Anaheim Ducks rumors involving Getzlaf, Ryan and others … Leafs would have to be interested in Getzlaf

- Damien Cox via twitter: “Problem with ANA rumblings is GM Murray seems to say one thing publicly, but something very different to other teams.”
- David Staples of the Edmonton Journal: Staples thinks the Oilers should look at Corey Perry and Ryan Getzlaf, more Getzlaf than Perry. He doesn’t think the Ducks would take Ales Hemsky, Sam Gagner and a few prospects. Would the Oilers throw in “Linus Omark or a Magnus Paajarvi or a Jeff Petry or a Teemu Hartikainen or a few of them?” Staples thinks a Cam Fowler for Sam Gagner deal might make sense for either team, but they should look for “a finished product, not a work in progress.” The Oilers could look to pick up a Matt Smaby or Mark Fraser as a stopgap defenseman from the Ducks.
- Kevin Paul Dupont via twitter: Dupont figured it would be Bobby Ryan out of Anaheim before Ryan Getzlaf. Idea of moving Getzlaf and leaving Perry kind of feels like the Canucks trading one of the Sedins.
- Luke DeCock via twitter: DeCock doesn’t see a fit as the Hurricanes ‘core players’ include Staal, Ward, Skinner, maybe Sutter/Faulk. See what DeCock was referring to below.
- BD Gallof via twitter: For Islanders fans thinking Perry or Getzlaf, think Moulson or Okposo, Niederreiter or Strome, plus a prospect and draft pick. The price for established players is costly. Whatever players are on the block, Islanders fans should realize they are not in that market.
- Dennis Bernstein via twitter: Ducks coach Bruce Boudreau has to be the biggest loser in the Ducks trade talk as he now has to motivate 21 of 23 players who are now traded bait.

- Eric Stephens via twitter: Ducks GM Bob Murray isn’t ready to give up on this season just yet.
“At this point, no,” Murray said Wednesday before the Ducks’ home game against San Jose. “I’m not ready to. First of all, we do have a lot of really good core players. Everybody in hockey knows we have good core players.”
Teams are calling Murray, and he is listening. Both Teemu Selanne and Saku Koivu have no-trade clauses, and Murray doesn’t want to trade them. Corey Perry and Cam Fowler are likely untouchable. Ryan Getzlaf, Bobby Ryan and Jonas Hiller could be up for discussion if the team doesn’t improve. Murray said he isn’t just looking for draft picks if he were to deal someone.
“I still believe we have some core players. Now whether we have to change a few core players, so be it. They’re deciding who’s staying and who’s not staying at this point. They’re the ones deciding.”
- Damien Cox of the Toronto Star: You have to believe that the Maple Leafs would be interested in Ryan Getzlaf. He’s the type of player Burke has been after since he got to Toronto. Rumblings suggest that GM Murray would rather move Ryan over Getzlaf. According to Cox, “the Leafs don’t see a fit with Ryan.” Burke may be setting up for a deal as he sent Phillipe Dupuis to the minors and put Colton Orr on waivers yesterday, though they have injured players who may be close in Tyler Bozak, Mike Komisarek, Colby Armstrong, Mike Brown and John-Michael Liles. When the Leafs were inquiring about Mike Richards in the summer, they were believed to be asked for a package involving Luke Schenn and Nazem Kadri. The Leafs don’t have a #1 center to send the Ducks, but could offer Bozak or possibly Joe Colborne. Giving up both Kadri and Colborne seems unlikely. Defenseman Carl Gunnarson could also come into play. Getzlaf will be UFA after next season.
- Luke DeCock via twitter: On the possible availability of Ryan and others …. DeCock desn’t know if there is a fit with Hurricanes in what they have to offer as GM Murray may be wanting a core player back.
- Joe Yerdon via twitter: One of the Ducks issues this season is the lack of depth. They are thin outside their top 6, and their blue line is a mish-mash of young and old. Trading Getzlaf could definitely improve their depth with players who are ready for the NHL. Trading a player with a ton a talent may not be a thing that Murray wants to do.

- Craig Custance of ESPN: Teams are closing in on the point where they know what they have and what they may need. Blue GM Doug Armstrong:
“A lot of groundwork has been laid and (Tuesday) was more putting fertilizer on some of those seeds you planted to see what happens. You get more work done when you’re in the room with 30 people than trying to pick up the phone 30 different times.”
