Posted by Mark Easson in NHL News, NHL Rumors on October 20th, 2011
- Chris Botta via twitter: Devils goalie Martin Brodeur will be out 7-10 days as he rehabs his shoulder.
- Steve MacFarlane of the Calgary Sun: Flames GM Jay Feaster declines to comment on trade rumors involving his team. In the past he has said that anyone not named Iginla, Kiprusoff, Giordano and maybe Glencross are fair game. Rene Bourque’s name has come up recently. He carries a $3.33 million cap hit for this year and the next 4 years, and has a modified no-trade clause. They may be better off to keep him unless they can get a something that would help the team now and in the future. Matt Stajan, Niklas Hagman and Olli Jokinen have also been in the rumors, but Jokinen has been one of their more consistent forwards so far.
- Fluto Shinzawa of the Boston Globe: Tyler Seguin found himself on the top line at yesterday’s Bruins practice: Milan Lucic-Chris Kelly-Tyler Seguin, Brad Marchand-Patrice Bergeron-Nathan Horton, Jordan Caron-David Krejci/Rich Peverley-Benoit Pouliot, Daniel Paille-Gregory Campbell-Shawn Thornton.
- David Shoalts of the Globe and Mail: Jets rookie Mark Scheifele scored his first NHL goal last night against the Maple Leafs, but the decision on whether to send him to back to junior or keep him up for the year is fast approaching. Next Thursday will likely mark his 9th game, if he plays 10, he can’t go back. There are indications that the Jets don’t want to rush him along, so he may end up back with Barrie.
- Tim Panaccio of CSN Philly: After recalling Brayden Schenn yesterday, the Flyers are extremely close to the salary cap ceiling. At some point they are going to have to shed some major salary if they want to have some flexibility at the trade deadline.
- Larry Brooks via twitter: Wojtek Wolski is in the final year of his deal, he carries $3.8 million cap hit, and appears to “becoming an unmistakable object of derision by coach John Tortorella.” Wolski has been out for 3 games with a groin issue. When Tortorella was asked if Wolski would be in against the Flames, Torts responded: “We can’t get him out of the tub.” When asked if it was part of treatment for the groin, he responded: “I guess.” Marty Biron might get the start tonight.
- Darren Dreger via twitter: The Maple Leafs assigned Nazem Kadri to the AHL yesterday. Tim Wharnsby via twitter: Nazem Kadri will now replace the injured Colby Armstrong.
- Allen Panzeri of the Ottawa Citizen: Craig Anderson will get the start in net for the Senators.
- Tracey Myers via twitter: Corey Crawford will start in net for the Blackhawks.
- Dan Murphy via twitter: Roberto Luongo will start in net for the Canucks against the Predators.

We’re very near a decision here.” The Avalanche leave on Sunday for a 4 game road trip, and it’s possible that Forsberg will decide if he’s going to join the team or not by then. If Forsberg comes back, it’s likely on left wing.

- Andy Strickland of True Hockey: Sources have told Strickland that Marc Savard passed his baseline test, but is still weeks away from returning. He’s been skating but hasn’t practiced with the team yet. The Bruins may have told Blake Wheeler’s agent that they won’t be trading him because they like his age and upside. The Bruins have been scouting the Phoenix Coyotes.
- Craig Custance of the Sporting News: Phoenix Coyotes GM Don Maloney on Keith Yandle trade rumors, “Listen, that was just pure, utter fantasy. Keith is an important part of our future. He knows it,” Maloney said. “Not that anybody can’t be traded … But it would have to be something very special.” Maloney did have coffee with Peter Chiarelli in Ottawa which helped spark trade rumors. Maloney spoke with Yandle’s agent in the summer about an extension, but things are on hold until the owner situation has stabilized.

