Sidney Crosby Press Conference Video … Cory Stillman retires … Lokomotiv/KHL update … NHL has plan for team tragedies
Posted by Mark Easson in NHL News on September 8th, 2011
- Sidney Crosby Press Conference:
- Greg Wyshynski of Yahoo! Sports: Cory Stillman will officially retire from the NHL today. A press conference will be held in Florida, and he’ll be working with the Panthers in the player development department. He did receive some offers, including the Hurricanes, but felt it was time to move on.
- Slava Malamud via twitter: The KHL season will be on hold until September 12th with the possible exception of Lokomoitv. Dmitry Chesnokov via twitter: KHL President Medvedev said that Lokomotiv would be made up of team alumni playing elsewhere and free agents. Slava Malamud via twitter: Between 30 and 40 KHL players have volunteered to play for Lokomotiv. Looking like Lokomotiv will be rebuilt through a draft with 1-2 players coming from each team. Maxim Zyuzyakin was sent down to their junior team the night before, would have been on the plane if hadn’t been. The 2 survivors, Galimov and Sizov, are in Moscow for further treatment. Russia’s top burn specialist has been summoned to help save Galimov.
- Kevin McGran of the Toronto Star: The NHL has an “Emergency Rehabilitation Plan” if a team has a catastrophe and is left with less that 14 players and 1 goalie.
• The league requires each team to have a $1 million (all figures U.S.) insurance policy on each player.
• The “disabled team” would be allowed to negotiate to buy players under contract from other teams, with payment coming from the insurance money.
• If that didn’t fill out the roster, a draft would be held, much like an expansion draft. Teams could protect 10 players and one goalie.
• The disabled team would be allowed to take no more than one player from each of the other teams. The price for each player is $1 million in insurance money.
A quiet Leafs summer … Hulsizer candidate to by Blues … Possible retirees this year and next
Posted by Mark Easson in NHL News, NHL Rumors on August 22nd, 2011
- George Popalis of the Toronto Sun: The Maple Leafs have been quiet this summer with regards to the free agent market, not doing anything since Tim Connolly, and it’s probably a good thing. Over paying for someone and talking away a roster spot for a someone in their young core may not be the best for the team. Nazem Kadri, Joe Colborne, Luca Caputi, Matt Frattin, Jerry D’Amigo, Jake Gardiner and Jesse Blacker are all in their early 20′s and deserve a good look at camp.
- Jeremy Rutherford of the St. Louis Post Dispatch: Matthew Hulsizer is one of the candidates attempting to buy the St. Louis Blues. It’s expected that Hulsizer will submit a bid to buy the Blues. The deadline to submit a bid is today. Current minority owner Tom Stillman is also expected to make a bid.
- Lyle Richardson of Spector’s Hockey: Spector lists some players who could retire this year or next: Teemu Selanne, Mike Modano, Cory Stillman, Marty Turco, John Madden, Sergei Samsonov, Mike Grier. Possible candidates for retiring next summer: Martin Brodeur, Nicklas Lidstrom, Sheldon Souray, Jason Blake, Saku Koivu, Sean Avery, Jaroslav Spacek, Filip Kuba, Willie Mitchell, Jaromir Jagr, Ray Whitney and Steve Sullivan.
Allen’s 10 early projections … Nassau vote today, Kansas City and NJ Nets owner could be paying attention … Weber’s hearing tomorrow
Posted by Mark Easson in NHL News, NHL Rumors on August 1st, 2011
- Kevin Allen of the USA Today: Allen offers 10 early projections for the upcoming season. 1. Jeff Carter and Rick Nash will score more than 75 combined goals this season. 2. Predicts the Oilers will be an “elite Pittsburgh Penguins-style contender by 2013-14.” 3. If Shane Doan isn’t re-signed during the season, he’ll be hot name at the trade deadline. 4. Ales Hemsky will lead the league in trade rumors again. 5. The Rangers and Sabres have improved and should move up the standings. Some think the Capitals and Penguins will drop, Allen doesn’t. 6. Best bargain goaltending: Tomas Vokoun ($1.5 million), Jonathan Quick ($1.8 million) and Jimmy Howard ($2.25 million). 7. The Predators will acquire a top 6 scoring forward. Cory Stillman and Sergei Samsonov are free agents, or they could go the trade route with teams looking so shed some salary. 8. The Lightning will give up 20 to 25 less goals due to having Dwayne Roloson for the entire season. 9. Predators Blake Geoffrion will be in the rookie of the year race. 10. Sabres owner Terry Pegula will be the teams MVP this year.
