Rumors: Stewart, Kassian, Zidlicky, Phaneuf, Sharp, Doan and Beleskey
  • Pierre LeBrun: The Wild had held on-off talks with the Sabres about Chris Stewart since the summer. They had always found the prices too high, until yesterday.
  • Pierre LeBrun: Sabres GM Tim Murray had larger deals involving Stewart, but they obviously didn’t work out. Wild called late in the day.
  • Farhan Lalji: Canucks GM Jim Benning said they did contact teams about Zack Kassian, but nothing made sense. They are happy with the way he’s playing now.
  • Rich Chere: Devils GM Lou Lamoriello said that the Devils could have got a better offer for Marek Zidlicky, but Zidlickly had the choice of where he wanted to.
  • Darren Dreger: The Maple Leafs could have traded Dion Phaneuf, but they feel they can get a better deal in the offseason. They had talks with with a couple teams about Joffrey Lupul.
  • Ken Wiebe: Jets GM Kevin Cheveldayoff talked with Michael Frolik’s agent to make it clear that he wouldn’t be traded.
  • Chicago Blackhawks: GM Stan Bowman said they never shopped Patrick Sharp“He’s a big part of the fabric of the team.”
  • Sarah McLellan: Coyotes GM Don Maloney if he anticipated Shane Doan asking him for a trade in the future: “I would never ever respond to that. You’d have to ask him that. He’s a leader and a captain and we want him around. We need good people around, and he’s here and we all have a job to do.”
  • Craig Morgan: Need to remember that Coyotes Martin Erat has a no-movement clause in his contract. Wasn’t moved despite being a UFA at the end of the year.
  • Eric Stephens: Ducks GM Bob Murray received calls on Matt Beleskey and was torn to move him or not: “Right now it was more important to keep Matt and take our chances in the future.”
  • Stephen Whyno: Ducks GM Bob Murray said the asking prices were very high: “Guys were apologizing for asking for certain things.”