Calgary Flames GM Jay Feaster:
“We have a lot of work to do,” Flames GM Jay Feaster said. “We’re not happy where we are. We need to improve in a lot of areas. This isn’t acceptable to be where we are right now.”
The Hurricanes are 1-5-0 in their last 6 and are in need of a shakeup. The Islanders have dropped to last in the Eastern Conference. The Jets may be thinking long-term and have 2 UFA’s in Chris Mason and Johnny Oduya. Jets GM Kevin Cheveldayoff:
“I’m not a big believer on putting deadlines on anything,” he said. “You make decisions based on what the right timing is for you. The league puts a lot of deadlines on you for signing guys or trading deadlines, so you certainly have parameters. But I’m not going to put any deadlines on it.”
- Pierre LeBrun of ESPN: The NHL board of governors will vote on realignment at the Dec. 5th-6th meetings. The Wings would like to move to the Eastern Conference, or at least play home-and-homes with the other Conference. Western Conference teams don’t want to see the Red Wings move to the East. Coyotes GM Don Maloney reiterated his stance with Kyle Turris.
“For the 15-hundredth time, we have no intention of trading him, regardless of the offer, at all whatsoever,” Maloney told ESPN.com.
Turris has 1 and 2 year offers from the Coyotes sitting on the table. The Blue Jackets have intensified their efforts to get a goalie. Antero Niittymaki won’t be back for another 3-4 weeks, but could be on the move at some point. Teams have inquired to see if he’s available.
- The Fourth Period: The LA Kings and NJ Devils maybe talking trade, they are both scouting each other. The Devils have been interested in Jonathan Bernier in the past, but sources close to the Kings have said they are not interested in trading Bernier at this moment, unless blown away by an offer. The Devils may also be looking for some scoring help, but that help likely isn’t coming from the Kings, unless they are interested in Dustin Penner. Dustin Brown and Jack Johnson could be trade candidates as well.
- Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal: Matheson notes the Predators have positioned themselves well to retain both Ryan Suter and Shea Weber. They may be able to get Suter in the 7 years for $49 million range and Weber for 6 or 5 years at $7.5 million. Matheson doesn’t see them trading either defenseman and wouldn’t be surprised if Alexander Radulov returns to Nashville next season. Matheson also thinks that if Linus Omark isn’t called up in the next month, he’ll head back to Europe.
- James Murphy via twitter: Murphy calls the Rask for Nash rumors bogus and comical.
- Joe Haggerty via twitter: Haggerty thinks that David Krejci could be the odd guy out in Boston with Bergeron and Seguin down the middle. The Bruins aren’t sure he’s a $5 million a year guy.
- Slava Malamud via twitter: CSKA of the KHL is working on a loan with the Senators regarding Nikita Filatov.
- Terry Koshan of the Toronto Sun: Maple Leafs GM Brian Burke has said again that he is not interested in Marty Turco. Names on Burke’s radar could be Scott Clemmensen (FLA), Evgeni Nabokov (NYI) and Antero Niittymaki (SJ). Saturday will mark 4 weeks since James Reimer has hit by Brian Gionta. Ben Scrivens will start tonight, marking his 6th start in the last 7 games.
- Dennis Bernstein via twitter: Bernstein wonders if it’s time for the Trent Hunter experiment in LA to end, and to bring up a young speedy forward.
- Tim Sassone via twitter: If Blackhawks Rostislav Olesz is sent to the minors, they’ll have $6.95 million in cap space. Plenty of room for a center and/or a power play QB.

- Pierre LeBrun of ESPN: Carey Price will be a RFA on July 1st. There haven’t been any talks yet, but there will before the offseason. 6 NHL team executives don’t think Predators will be able to sign both Ryan Suter and Shea Weber. GM David Poile told ESPN that ownership gave him the “financial green light” to get all of them signed to “fair-market value” deals. Now it just depends what the players think fair-market value is. LeBrun wouldn’t be shocked if Suter was looking for something in the $6.5 to $7 million range. The Carolina Hurricanes join the Maple Leafs as a team that may be looking to move a defenseman. Though it’s not known who they are looking to move, Bryan Allen will be a UFA at the end of the season.