- Larry Brooks of the NY Post: The Nassau County referendum vote for a new arena is today. If they don’t get a positive vote for a new arena, the team could be up for sale. Would NJ Nets owner Mikhail Prokhorov want to buy the club and bring it to Brooklyn? The new arena being built in Brooklyn will be ready for the 2012-13 season, and could fill 44-60 dates.
- Peter Grathoff of the Kansas City Star: If votes go in the way of not building the new arena in Nassau County, it could one day increase the chances of moving them to Kansas City. The Islanders lease expires at the Nassau Coliseum in 2015.
- Josh Cooper of the Tennessean: Shea Weber’s arbitration hearing is tomorrow morning at 8 a.m., and both sides have filed their written briefs. After briefs are filed, it sometimes speeds up negotiations to get a deal done before the hearing.
- Kelly Friesen via twitter: Word is that the Blues would like Jaden Schwartz to play with the Tri-City Americans but he’d rather stay at Colorado College.
Khabibulin doesn’t have to wear pink underwear … Hints on Modano … Canucks could make moves … Savard doubtful for this year
Posted by Mark Easson in NHL News on July 31st, 2011
- Edmonton Journal: Nikolai Khabibulin arrived at jail yesterday for his 15 day stay. Officials have said he won’t have to wear the “black and white stripped uniform and pink underwear” during his stay at the tent city jail.
- Jeff Miller of the OC Register: The Anaheim Ducks are still waiting to hear if Teemu Selanne will retire or come back for another season. If he does decide to play, it will be with the Ducks. Some players still remain unsigned: Mike Modano, John Madden, Chris Drury, JP Dumont, Cory Stillman, Nikolai Zherdev, Bryan McCabe, Scott Hannan, Nick Boynton, Chris Campoli, Paul Mara.
- Detroit Free Press: Mike Modano was on a Dallas radio show on Friday, and when asked if he’ll play again, Modano responded: “I don’t know. I think that was the swan song.” He later answered “Not yet” when asked if he wanted to make a retirement announcement on the show.
- Jason Botchford of the Vancouver Province: Canucks assistant GM Laurence Gilman said “We’re still looking at areas to improve the hockey team,” … “There is money to be spent.” A Brad Winchester signing is not imminent, the interest may be more from Winchester’s side and not from the Canucks. The Canucks could look at a trade as they have “a glut of borderline second liners and a backup goalie who is ready to be a starter for another team.”
- Fluto Shinzawa of the Boston Globe: Bruins GM Peter Chiarelli won’t comment on Brad Marchand contract negotiations, but he’ll most likely be signed to a 2 year deal, possibly in the $2.25 million per season range. Center David Krejci is entering the final year of his 3 year, $11.25 million contract. They may begin talks with Krejci, who could be looking for a deal in the $5 million per year range. It is doubtful that Marc Savard plays this year. “As a layperson,’’ Chiarelli said, “I’d be very surprised if Marc will be playing this coming year.’’
Shea Weber update … Emery gets tryout from ‘Hawks … Khabibulin heading to ‘Tent City’ … Some remaining UFAs
Posted by Mark Easson in NHL Free Agents, NHL News, NHL Rumors on July 28th, 2011
- Josh Cooper of the Tennessean: Shea Weber and the Predators have their arbitration hearing on August 2nd if a deal can’t get done before.
“It would be way better for the player and the team to negotiate a contract,” Predators General Manager David Poile said. “But the arbitration gives you that ability if you can’t do that. And right now that’s where we fall if we can’t get a contract done.”
Yesterday morning Poile said he tried contacting Weber’s agents but hadn’t heard back from them.
“We are preparing to go to Toronto (for arbitration),” Poile said. “Would I like to sign Shea to a longer-term contract vs. going to arbitration? Absolutely.”
- Chris Kuc of the Chicago Tribune: Goalie Ray Emery will be attending the Chicago Blackhawks training camp on a tryout. He’ll battle Alexander Salak for the backup position. The Blackhawks will have until Oct. 1st to decide whether to sign him or not. “He’s an NHL goalie,” Barry said. “He’s there to play in the NHL. That’s what the plan is. He would not want to start in the ‘A.’ He certainly intends to be worthy of a one-way deal.”
