  • Darren Dreger of TSN: Senators Marc Methot is getting close to returning to the lineup, but there has been no progress on his contract negotiations. There have been no talks in the past three weeks, which will continue to add to trade speculation. The Ducks, Red Wings, Panthers and Oilers are thought to be among the teams interested.GM meeting are next week in Toronto. The agenda is being guarded, but they will likely be heavily discussing overtime. The AHLs use of of 3-on-3 has been positive. Some executives think the shootout is losing its novelty. A decision on it won’t come next week.
  • Craig Morgan: The Coyotes put defenseman David Schlemko on waivers. They had been trying to trade him since before they called up Brandon Gormley.
  • Alessandro Seren Rosso of the Hockey Writers: (translating Rangers prospect Pavel Buchnevich interview with Sport-Express) On if Buchnevich see himself playing in the NHL soon.

I haven’t taken any decision right now, and I’m yet to get any offer from Severstal, the Rangers or any other team. It’s early, the season is still young. When it will be time to take a decision, I’ll discuss with my parents and my agent. Right now there is nothing to talk about.

  • David Pagnotta: Good deal between the NHL and Honda. Rebook’s jersey deal is up at the end of the season. Nike and Under Armour will bid on it. Under Armour will likely make a big push, but Reebok will want to retain it. Nike is undecided at the moment if they will make a big bid.
  • Nichols on Hockey: Elliotte Friedman on SportsNet 960 on the goalie market.

“I think one of things you’re going to start seeing in the next couple of weeks though guys – I think you’re going to start seeing some teams that are maybe unsure of their future goaltending start to look and see what’s going on here.

“I think Anaheim had decided that – Bob Murray told me he’ll try to get through this stretch with Andersen and Labarbera, but I think Edmonton down the road from you, I think – I wondered if they might look to Bryzgalov again, since he was in a camp. I was told no. But they’re looking now.

“I think the other team that’s going to be a little interesting, and they’ve been rumoured to do a bunch of things, is Buffalo. They’ve got two guys, Enroth and Neuvirth, who are free agents at the end of the year, and I don’t think they view either of them as their long-term guys.”

Friedman on 630 CHED on Martin Brodeur.

“Yes, Martin Brodeur does want to play. But I think he’s got a select group of areas that he’d like to play in. I think one of the ones he’s probably looking at a lot is Anaheim, depending on what they decide to do with their goalies. Then there’s obviously a connection there with Scott Niedermayer.

“As for post-career, I think he knows that he’s got a job with the New Jersey Devils. I think it’s just probably just a matter of time until he decides he wants to take it.”

  • Sportsnet panel discussing: Daniel Alfredsson, diving, if the NHL will go to the Olympics. Nick Kypreos said that Panthers defenseman Brian Campbell could be available and the Red Wings have some interest. The Wings would like to move Jakub Kindl but the Panthers are holding out for a good prospect like Xavier Ouellet or Nick Jensen, which isn’t going to happen.
