Injuries: Pens, Blues, Lightning, Ducks, Isles, Canadiens and more …
  • Dave Molinari of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: Penguins Sidney Crosby and Beau Bennett have already been diagnosed with the mumps, now Marc-Andre Fleury, Robert Bortuzzo and Olli Maatta are being tested as a precaution. The team did say that all players were tested in “early December” for mumps and all came back negative.
  • Jeremy Rutherford of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch: The Blues have put Jaden Schwartz on the IR with a broken foot that he suffered on Tuesday. He blocked a Drew Doughty shot.

“Hopefully he gets better and is ready to go sometime after Christmas,’’ Blues coach Ken Hitchcock said. “We’ll take a look at it on Monday.”

Carl Gunnarsson is traveling with the team, but is not ready to play yet.

  • Andy Strickland: Schwartz is considered week-to-week and once he’s able to deal with the pain, he’ll return to the lineup.
  • Erik Erlendsson of the Tampa Tribune: Lightning’s Ben Bishop hopes to return this weekend.

“I just tweaked something at the (end) of the first,’’ Bishop said. “I just figured there was a minute, 15 (seconds) left so I could just wait until the intermission. Nothing serious and hopefully I can be back by the end of the week. We’ll take it day-by-day.’’

Colorado Avalanche: Avs Brad Stuart is expected to return tonight.

  • Lance Pugmire: Corey Perry has resumed skating back in Anaheim. They won’t rush him, but are pleased with his progress from his sprained knee.
  • Eric Stephens: Ducks Kyle Palmieri is out with a shoulder injury. He’ll be tested again when he returns to Anaheim.
  • Daniel Friedman: Islanders put Michael Grabner on the IR. Griffen Reinhart has been sent to the AHL. Two roster spots are now open for Johnny  Boychuk and Travis Hamonic.
  • Rich Chere: Devils Bryce Salvador (lower-body) is not skating yet, but is making progress.
  • Renaud Lavoie: Canadiens Mike Weaver has been cleared for contact.
  • Jonas Siegel: Maple Leafs Roman Polak could return today. Dion Phaneuf was given a maintenance day yesterday.
  • Josh Yohe: Penguins Chris Kunitz skated yesterday, but hasn’t been cleared for contact yet. He won’t play today, but is getting close.
  • Chad Graff: Wild Josh Harding (AHL) had a dehydration episode on Dec. 6th that sent him to the hospital. He wasn’t resumed skating yet.
