Rumors: Oilers, Bruins, and Canucks
  • Fluto Shinzawa of the Boston Globe: Shinzawa thinks that the Oilers should target Kings backup goalie Martin Jones, but then adds to not expect it to happen.

Either Taylor Hall or Jordan Eberle would look good in a Bruins uniform. Both carry a $6 million salary cap hit and can put the puck in the net, something the Bruins are lacking. Problem for the Bruins is that they don’t have the cap space and tradable assets to land them. The Oilers need a goalie, centers and defensemen. Dougie Hamilton and Carl Soderberg could interest the Oilers. Salaries wouldn’t match for the Bruins and Hamilton is projected to replace Zdeno Chara.Pending RFA Niklas Svedberg could at least double his $600,000 salary on a new deal. Ducks Frederik Andersen’s two-year, $2.3 million contract could be a comparable. The Bruins could look at trading him.

The Canucks could use Jacob Markstrom as a trade chip.

  • Ed Willes of the Vancouver Province: The Canucks at some point need to find out if Zack Kassian is a top-six forward. They currently only have one player in their top-six that is under 31 – Nick Bonino. The thought of trading Kassian should scare Canucks fans. No one knows what he will become, but we know what he could become. You don’t trade players like Kassian unless you are sure of what he is. GM Jim Benning has to get it right.
