout.
  • Renaud Lavoie: Feeling that Francis Bouillon will get a tryout for training camp, with Montreal being an option.
  • Joe Smith: Leland Irving will be the only player attending the Lightning’s camp on a tryout according to GM Steve Yzerman.
  • Matt Brown: Maple Leafs defenseman Stephane Robidas said on Monday that he hasn’t been cleared for contract and is hoping to be able to get into their final two exhibition games.
  • Josh Yohe: Penguins Olli Maatta is still not able to take contact yet, but appears to be ahead of schedule.
  • Marc Antoine Godin: Pat LaFontaine’s name has come up in the Department of Players Safety as a potential replacement for Brian Leetch.