- Scott Burnside of ESPN: Burnside hacks the Blue Jackets down calling them bad from “top to bottom, from bottom to top.” He calls Steve Mason the worst starting goalie in the league. The could fire coach Scott Arniel, and they could bring back Ken Hitchcock who is still under contract. Some flaws on how this team was built are: Mason has another year at $2.9 million. Antoine Vermette is owed $3.75 million until the end of 2014-15 (he hasn’t scored this season). Derick Brassard makes $3.2 million and has 3 points. Marc Methot makes $3 million for 3 more years. Nikita Filatov was a bust of a pick for them, passing over drafting Tyler Myers, Erik Karlsson or John Carlson.
- Andy Strickland of True Hockey: With Penguins being deep down the middle, they may be looking to move one of their centers in the near future. They have had conversations with multiple teams about Mark Letestu. Josh Yohe via twitter: Yohe adds to Strickland’s report by adding that it wouldn’t shock him and that Letestu looks lost right now.
- Ben Kuzma of the Vancouver Province: Cancucks forward Alex Burrows left in the 2nd period of last night’s game with back spasms after he was checked from behind by Chris Stewart. He’s listed as day-to-day.
- Joanne Ireland of the Edmonton Journal: Oilers forward Linus Omark has an out clause in his contract that allows him to return to Europe if he’s playing in the AHL.
“I want to play (in the) NHL and if no one lets me do that then I’m going to go to Europe,” Omark told Gibbons after practice. “I take it one day at a time and we’ll see after that.”
“(The Oilers) have a lot of young guys,” Omark said. “And they believe in them more than me, I think. I want to play in the NHL, so I am going to do my best there. Hopefully, they call me up or … Yeah, we’ll see.
“I’m not here to stay the whole season, that’s for sure.”
- Larry Brooks of the NY Post: Rangers forward Sean Avery will get into the lineup for injured Mike Rupp, who will have arthroscopic surgery on his left knee. Avery will likely be on the wing with Brian Boyle and Brandon Prust. Ruslan Fedotenko will likely be with Derek Stepan and Marian Gaborik. Renaud Lavoie via twitter: Rupp will be out 3 to 4 weeks.
- David Pollak of the San Jose Mercury News: Sharks leading scorer Joe Pavelski was given yesterday off as he’s been battling a flu that has already hit Patrick Marleau and Dan Boyle. Coach Todd McLellan expects him to play on Saturday. McLellan also wouldn’t rule out Thomas Greiss starting in net tonight against the Predators.
- Katie Carrera of the Washington Post: Capitals defenseman Mike Green staked for an hour yesterday morning, which was the longest he’s gone since he injured his ankle on Oct. 22nd.
- Bruce Garrioch via twitter: Only Dallas and Minnesota had people in to watch the Senators and Canadiens last night.

- Scott Cruickshank of the Calgary Herald: It’s no secret that the Flames and Senators have shown interest in Kyle Turris. Cruickshank wonders exactly how much talent does he have? He had only 25 points in 65 games last year. He is still young, and was the 3rd overall pick in 2007. If the Flames were to win the bidding war for him, what if they give him Matt Stajan money and he turn out to be Matt Stajan. If they were to get him, they would have a nice young core up the middle with Turris, 22, and Mikael Backlund, 22, and Roman Horak, 20. What the cost would be is the big question?
- Mark Spector of Sportsnet: Flames GM Jay Feaster said he’s not doing a full rebuild in Calgary and won’t subject fans to having a team finish at the bottom of the standings for several years. Word is that he’s been shopping Rene Bourque and is interested in Turris.
- David Staple of the Edmonton Journal: Staples take on the Sam Gagner trade rumors. With the emergence of several defenseman, the need of an upgrade along the blueline is not that pressing at the moment. They appear to have 4 capable blueliners, even without Ryan Whitney. By the trade deadline, the Oilers may have to move someone, either Ales Hemsky, Gagner or Linus Omark. Other wingers haven’t solidified themselves as long term Oilers/top line NHLers: Ryan Smyth (UFA at seasons end), Ryan Jones and Magnus Paajarvi. There is no rush for the Oilers to rush into a deal. They need to see if Smyth and Hemsky can stay healthy, if Gagner can pick it up, and if Omark and Paajarvi can put up points in the NHL.