- Katie Strang of Newsday: Islanders goalie Rick DiPietro would welcome Alexei Yashin back.
- Conal Pierse of the Edmonton Journal: Nikolai Khabibulin will spend 15 days in Arizona’s Tent City Jail. “There will be no coffee, no salt, no cigarettes, no porno, no movies,” Arpaio said. “The only television we give them is the weather channel, so they can see how hot it is.”
- Paul Hunter of the Toronto Star: There are some big names left on the free agent market, but their better years may be behind them. Some may be forced to leave the league, take big pay cuts or retire. Teemu Selanne still hasn’t informed the Ducks what he plans on doing. Some other players available are: Bryan McCabe, Chris Drury, Scott Hannan, Cory Stillman, Nikolai Zherdev, Alexei Kovalev, Sergei Samsonov, John Madden, Marty Turco, Mike Modano.
- Winnipeg Sun: A Russian news organization is saying that Nikolai Zherdev wants to play for the Jets. No word if they want him or not.
- Kevin Allen of the USA Today: Ryan Callahan salary breakdown: $4 million, $4 million, and $4.85 million.
- Arthur Staple via twitter: The Rangers have no plans to buyout forward Wojtek Wolski in the next buyout window.
Rangers lock up Boyle, Dubinsky and Callahan remain … Jackets looking at FA wingers, maybe Hemsky? Alzner talks continue … Yzerman – Purcell talks continue
Posted by Mark Easson in NHL Free Agents, NHL News, NHL Rumors on July 15th, 2011
- Larry Brooks of the NY Post: The Rangers locked up another one of their RFAs yesterday, signing Brian Boyle to a 3 year deal worth $5.1 million, a $1.7 million cap hit. Ryan Callahan and Brandon Dubinsky have both filed for salary arbitration. Dubinsky’s hearing is next Thrusday and the Rangers are expected to select a 2 year arbitration award. Dubinsky is scheduled to be a UFA in 2 years. Callahan would be a UFA after next season. Dubinsky and Callahan are expected to get between a $3.7 and $4.4 million arbitration award. The Rangers are looking for a veteran 3rd pair defenseman.
- Steve Zipay of Newsday: The Rangers have about $11.2 million remaining, so there is plenty of room to get Dubinsky and Callahan signed. Both players are expected to sign multi-year contracts worth around $4 million per season.
- Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch: Kristian Huselius had surgery yesterday to repair his torn pectoral muscle. GM Scott Howson will meet up with Huselius today, in between phone calls where he’ll be looking for a free agent winger.
“We’re going to be active,” Howson said. “We’re going to do our best to find somebody who can help us get through this stretch of games without (Huselius) – however long that may be.”
They will be seeking to sign someone to a 1 year deal worth $2 million or less. Some possibilities are: Cory Stillman, Vaclav Prospal, Brendan Morrison, Steve Bernier, Sergei Samsonov, J.P. Dumont, Marek Svatos and Jason Williams.
- Aaron Portzline via twitter: Portzline wouldn’t be surprised if Kristian Huselius’ injury sparked talk on the long-whispered Ales Hemsky to Columbus deal.
- Stephen Whyno via twitter: Karl Alzner’s agent in a text: “We are still talking and will continue the negotiations [yesterday].”
- Damian Cristodero of the St. Petersburg Times: Teddy Purcell’s arbitration hearing is set for July 20th, but GM Steve Yzerman hopes to get a deal done before that. The sides are not far apart after they had a “good, long” conversation last night.
“I fully expect to see Teddy in the lineup in September and have a contract done,” Yzerman said. ”Whether it’s through the arbitration process or before that, we’ll have a contract in place next week.”
Predators hearing tomorrow … Doughty wants to be highest paid King … Gorges’ hopes to avoid arbitration … Burke audio … Stamkos/MacArthur agent audio
Posted by Mark Easson in NHL Free Agents, NHL News, NHL Rumors on July 7th, 2011
- Darren Dreger via twitter: The grievance hearing over the Predators qualifying offers starts tomorrow.
