On the Edmonton Oilers …

  • Joanne Ireland of the Edmonton Journal: Connor McDavid continues to make progress from his broken clavicle. He’s not taking contact yet, but is taking faceoffs and participating in some drills.

“We’re asking each other, ‘Can he play tonight?’ but that’s not real,” said head coach Todd McLellan. “We’re all aware of him getting closer and being more involved. I think he has found a way, as have some of the others who have returned to the ice, to energize our group. They’re able to take some reps at high speed … it drags everybody else along.

“As soon as we can get him back, we will.”

On the New Jersey Devils …

  • Tom Gulitti of the Record: Mike Cammalleri missed last night’s game with an upper-body injury. He’s been skating on his own, but they are being cautious with him.

“He’s day to day right now,” Hynes said. “I’d like to give you more. He is skating. We’re just trying to figure out really what it is. Right now, it truly is day to day and he’s seeing the doctor today and we’ll just make sure it’s nothing more than that.”

On the New York Islanders …

  • NY Islanders: Johnny Boychuck will be out for four to six weeks with an upper-body injury.
