  • Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet: It’s possible that the NHL can inflate the salary cap by five percent even if the NHLPA doesn’t want too. One team executive:

    “Whoever thought we would see the day when the NHL wanted a higher cap and the NHLPA didn’t? What a world.”

    CBA Section 50.5 (b)(i)

    (i) talks about how the amount will be increased each year by five per cent “unless or until either party to this Agreement proposes a different growth factor based on actual revenue experience and/or projections, in which case the parties shall discuss and agree upon a new factor.”

  • Darren Dreger: Salary cap discussion is not on the GMs agenda, but it will be brought up. Nothing has changed and they are projecting upwards to $71 million.
  • Mike Kelly: Players who have scored 45 or more goals in seven or more seasons: Wayne Gretzky, Mike Bossy, Mario Lemieux, Marcel Dionne and Alex Ovechkin.
  • Farhan Lalji: Fighting majors are down 14 percent from the same time last year, 37 percent from 2010-11.
  • Corey Masisak: Only 16 times has a player recorded 20 plus shot attempts in a game since 2005-06: Alex Ovechkin (10), Erik Karlsson (3), Steven Stamkos (1), Tyler Seguin (1) and Evgeni Malkin (1).
  • Ben Kuzma: Canucks have signed college free agent defenseman Ben Hutton to an entry-level deal.
  • Las Vegas has sold over 9,000 season tickets and are now projecting that they could get over 11,000. They are selling 125 and 180 tickets per day during the week.8 News NOW