- Dennis Bernstein via twitter: Answering a question on Drew Doughty: The Kings want to do over a 7 year deal, Doughty wants to do less. Bernstein says that Doughty wants to the highest paid LA King. (Anze Kopitar has a cap hit of $6.8 million)
- Pat Hickey of the Montreal Gazette: Josh Gorges’ agent hopes to get a deal done with the Canadiens before they go to salary arbitration. Arbitration hearings run from July 20th to August 4th. Last year only 4 of 19 players that filed for arbitration went to the hearing. Gorges earlier rejected a qualifying offer of $1.3 million. Money shouldn’t be issue, it’s the term that could be a problem.
- Dennis Bernstein via twitter: Alexander Semin is being shopped around the league, he won’t end up in San Jose.
- Nick Cotsonika via twitter: Hurricanes GM Jim Rutherford said that Joe Corvo suggested at trade, but didn’t demand one. Dan Rosen via twitter: Rutherford told Rosen that “the idea to sign Kaberle actually came about through a phone conversation with Joe Corvo’s agent.”
- Larry Brooks of the NY Post: Ryan Callahan, Brandon Dubinsky, Brian Boyle and Michael Sauer all filed for salary arbitration, but the Rangers hope to get all signed before their hearing dates.
It’s fair to project that bookend foundation pieces Callahan and Dubinsky will come in at somewhere between $3.7 million and $4.4 million per season. It’s safe to say Sauer, prime for an offer sheet that inexplicably did not materialize over the last four days, will be in at between $1.5 million and $2 million. Boyle is a tougher case, coming off his first productive year in the NHL, but he likely will come in between $1.25 million and $1.75 million.
- Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Sun: 5 free agents who might interest the Jets: Cory Stillman, Ryan Shannon, Jason Jaffray, Mike Grier, and John Madden.
- Scott Howson via twitter: After signing Radek Martinek, the Blue Jackets will “sit tight for now.” Will assess the market and talk to teams about trades.
- Fan 590 Audio: Don Meehan, the agent for Steven Stamkos and Clarke MacArthur.
- TSN Audio: Brian Burke press conference.
- James Mirtle via twitter: Brian Burke: “We haven’t written off Jeff Finger … If he can come in and take a job that’s great.”
Lemieux speaks with Jagr … Kings maybe looking for a LWer … Smyth to CAL or EDM … Kings may go after the other Richards … Leafs looking to deal
Posted by Mark Easson in NHL Entry Draft, NHL Free Agents, NHL News, NHL Rumors on June 24th, 2011
We will continue to post rumors and trades all day long, so check back often for more Draft and Trade rumblings.
- Josh Yole of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review: Mario Lemieux came away encourage from his talk with Jaromir Jagr. The Pens haven’t made an offer to Jagr, and are unsure if he’d take less money then he may get elsewhere. Detroit could offer more money. Jagr can’t sign anywhere until July 1st as it’s a “blackout period” now as stipulated in the CBA. Sources are saying Pens GM Ray Shero may not want to pay more than $1 million for Jagr.
- Dennis Bernstein via twitter: The LA Kings left wing wish list could line up like: Eric Cole, Simon Gagne, Ryan Malone, Alex Tanguay, and Cory Stillman.
- Randy Sportak of the Calgary Sun: The Flames are interested in trading for Ryan Smyth, though their level of interest isn’t known. If they don’t think they can get Alex Tanguay signed, they would have a hole on the left wing and would have a “net presence on the powerplay.” Maybe the Kings would take Ales Kotalik and his $3 million, could bury him in the minors.
- Nick Cotsonika via twitter: Ryan Smyth asked to be moved close to home. Kings GM Lombardi is down to 2 teams, started with 3. Pierre LeBrun via twitter: The Kings had more trade talks with the Flames and Oilers yesterday about Smyth, he’s going to end up in Alberta.
- Andy Strickland via twitter: If the Kings are able to move out Ryan Smyth, don’t rule a them making a move for Brad Richards.
- Andy Strickland via twitter: A high draft pick will likely be packaged with Ryan Smyth in any trade to accommodate taking on his contract.
- Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun: It doesn’t look like the Ottawa Senators will be able to move up from the #6 spot in tonight’s draft.
“We’ve been asked if we’d be willing to move a player with a pick rather than two picks,” Murray told The Team 1200. “It depends on the player. I think one team did ask about a little Swedish defenceman (Erik Karlsson) and the sixth overall and it was politely declined. There are lots of ideas out there that we don’t agree with and there will be lots of offers. You just have to pick the right one.
