Brodeur leaves game after 2nd … 6-10 teams calling Bergeron … Coyotes looking for a goalie? Audio on Kings and Ducks

  • Andy Strickland of True Hockey: Marc-Andre Bergeron could get clearance to return after off-season knee surgery as early as next Tuesday. Bergeron has been contacted by 6-10 teams, no formal offers have been presented. The Sharks continue to look for a defenseman, Devin Setoguchi could be used to bring in a blueliner. The Phoenix Coyotes may look to bring a goaltender as Ilya Bryzgalov could be asking for more money than the Coyotes would like to go. Strickland wonders if the Bruins would move Tuukka Rask for a puck moving defenseman. Tim Thomas has bounced back after a sub-par season. Keith Yandle is not be shopped according to GM Don Maloney. St. Louis Blues defenseman Barret Jackman started skating, but won’t return before next week.
  • Rich Chere of the Star-Ledger: Martin Brodeur left last night’s game against the Maple Leafs after the 2nd period after re-aggravating his bruised elbow. Brodeur is returning to New Jersey to have it examined by the doctor who operated on his torn tendon 2 years ago. “I just tweaked it again,” Brodeur said. “I wasn’t 100 percent. Somebody came through the crease and he hit me on my stick.” The incident took place with 4:15 remaining in the 2nd, and it was obvious right after that Brodeur was in discomfort. “I’m concerned. I’m not scared of it,” Brodeur said. “One-hundred percent I don’t think it’s something really bad. Maybe I have to sit out and come back when I’m fully healed.” Brodeur hasn’t ruled out joining the team St. Louis for Saturday’s game.
  • Joe Haggerty via twitter: Boston Bruins coach Claude Julien says that Marc Savard is close to practicing with the team, won’t return before December.
  • Dave Stubbs via twitter: 8 teams scouted the Canadiens-Predators last night: Lightning, Wild, Coyotes, Avalanche, Blue Jackets, Canucks, Penguins, and Panthers.
  • John Merrigan of Blueshirt Banter: Chris Drury is getting closer to returning to the Rangers lineup. Todd White should lose his roster spot. Derek Stepan and Erik Christensen are likely lose some ice time after Drury returns.
  • Eric Stephens of the OC Register: Kyle Chipchura is not suffering post concussion symptoms anymore, and should be returning soon. Andy Sutton is targeting next week to return from thumb surgery. Joffery Lupul continues to skate. The Ducks will have to make some roster moves, and they are unsure of what they will at the moment. Sheldon Brookbank could be one player they move, he’s been a healthy scratch in favor of Luca Sbisa lately. Nick Bonino and Kyle Palmieri could be returned to the AHL.
  • ESPN 710 Audio: Dennis Bernstein of The Fourth Period talks “about the Kings’ depth being tested early in the season, and whether or not the streaking Ducks are due for a letdown.” He talks about how the Kings need to add a scoring left winger for the first line.
  • Dmitry Chesnokov via twitter: The Toronto Maple Leafs could be loaning prospect Mikhail Stefanovich to Dimamo Minsk of the KHL. They’ve had discussions and Minsk got the OK.
  • NESN video: “Two Minutes for Instigating” Jack Edwards, Mike Milbury, and Andy Brickley. Is there any hope in Florida?

Zach Parise out 3 months … Phaneuf suffers deep cut to leg … Doughty likely back tomorrow … Weber-Preds to continue to talk

Tom Gulitti of the Bergon Record: Zach Parise will miss 3 months due to a torn meniscus in his right knee. Yesterday Parise was having exploratory arthroscopic surgery when the tear was discovered, and stitched back together. Anton Volchenkov could return to the Devils lineup on Friday. Volchenkov has been out since Oct. 9th with a broken nose and stiff neck.

James Mirtle of the Globe and Mail: Toronto Maple Leafs captain left the ACC on a stretcher last night after having his leg seriously cut. Ron Wilson said,  “It was deep enough that they wanted to take him to the hospital to determine the extent of the injury. That’s the last I heard.” Elisha Cuthbert via twitter: Dion’s “getting it treated & fixed up, but he will need to miss a few games :( “. Cuthbert added, “…I suppose I should say will MOST LIKELY miss a few games. With that diehard, even I never know for sure.” On the positive side of thing for the Maple Leafs, they finally scored. Their slump only lasted 167 minutes and 39 seconds, longest since Dec. 1927.

Helene Elliott of the LA Times: Drew Doughty was cleared last night to resume all hockey activities. The Kings will likely activate him from the IR today, and be in the lineup tomorrow versus the Lightning. The Kings will also get Scott Parse back, who’ll be making his season debut after injuring his foot and groin in training camp. Parse found himself on a line with Anze Kopitar and Dustin Brown. Jarrett Stoll was center Ryan Smyth and Justin Williams. The Kings will have to decide this week what to do with Brayden Schenn and Kyle Clifford. Schenn has played 8 games, while Clifford has been in 7.

