The Arizona Coyotes will be in tough to get into the playoff this season. The Pacific, and Western Conference is filled with teams that have more firepower than the Coyotes.

For the second year in a row, the Arizona Coyotes fell short of making the Stanley Cup Playoffs finishing with a 37-30-15 record in a tough Pacific Division.

The Coyotes were only two points behind the Dallas Stars for the final wild-card in the Western Conference.

For most of the season, Coyotes fans saw a lot of potential for a Playoff berth, but with a late season collapse, playoff hopes quickly crumbled.

General Manager Don Maloney has made some minor tweaks to the team this summer, in hopes of fixing the issues that went wrong in 2013-14. But with losing key scorers to free agency, Maloney failed to replace them.

2014-15 Team Outlook:

The Coyotes lost Vrbata to free agency, and bought-out Ribeiro due to behavioural issues, but they did not find a replacement.  Getting back into the playoffs is the Coyotes number one goal for the upcoming campaign, but it could be difficult with very little fire power up front.

It looks like the Coyotes have found their number one centerman in Sam Gagner, who was acquired in a trade in the off-season from the Tampa Bay Lightning. One would think Gagner would tally more than 45 points this season on the first line.

The depth on defence is pretty good. Keith Yandle and Oliver Ekman-Larsson will once again lead the charge for the Coyotes, while Zbynek, Michalek, David Schlemko, Michael Stone, Brandon Gormley and Connor Murphy are the supporting cast.

Mike Smith has to be healthy this season, there is no question. Late last season, Smith suffered a lower-body injury missing a chunk of games, which then later saw the Coyotes fall apart. For the Coyotes to at least have a shot at the playoffs they need a healthy Smith.

The Coyotes also have Dubnyk in goal, but I don’t expect him to play much. Smith will be your guy in net!

I don’t think the Coyotes are going to be bad, but I don’t think they’re going to be good enough to make the playoffs in a division that is led by the Los Angeles Kings, Anaheim Ducks and San Jose Sharks.