“I can see us moving two picks for sure, if not three, but I believe the price for moving up for one pick is usually two picks, not three picks. That’s what it has been in the past. I could see us moving a couple of picks. We could be talking about (keeping) eight or nine picks, but we could be talking 11. I would guess that we would probably trade two picks.”
- David Shoalts of the Globe and Mail: Brian Burke,
“I’ve got lots of lines in the water,” the Toronto Maple Leafs general manager said. “But I have no idea what’s going to happen.”
The Maple Leafs are trying to land a #1 center or move up in the draft. They have the #25, #30, and #39 picks but they are not enough to get close to the top 5 picks. He may not be that interested in moving the #25 pick to get “to the teens” as picks from #10 to around #26 are not much different in quality. Burke couldn’t answer questions regarding whether he was in on Mike Richards and/or Jeff Carter as it would violate NHL tampering rules. Darren Dreger reported that the Flyers called about Nazem Kadri and Nikolai Kulemin but never got to Burke (see one of yesterday’s posts for a little more info on it).
- Rob Longley of the Toronto Sun: Maple Leafs GM Brian Burke wants to see if winger Clarke MacArthur is a one year wonder before giving him a long-term deal, “The problem is I’m not prepared to commit to a long-term contract for a player who really had one productive year.”It would seem that negotiations for the RFA have come to a halt.
“Putting a value on that is not easy either. That’s why we haven’t been able to sign him. It’s not that he’s being unreasonable, it’s just ‘What is he?’
“Is he a 70-point player or is he a 35-point player where he has been most of his career, so I’m not surprised we’re having a difficult time arriving at a value.”
Burke on RFA Luke Schenn,
“There doesn’t appear to be any urgency on that one from their side,” Burke said of negotiations with Schenn’s camp. “They’ll probably wait and see if other teams sign contracts that they think might help them.”
- CP in the Globe and Mail: The Montreal Canadiens have re-signed Andrei Markov to a 3 year, $17.25 million deal, a $5.75 million cap hit.
- Bob McKenzie via twitter: Ilya Bryzgalov’s contract breakdown: “$10M, $6.5M, $8M, $6M, $6M,, $5.5M, $5.5M $2.25M, $1.25M.”
- Pierre LeBrun via twitter: Robyn Regehr was going to sleep on the proposed trade that would send him to Buffalo. He’s already spoken with Darcy Regier and Terry Pegula.
- Tim Panaccio via twitter: Sources are saying Chris Pronger will be offered the Flyers captaincy.
- Will DePaoli of Inside Pittsburgh Sports: Max Talbot rejected a 3 year offer from the Penguins last week. It’s believed to be a “slight” decrease in pay from his previous $1.05 million salary, possibly in the $800,000 range. If Talbot is going to take a reduction in pay, he may be wanting a 4 year deal.
Bergeron’s status still unknown … Hurricanes off-season notes … Devils coaching candidates … Some Flyers goalie options
Posted by Mark Easson in NHL Free Agents, NHL News, NHL Rumors on May 17th, 2011
- Steve Conroy of the Boston Herald: Patrice Bergeron skated with the Bruins strength and conditioning coach yesterday before practice. He did some work with the team, so there may be hope that he can go tonight. He took part in some power play and penalty killing drills, and took a few shifts with linemates Recchi and Marchand. When asked if Bergeron was ruled out for Game 2, Julien said, “No comments.” Then he added, “I don’t know. Is that better?”
- Steve Conroy of the Boston Herald: Tyler Seguin practiced on the 1st power play unit with Milan Lucic and Nathan Horton, and later on the 2nd unit with Mark Recchi and Michael Ryder. “We’ve got different looks, we’ve got different players. We want to make the power play work. And it’s never a bad thing to have those guys go through it, and if at one point you need him, you need him,” Julien said. “And what I said (Sunday) was exactly what we wanted to do with Tyler. I mean he hadn’t played a playoff game yet, and you give him a little bit to chew and then you give him maybe opportunities if need be in other areas.”
- Bob McKenzie via twitter: “IF, and I said IF, ATL moves to WPG, conventional wisdom is WPG to Northwest, MIN to Central and NSH to Southeast. But…” “…due to time issues, notion of WPG playing 1 season in Southeast not out of question. Realignment would come 1 yr later. Still lotsa ifs.”