- Adrian Dater of the Denver Post: Though it’s hard to forecast ahead, Dater thinks the Avs could spend some of their cap space on the right rental player.
- Nick Kypreos via twitter: Sabres forward Patrick Kaleta will have a hearing at 1:00 pm today for an incident in the 1st period of last night’s game.
- Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch: Jeff Carter will travel with the team to Philadelphia this weekend, but won’t play. Kristian Huselius practiced in a no-contact jersey yesterday for the 1st time since he torn his chest muscle in July. He’s still weeks away. Winger Jared Boll is also weeks away.
- Katie Carrera of the Washington Post: Capitals defenseman Mike Green had an apparent setback yesterday as he wasn’t able to skate for more than 10 minutes. He’s doubtful for Friday, and has missed 3 games so far.
“If I feel good I’ll play,” Green said. “It’s day to day. I wake up each day, it feels a little bit better, tomorrow could be a lot better than today.
“It’s just one of the things, with your ankles and the skate,” Green added. “If I can’t skate, I cant play. The swelling stayed down; it’s just a matter of getting it strong and comfortable enough to play. I figure in the next couple days it should be strong and we can go from there.”
- Tom Gulitti of the Bergon Record: Johan Hedberg will start in net for the Devils tonight against the Flyers.
- Dan Murphy via twitter: Cory Schneider will start in net for the Canucks tonight against Josh Harding and the Wild.

- Pierre LeBrun of ESPN: The Flames are “very, very interested” in Coyotes RFA Kyle Turris, checking in on the situation each week, holding discussions with both the Coyotes and Turris’ agent Kurt Overhardt. Coyotes GM Don Maloney is adamant that they won’t trade him while he remains unsigned. The Flames can’t sign Turris to an offer sheet as they don’t have their 2nd round pick. Bob McKenzie said that the Senators are also interested in Turris, and have been told the same thing by Maloney. The Maple Leafs have also shown interest, though not as much as the Flames and Senators.The New York Rangers have been calling the Maple Leafs. Defenseman Cody Franson may be available in Toronto. One decision the Leafs face is do they break up the equilibrium in the dressing room by making a deal or do they wait until later?Ryan Suter’s agent will be in Nashville in 2 weeks time and will be discussing contract extension with them. Predators GM David Poile said that he talked with Pekka Rinne’s agent on Monday. Shea Weber’s agent said there hasn’t really been any contract talks since the summer. Weber isn’t able to sign a deal until after January 1st. LeBrun thinks Weber could be waiting to see what happens with Suter and Rinne before he decides what to do. “I know these guys all want to sign here,’’ Poile said. “But it’s just a matter of getting it done. The better we do on the ice, I think the better chance we have of signing them.’’ If Suter or Weber comes available, the Red Wings will likely be in on them.
- Bruce McCurdy of the Edmonton Journal: The Oilers have sent Linus Omark to the AHL. The Oilers basically have 3 ‘top 6′ type players battling for 1 spot on a top line. Sam Gagner has potential. Ales Hemsky is getting closer to returning. Their may not be room for Omark to crack a top line, so he might be moved out at some point.
- Pat Hickey of the Montreal Gazette: Canadiens defenseman Andrei Markov skated yesterday, but there is no timetable for his return. Coach Jacques Martin said it’s impossible to speculate when Markov could return until he starts practicing with teammates. Center Scott Gomez also skated on his own, but won’t be ready for this weekend’s games.
- Dan Murphy via twitter: Flyers defenseman Chris Pronger will skate by himself for 15-20 minutes today.
- Jonas Siegel via twitter: Maple Leafs coach Ron Wilson remain unsure of James Reimer’s status for this week. He’ll skate this morning and they’ll go from there.
- Chip Alexander via twitter: Hurricanes Jussi Jokinen was ‘upright’ and is day-to-day, “It’s nothing catastrophic” according to coach Paul Maurice. Jeff Skinner could be moved back to center. Replays show Jokinen twisting his left leg while falling over Ryan Shannon.
- Mike Heika of the Dallas Morning News: Stars forwards Steve Ott and Jamie Benn missed practiced yesterday. Benn should be back, but Ott is questionable for Friday.
