Rumors: Jonathan Drouin, Blues, Wild and Senators
Jonathan Drouin

On Jonathan Drouin …

  • TVA Sports: Renaud Lavoie said Thursday evening that there is a possibility that Jonathan Drouin could be traded in the next 24 hours. The most persistent rumor involves the St. Louis Blues.
  • Renaud Lavoie: Updating on last night’s Drouin update: ” 1-possible that Jonathan Drouin could be trade soon but its not a certainty. 2-a trade for Jonathan Drouin could be part of a deal involving multiple players, depends on the scenario. 3-Blues are not the only team interested in Jonathan Drouin. But remember. Steve Yzerman won’t trade him if he’s not getting what he wants.
  • Adrian Dater: After talking with a few management people last night, also hearing that Drouin could be heading to the Blues.
  • David Pagnotta: Told last night that trade talks escalated last night. They were serious at the start of the week and have increased.
  • David Pagnotta: Not saying Drouin will be 100 percent traded today, but there is a good chance.
  • Chris Nichols of Today’s Slapshot: Bob McKenzie on TSN 1040 on Jonathan Drouin and the Minnesota Wild.

“If they’re talking to Minnesota, that’s more interesting because people would assume that maybe it’s Dumba or Jonas Brodin, young defensemen that Tampa would be after. But I think they would be maybe interested in – and again, not singularly or whatever – but they’d want to try to get Charlie Coyle out of there. They’d want to try to get Jason Zucker or Nino Niederreiter or some of those players.

“So I think in the case of Minnesota that some package involving some of those different names are all possibilities. But I don’t know how eager Minnesota is to give up any of those guys. So it’s maybe not as good a fit as we would think it might be.

On the Ottawa Senators …

  • Don Brennan of the Ottawa Sun: The Senators are now able to talk contract extension with Mike Hoffman.

“I’ll just really worry about the on ice performance,” Hoffman said before Wednesday’s game against the Anaheim Ducks. “That’s pretty much all I can do at this point.”

Senators management are conducting their scouting meetings in Florida. It’s not known if they’d like to sign Hoffman to bridge deal or a long-term deal. He’s not sure what they are thinking, but he’d like to stay.

“For sure obviously some security would be nice,” said Hoffman. “I like the city, I like the team, I want to stay here. That’s my number one goal. Hopefully that will be the end result.”
