Player Charities

All too often we only hear about the bad things that athletes do away from their respected teams/leagues. This is a section dedicated to showcase the good that NHL players do in their communities and beyond. As time goes by we hope to expand out of list of NHL players and the charities that they are associated with.

I have AML and I am one of the biggest hockey fans you will ever know, I am a Avs and Kings fan. I am usually positive and hopeful but I have been feeling so ill and depressed as of late, what can I do to get back on track of feeling happy, I am a single mom and have a 15 year old son, do you have any advice for me? Hockey is one of the only things that keeps my mind off of my cancer, I just want to thank you and all the teams for helping with the fight.

    Thank you,

Kudos to the many NHL players who support charities. There are so many people that need help in one way or another.

I appreciate that a section of this website has been dedicated to sharing the positive, charitable work that gets accomplished by NHL players. I would like to share a note about the good work that 2011 Clancy Award nominee Jarome Iginla does for KidSport – a charity that strives to help economically challenged families overcome the financial barriers that preven some kids from playing organized sport.
Since 2000, Jarome has contributed $1000 for each regular season goal scored to KidSport Calgary. In 2005, Jarome increased his donation to $2000 per goal with $1000 directed to KidSport Calgary and the other $1000 directed to KidSport Canada. Over the course of the past 11 seasons, that total exceeds $500,000 contributed. Aside from the financial contribution, Jarome has proven to be an outstanding citizen and the pre-eminent role model for kids everywhere.
