Rumors III: Ryder, Jagr, Boychuk, Daley, Cole, Horcoff and Garbutt
  • Tom Gulitti: Michael Ryder’s agent has spoken with Devils GM Lou Lamoriello about his situation. They haven’t directly asked for a trade. Ryder: “We said whatever is best for both sides. (Lamoriello) knows I want to play and it’s his decision of what he wants to do.”
  • Rich Chere of NJ.com: Devils Jaromir Jagr hasn’t talked to the media that past few days. GM Lou Lamoriello on Jagr and how he’s handling the deadline.

“You’d have to talk to him. He’s been a professional since the first day he came here and he hasn’t handled any situation other than that,” Lamoriello said. “His demeanor and personality, nothing has changed.”

Lamoriello admits it’s not an easy week for players.

“It’s a tough week. It’s a normal week, but it’s a tough week. It’s the same every year no matter what side of the dance you’re on,” Lamoriello said. “We’re dealing with lives. We’re dealing with futures. You can never lose sight of that.

“It’s unfortunate different names appear in different places. I know it’s part of the business but you don’t feel good about it. That’s why we don’t talk about anything.”

Lamoriello on if Michael Ryder or Martin Havlat have asked for a trade.

“I won’t get into any of those discussions,” Lamoriello said.

  • Stephen Lorenzo: Would have to think that Johnny Boychuk will be next on GM Garth Snow’s list. Things have been hush hush on that front.
  • Joe Haggerty: Islanders Boychuk wants a seven or eight year deal. He won’t be going for bigger money for a shorter-term.
  • Daniel Friedman: Boychuk on whether he’ll return to the Islanders next season: “Hopefully”
  • Mike Heika of the Dallas Morning News: (mailbag) The Stars have Trevor Daley on a good contract, so they would have to be blown away to trade him, though the Stars would likely listen. Erik Cole should get them something decent. If the Stars trade for a top-pairing defenseman, would guess that one of their younger defenseman would be heading the other way, possibly Jamie Oleksiak. The Stars are likely willing to listen to offers on a lot of players including Erik Cole, Shawn Horcoff and Ryan Garbutt.
