Posted by Mark Easson in NHL Injuries, NHL News on October 7th, 2010
- Dave Stubbs via twitter: Carey Price will start for the Montreal Canadiens tonight.
- Bruce Garrioch via twitter: Jason Spezza wasn’t on the ice today as he’s still bothered by his ‘tweak’. Senators coach Cory Clouston doesn’t think it will be a long term injury. Clouston, “We’re not going to push him for one game and have him miss four or five games”. Ian Mendes reports new Sens lines, Foligno-Fisher-Alfredsson, Michalek-Regin-Kovalev.
- Ian Mendes via twitter: Filip Kuba is riding a stationary bike now, and hopes to return in 3-4 weeks.
- Ian Walker via twitter: Andrew Peters who was acquired by the Vancouver Canucks for Shane O’Brien, will stay with the AHL Rochester American rather than report to the AHL Manitoba Moose.
- Rich Chere of the Star-Ledger: Adam Mair still doesn’t have a contract with the New Jersey Devils, but continues to practice with the club. “Right now the Devils have only 11 forwards. They liked the way Mair performed during the preseason while on a tryout, but they do not have the cap space to sign him.”
- George Sipple of the Detroit Free Press: Kirk Maltby and Derek Meech cleared waivers. Maltby will meet with Red Wings GM Ken Holland possibly today to see if he’ll retire or report to Grand Rapids. Holland hopes he’ll report.
- Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch: Columbus GM Scott Howson is not forcing the issue when it comes to improving their defensive corps.
Rangers-Fedotenko talking … Getzlaf new Ducks captain … Bernier beats out Ersberg … Morrison released
Posted by Mark Easson in NHL News, NHL Rumors on October 4th, 2010
- Bruce Garrioch via twitter: The New York Rangers and Ruslan Fedotenko continue to talk about a contract. 3 other teams have shown interest if he can’t get a deal worked out the Rangers.
- Updated: Darren Millard via twitter: Ryan Getzlaf has been named captain, with Saku Koivu and Teemu Salanne being named assistants.Eric Stephens via twitter: Ryan Getzlaf had the vacant ‘C’ on his jersey last night. No one has worn the ‘C’ this pre-season, and official news on the new captain won’t likely happen until today or tomorrow. Helene Elliott via twitter: She backs up Stephens dates on the naming of the new Anaheim Ducks captain, with Getzlaf a good pick to get it.
- Helene Elliott of the LA Times: Los Angeles Kings backup battle was won by Jonathan Bernier. Erik Ersberg didn’t get into an exhibition game after injuring his hand. He was unlikely to beat out Bernier anyways as he was in Murray’s doghouse for most of last season. Ersberg is set to make $750,000 this season, and will likely be put on waivers.
- Ben Kuzma via twitter: Brendan Morrison was released by the Vancouver Canucks, he never received a contract offer. Morrison was asked about the possibility of retirement, adding “No, I’ll see how this year goes and make a decision. I still feel I can play. I know I can play.” Ian Walker of the Vancouver Sun: Morrison had a good camp, with the Calgary Flames the best bet to go after the 35-year old forward due to the amount of injuries they’ve had down the middle. Brian Burke said in an email that the Maple Leafs don’t have any interest in Morrison. The Canucks are down to 28 players after sending Victor Oreskovich, Sergei Shirokov, Yann Sauve and Bill Sweatt to the Manitoba Moose.
- George Richards of the Miami Herald: The Florida Panthers goalie of the future, Jacob Markstrom was sent to the AHL by the team. Michael Grabner, Andrew Peters and Joe Callahan were released by the club, and will be sent to the AHL if they clear waivers. Grabner being put on waivers is a bit surprising since he was part of the deal that sent Keith Ballard to the Canucks.
- Nick Kypreos: Sources are saying that Kyle Wellwood is heading to the KHL, for a 1 year deal worth over $1 million with bonuses.
