Rumors III: Canadiens and Senators
  • The Fourth Period: The Canadiens have been scouting the Coyotes, Oilers and Maple Leafs. The Canadiens are keeping a close eye on the Leafs the past few weeks, as they were interested in Cody Franson. They have had some interest in Antoine Vermette, but they’d prefer a player with term. The Montreal Gazette is reporting the GM Marc Bergevin is under pressure to make a deal and suggests they could target Jordan Eberle. TFP has reported that the Habs have shown interest in both Eberle and Nail Yakupov. Bob McKenzie reported they are dangling Lars Eller and Alexei Emelin in a talent-for-talent trade.
  • Chris Johnston: Canadiens GM Bergevin and Flames assistant GM Brad Pascall scouted the Marlies-Senators AHL game yesterday.
  • Don Brennan of the Ottawa Sun: Senators Erik Condra is a pending UFA and could be the Senators most tradable asset at the deadline. He’s a good skater and can kill penalties.
  • Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun: Senators Craig Anderson was on the ice yesterday, but he’s still not able to hold a stick and take shots on his blocker side. The Senators are among the 10 teams interested in Boston University goalie Matt O’Connor. O’Connor can’t be signed until their season ends sometime next month.
  • Bruce Garrioch: Expect the Senators to play Patrick Wiercioch more leading up to the deadline. The Hurricanes could be a team interested in him.
  • Ian Mendes: After listening to Bryan Murray today … odds of trading Chris Neil before the deadline are slim. Bruce Garrioch: Murray said he’s had lots of calls for Neil: “Everybody wanted to trade him but me.”
  • Wayne Scanlan: Senators GM Bryan Murray said that he may not trade anyone. He usually find a way to surprise at the deadline.
  • Bruce Garrioch: The Senators only option after Robin Lehner’s injury last night and if Craig Anderson isn’t ready, may be to make a trade.
  • Bruce Garrioch: The Blues and Capitals had genuine interest in Marc Methot before he re-signed with the Senators.