- The Globe and Mail: Martin Brodeur could be in net for the Devils. The Devils haven’t said if Brodeur or Johan Hedberg will start.

- Mike Brophy of Sportsnet: Maple Leafs center Mikhail Grabovski is in the final year of his contract where he earns $3.1 million, with a $2.9 million cap hit. Grabovski could easily command $4 – 4.5 million deal for 5 or 6 years. Phillippe Dupuis, John-Michael Liles and Jonas Gustavson will also be UFAs.
“It depends on if he wants to stay in Toronto or if he wants to test the market and go to the highest bidder,” said one agent. “If he stays in Toronto he’ll probably take a little less than what he could get if he goes to another team.”
- Pierre LeBrun via twitter: If Sean Avery is claimed off re-entry waivers, the new team would owe him 25%, the Rangers 25% and the Stars 50%.
- Elliotte Freidman of CBC Sports: There were rumors that the Stars may be looking to trade Brendan Morrow, but he has a no-trade clause, and hasn’t been asked to waive it as of yet.
- Mark Everson of the NY Post: The Oilers have a glut of centers and have moved Sam Gagner to the wing. The Devils are thin down the middle at the moment and may have already asked the Oilers about Gagner. The Oilers would reportedly want a young defensive prospect in return, possibly Matt Taormina or Alexander Urbom. They may also require a roster winger and draft pick.
- Alan Robinson in the Globe and Mail: Penguins captain Sidney Crosby ruled himself out for this weeks games. November 11th is likely the earliest he’d return. He won’t be cleared for game action until doctors feel he can handle contact during practice. There hasn’t been much practice time for the Penguins lately.
“It’s not just an automatic thing,” Crosby said. “To go through hitting is a big step. I just want to make sure I get through that. It’s the most important thing — however long that takes. I don’t want to get too far ahead. I just want to make sure it goes well and (I) give myself the best chance to handle it.”
- Chris Kuc via twitter: Blackhawks defenseman Duncan Keith is listed as day-to-day with an upper body injury.
- John Vogl of the Buffalo News: The Sabres have put Jochen Hecht on the IR.
“We’ve shut Jochen down at different times,” Ruff said. “If the doctors feel it’s best to shut him down for a period of time, we’ll shut him down. It’s really in their hands. It isn’t up to our medical staff, and it isn’t up to Jochen. We’re under some guidance, and we’ve got to trust what our people are telling us.”
- Damian Cristodero of the St. Petersburg Times: Lightning forward Ryan Malone had X-rays on his upper body injury after Saturday’s game against the Jets, which were negative. He’s day-to-day and may not play tonight against the Hurricanes.
- Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal: Oilers forward Ales Hemsky could return in a week, and the Oilers will have to figure out what to do with Linus Omark, who’s been a healthy scratch for 5 consecutive games. He would have to clear waivers since he’s played over 60 games. The Hurricanes are looking for forwards.
- Gary Lawless of the Winnipeg Free Press: Jets defenseman Tobias Enstrom was hit in the 2nd period by Panthers Jack Skille and didn’t return for the 3rd period.

- Ken Warren of the Ottawa Citizen: Alexei Kovalev feels that coach he’s being picked on by coach Cory Clouston with his demotion to the 4th line,
“That’s the way it looks right now,” he said. I’m not the only one not playing well, so nothing I can do about it. He decides to pick me. It has been happening all my career.”
He’s not sure why he’s being criticized for his play,
“I just don’t understand, because sometimes when you start playing well and everything goes well and then starts the brain-picking again. I don’t know why it keeps happening. Why don’t they just let me play the way I can? I don’t know if it’s some kind of jealousy or something else, I have no idea. I’ve been asking that question all my career and it just keeps happening.”
- Rebekah Sanders of the Arizona Republic: The city of Glendale and Matthew Hulsizer have reached an agreement, and it will go to City Council vote on Tuesday. Glendale would give $197 million of 5 years (the arena cost less than $197 million to build), $100 would be upfront and Hulsizer would use it to off-set the $170 million cost to buy the team. Glendale will take over the 5,500 parking spots around the arena and charge a fee to help (along with other things) cover the remaining $97 million over 5 years. There are several ‘agrees to’ for both sides that are worth checking out, such as to attempt to rename to Arizona Coyotes and to keep the team there for 23 years.
