News: Blackhawks Sign Brent Seabrook To An Eight-Year Extension
  • Chris Hine of the Chicago Tribune: The Chicago Blackhawks have signed defenseman Brent Seabrook to an eight year deal worth $55 million – a salary cap hit of $6.875 million.

    “You can’t just go pick up a Brent Seabrook,” general manager Stan Bowman said during the Hawks’ 3-1 victory over the Blues at the United Center. “If you don’t have someone like that … you’re looking for the exact same player.”

    Seabrook will be 39 years old when the contract expires after the 2023-24 season. The Blackhawks have Duncan Keith locked up until 2023 at cap friendly number of approximately $5.54 million.

  • Pierre LeBrun: Seabrook will get $9 million in the first three years of the deal, $7 million in 2019-20, $5 million in 2020-21, $6 million in 2021-22, $5 million in 2022-23 and $4.5 million in 2023-24. A no-movement clause starts immediately and becomes a modified no-trade clause in 2022. By July 1st 2022, he submits a five team trade list for 2022-23. His list expands to 10 teams in 2023-24.