Josh Cooper of the Tennessean: Agent Don Meehan met with Predators GM David Poille last week to discuss Shea Weber and a few others. With regards Weber, “There is a time and a place where we will get a little more serious about nego­tia­tions. I’m not sure when that’s going to be,” Poile said. “We just have an ongoing situa­tion. Timing is not cri­ti­cal right now, but we’ll see what happens.” The Preds would like to keep Weber long term, and will meet with Meehan again in Toronto when the team plays the Maple Leafs on Nov. 16th.

Eric Stephens of the OC Register: The Anaheim Ducks said yesterday that 2010 1st round pick, Cam Fowler, will be staying with the club for the time being. Center Kyle Chipchura suffered a concussion on Saturday

Helene Elliott of the LA Times: The Ducks are 14 in the Western Conference, play the next 3 games at home (5 of next 6), but coach Randy Carlyle may not be on the hotseat. GM Bob Murray, “critical for a lot of people, but not for Randy.” He added, “Our coaching is fine. He’s a good coach. It’s not the coach who’s doing some of the things that are happening out there. It’s not the coach taking stupid penalties. It’s not the coach losing faceoffs in our own zone and then not taking their guy.”

Adrian Dater of the Denver Post: Concussed Colorado Avalanche forward Peter Mueller should play again this season. After talking with “People Who Would Know”, Dater thinks Mueller may return around Christmas times. Craig Anderson skated yesterday, with Dater thinking it will be another 2-3 weeks before he returns. Dater also noted the other day that Kyle Cuminsky is out with a concussion as well.

David Pollak of the San Jose Mercury News: Torrey Mitchell moved up to the 2nd line, while Devin Setoguchi moved down to the 3rd line. Mitchell joins Ryane Clowe and Joe Pavelski. Setoguchi joins Logan Couture and Jamie McGinn.

Around the Boards: Chicago signings, Rafalski’s bad back, Pietrangelo to WJC, Chipchura traded

  • Tim Sassone of the Daily Herald: With the signings of Toews, Kane, and Keith being announced today, their cap number for next season sits approximately at $60.5 million for 15 players. There were rumors yesterday that the ‘Hawks will either waive or trade Brent Sopel. More than just getting rid of Sopel’s salary will need to happen, as they need to shed about $3.7 million worth of salary. Cam Barker could also be on the move, though they would like to keep him.
  • Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press: Brian Rafalski left yesterday’s practice with tightness in his back. The Red Wings have called up 2005 1st round pick Jakub Kindl in case Rafalski can’t go.
  • Jeremy Rutherford of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch: The Blues have been unsure what to do with Alex Pietrangelo, he’s been a healthy scratch for most of the season, and is close to having a year of his contract burned, but now they have found their solution, The World Juniors.
  • Steve Zipay of Newsday: The New York Rangers claimed Erik Christensen off waivers, sent backup goalie Steve Valiquette to the minors, and recalled goalie Chad Johnson.
  • Curtis Zupke of the OC Register: The Anaheim Ducks traded for former Montreal Canadiens 1st round pick, Kyle Chipchura for a 4th round pick in 2011. Ducks GM Bob Murray says no other deals are imminent.

  • From the RDS, through translation: Ilya Kovalchuk could be close to signing a 9 year deal with the Thrashers for more than $100 million, averaging $11.3 million per season. We’ll write a separate blog to comment on this.
  • James Murphy of NESN: If the Thrashers are unable to sign Kovalchuk, the Bruins might be a fit. The trading of Kobasew and the with Lucic and Savard on the IR, it has saved the club some much valued cap space. They also have lot of draft picks to dangle.
  • Elliotte Friedman of CBCSports.ca: Has Jaroslav Halak taken over the goalie of the future for the Canadiens? Are the Canadiens playing Halak more lately in an attempt to motivate Price.
  • A quote mentioned in the Friedman’s blog (link above) … Ilya Bryzgalov on being named NHL first star of the week. “I don’t care,” according to the Arizona Republic. “I don’t like to run in front of the train because the train at some point can run over you.”
  • Jason Hendricks of HendricksHockey.com: From one the Hockey Insiders sources, the Canadiens and Oilers could be looking a trade. The Oilers like Tomas Plekanec, Andrei Kostitsyn, and Kyle Chipchura. The Canadiens like Tom Gilbert, Denis Grebeshkov, & J.F. Jacques.
  • Damien Cox of the Toronto Star: There is a chance the Maple Leafs may look to trade Tomas Kaberle again. Dallas and Boston will be mentioned again as possible destinations.
  • Wayne Fish of the Bucks County Courier Times (via Phillyburbs): Surgery was recommended for Simon Gagne’s 2 sports hernias, so he’s seeking a second opinion, though it sounds like surgery is the only option to fix the problem.
  • Tampa Bay Tribune: A potential buyer for the Tampa Bay Lightning, Jeff Greene, is no longer interested in buying the club. So this leaves 2 Florida franchises that are having trouble finding an owner.