- Chip Alexander via twitter: Though there is no offical work, Paul Maurice is expected to return as the Hurricanes head coach next season. Ron Francis is expected to move to assistant GM from his assistant coaching position. Erik Cole could possibly re-sign with the Canes before July 1st, and Brandon Sutter could get a long term deal. Cory Stillman could also re-sign with the Hurricanes, and then move to the front office after he’s done playing. The Canes will look to re-sign Chad LaRose. Re-signing Joni Pitkanen and Jussi Jokinen will be tougher. If they are unable to re-sign Pitkanen, they will look at bringing in another defenseman. They will also look signing an experienced backup and 4th line center.
- Dmitry Chesnokov via twitter: Kings prospect Maxim Kitsyn said he’ll most likely start next year in the KHL.
- Chris Botta of the NY Times: The New Jersey Devils head coaching search will now start as all candidates are available to talk. Likely to get a call from Lou are Ken Hitchcock, Michel Therrien, Kirk Muller, Scott Gordon, Mike Haviland and Larry Robinson. They should have a head coach picked before the draft on June 24th.
- Chuck Gormley of the Deleware New Journal: There are whispers that the Flyers may make a pitch for Ryan Miller, Henrik Lundqvist, Miikka Kiprusoff, Niklas Backstrom or Martin Brodeur. The only way to pull off a Miller, Lundqvist or Brodeur deal would be to involve a 3rd team. Kiprusoff will be 35 in October and makes $5.833 million. Backstrom has a $6 million cap hit and would require them to shed at least $3 million. They could trade Jeff Carter to the Wild. Gormley adds they could send Kris Versteeg and Matt Carle for Backstrom and perhaps Brent Burns (It would take a lot more than Versteeg and Carle to get Backstrom and Burns IMO).

- Eric Stephens via twitter: The Ducks will be playing the Sabres in Helsinki on Oct. 7th. Playing the NY Rangers in Stockholm on Oct. 8th.
Lemaire steps down as Devil coach again … Zetterberg to miss start of series, Kronwall to return … Bolland could be back in round 1 … Changes coming in Dallas, Carolina?
Posted by Mark Easson in NHL Free Agents, NHL Injuries, NHL News on April 11th, 2011
- Mark Everson of the NY Post: Jacques Lemaire has once again stepped down as the New Jersey Devils head coach. Lemaire took over from John MacLean who was fired on Dec. 23rd after posting a 9-22-2 record. The Devils were 29-17-3 under Lemaire, and posted a 23-3-2 run.
- Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press: Red Wings forward Henrik Zetterberg is battling a knee injury. “I don’t expect him to start the series,” Babcock said. “But he’s really pushing things, and he’s working hard at it, and he’ll be ready to go as soon as he can.” Niklas Kronwall should be ready for Game 1 after missing the last 5 games with an upper-body injury.
- Craig Custance via twitter: Blackhawks coach Joel Quennville on center David Bolland, “Hopefully he can be a part early in this first series.”
- David Pollak of the San Jose Mercury News: Sharks forward Ryane Clowe should be ready for Game 1.

- Mike Heika of the Dallas Morning News: Stars GM Joe Nieuwendyk now faces the tough decision on whether they want to re-sign Brad Richards, and if they can afford to sign him. Other Stars UFA’s are Jamie Langenbrunner, Karlis Skrastins, Brandon Segal, Jason Williams, Brian Sutherby and Jeff Woywitka. They also have to decide if they want to make a coaching change or not.
- Eric Francis in the Toronto Sun: Don’t expect to hear any updates on Alex Tanguay and the Calgary Flames talks from Tanguay’s agent, Steve Kotlowitz. A decision should be made by May if ESPN and the NHL can come to terms on a TV deal.
- Katie Strang via twitter: Free agent Zenon Konopka is optimistic a deal will get down with the Islanders. It will be 8 weeks of rest with no surgery for several of his injuries.
- Chip Alexander of the Raleigh News & Observer: The Carolina Hurricanes could have a different look next year as Eric Cole, Joni Pitkanen, Jussi Jokinen, Chad LaRose, Cory Stillman, Pat Dwyer and Jay Harrison are UFA’s. GM Jim Rutherford said that re-signing Cole is a priority. They may be looking to make changes on their blueline, so Joni Pitkanen could be gone.