- Iain MacIntyre of the Vancouver Sun: Alex Burrows return the Vancouver Canucks lineup is getting closer and it could mean that one of Jeff Tambellini, Peter Schaefer or Guillaume Desbiens could be out. The cap ramifications of Burrows could also impact Ryan Parent ($900,000), though injuries to their blueline complicate that move.
- Sam Carchidi of the Philadelphia Inquirer: The Philadelphia Flyers demoted Nik Zherdev to the 4th line at practice and would not talk to reporters after. Two games ago he was taken off the power-play unit and is averaging about 12 1/2 minutes per game.

- I’m sure people have been telling Dion Phaneuf to hit the net more often, but he was showing symptoms of ‘Jason Blake-itis’ last night, shooting pucks into the middle of the chest of the opposing goalies. The next stage of this illness is flutter wrist shots from the side boards at terrible angles.

Trade in the works for the Bruins? Sens, Oilers, and Flames looking to make moves … Flyers looking for D
Posted by Mark Easson in NHL Rumors on January 25th, 2010
- The Ottawa Senators will be buyers this year, but not for Kovalchuck. The Senators will be looking for another scoring forward. Ray Whitney and Matt Cullen, both of Carolina could be options. The Oilers could move anyone, the Senators were interested in Dustin Penner before, but the Oil might be reluctant to deal him. Winger Colby Armstrong is available, the Flames have been trying to get him for weeks.
- The Flames have been looking to deal for weeks, Olli Jokinen and Craig Conroy are being shopped.
Joanne Ireland of the Edmonton Journal: The Oilers have been rumored to be shopping Sheldon Souray, who’ll waive his no-trade as long as they follow some of his parameters. His family will be the main parameter (he didn’t list what the parameters were), and they are out west. “It’s no secret my family is as important as the game.” So geography will be extremely important.
- Chris Osgood is getting frustrated in Detroit. After only starting once in 1 month, and hearing his coach say they needed Howard to start as they need the points, Osgood broke from his positive talk. ”I’ve gotten him a lot of points, too, and you can write that. I got him to the Stanley Cup finals the last two years and you can write that, too,” said Osgood.
- Do the Blue Jackets trade Raffi Torres for a 2nd round pick? There may be 8-10 teams willing to give up a 2nd.
- Trade destinations for Petr Sykora: Calgary, Boston or Anaheim.
- Marek Svatos is available for a mid-round pick.
- An Eastern Conference team, maybe the Devils, might make a pitch for Mike Modano, though Modano might might not agree.
Tim Panaccio of SCNPhilly.com: Paul Holmgren is looking to upgrade the Flyers defense corps, especially since Ryan Parent went down for 6 weeks. The Flyers 6th – 8th d-men have all been hurt throughout the season, so depth might be a concern for them.
Around the Boards – Fri. Oct. 16th
Posted by Mark Easson in NHL News, NHL Rumors on October 16th, 2009
- According to the Dallas Morning News, it might not be a surprise if Marty Turco is traded at some point this year. He’ll be an unrestricted free agent, and no extension talk has taken place.
- Scott Clemmensen will get his first start of the season for the Florida Panthers tonight against the Flyers. Nothing like sitting for a couple weeks then thrown in against the Flyers.
- Phil Kessel may be ahead of his mid-November return date and Jonas Gustavsson should be skating today and could be ready for Saturday.
- Mike Van Ryn’s season is over before it even started. His knee wasn’t healing as well as it should have been, and has gone under the knife to repair his damaged left knee. He came over to Toronto over a year ago for Bryan McCabe. He’s a solid Dman when healthy, but that is main issue with him. Van Ryn only made it in 27 games last season as he was out with the knee injury, broken nose, broken hand, and 2 concussions.
- Craig Conroy is back centering Jarome Iginla. Iginla and Jokinen have struggled this season when lined up together.
- In a desperate attempt to put more then 6,000 fans in the seats, the Coyotes have put in place a promotion for 5 games (Oct. 24 vs. Los Angeles Kings, Nov. 14 vs. Dallas Stars , Dec. 5 vs. Ottawa Senators , Jan. 16 vs. Minnesota Wild , Feb. 13 vs. Dallas Stars) where the team wins, fans who attended the game will get a voucher for a free ticket.