- Spector’s Hockey: He’s hearing that Marco Sturm could be dealt to the LA Kings today.
- Sam Kasan of NHL.com: Penguins coach Dan Bylsma had this to say about the report that Jordan Staal had another broken bone in his hand,
“If you’re referencing an internet report that said there was another break, then that is not true,” Bylsma said. “He’s continuing on the same course. He has the pin out. There is calcification and we have another scheduled x-ray. We hope to continue seeing the healing that is taken place. He’s on that rehab program.”
- Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch: The Columbus Blue Jackets have sent struggling forward Nikita Filatov to the minors. In 23 games Filatov has no goals, 7 assists and only 31 shot.
- Adrian Dater of the Denver Post: Milan Hejduk scored that game winning goal last night, but left shortly after with a groin pull. They’ll no more on the extent of the injury today as groin injuries usually worse after the first 24 hours.
- Terry Koshan and Lance Hornby of the Toronto Sun: Maple Leafs defenseman Mike Komisarek will be out 7 – 10 days, “He got tangled up in one of the scuffles and hurt his fingers,” coach Ron Wilson said.
- Shelly Anderson of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: The Pittsburgh Penguins have called up AHL scoring leader (13 goals and 17 assists in 25 games) Dustin Jeffery.
- Bob McKenzie via twitter: NJ Devils Gionta and Magnan cleared waivers yesterday. The Blues put Chris Porter on waivers.
- Linus Omark shootout goal is his first NHL game. Reactions from Damian Cristodero’s article: “A … joke,” left wing Ryan Malone said. Asked if it was disrespectful, defenseman Mattias Ohlund said, “Absolutely.” “It’s embarrassing for him,” Ellis said. “You come into a league, a respectful league like this, and you try a little move like that. It’s not a very classy thing. That’s just the kind of person he is.”

- Tim Sassone of the Daily Herald: Patrick Kane will be out the Chicago Blackhawks lineup for about 3 weeks with a sprained ankle. “We’re going to leave it as a lower body (injury), but I think you can speculate what it is. Certainly that’s the extent of it and he’s progressing right now.”
- Pierre LeBrun of ESPN: If the Stars decide to move Brad Richards at the trade deadline “it’s only because (1) they weren’t able to sign him to an extension and (2) they’re offered the kind of deal that sets them up “for the next five years.” The Sharks continue to look for a top 4 defenseman. - Joanne Ireland of the Edmonton Journal: Oilers center Shawn Horcoff felt his knee ‘pop’ after colliding with Corey Perry. Coach Tom Renney guesses he could be out 8 weeks. Horcoff will have an MRI done today, he does have a damaged MCL. They could call up one of Linus Omark, Liam Reddox or Ryan O’Marra.
- Helene Elliott via twitter: Alexei Ponikarovsky (fractured finger) said he’ll be ready to go on Thursday vs. the Flames.
- Rich Hammond of LA Kings Insider: LA Kings defenseman Willie Mitchell is getting closer to returning, as he practiced yesterday without his wrist brace. Mitchell will be examined on Thursday and will look to get clearance. Ponikarovsky was pronounced ready to return by Terry Murray and will be on the left side of Michal Handzus and Wayne Simmons.

- The League and Players will be voting on whether to fast-track new head-shot rules, which will most likely happen. Francois Beauchemin said to ESPN, “But I wish the league would have taken care of this last summer like we [the players] had asked them to,”.
- The Ice Edge Group, which signed a letter of intent to buy the Coyotes, may not be front runners anymore to buy them. Jerry Reinsdorf could be back in the mix. Relocation may enter into the picture if a local owner isn’t found by May.
- Mike Cammalleri should return to the Canadiens lineup later this week.
- Matheson thinks the Oilers should trade prospect Linus Omark for the best draft pick they can get.
- The Red Wings might go after European FA, Mats Zuccarello-Aasen, offering a 2-way contract that has an out to return to Sweden if he doesn’t make the big club or like the AHL.
- Raffi Torres has no goals in 7 games since being traded to the Sabres. “I’ve been terrible; all I’ve done is given them a little bit of physical play,” said Torres.
