- Kevin Allen via twitter: Ducks defenseman Lubomir Visnovsky will out 4 weeks with a broken finger. Curtis Zupke via twitter: The Ducks aren’t expected to make any moves today. Kurtis Foster has been their 7th defenseman.
- Eric Francis via twitter: The Flames have put Niklas Hagman on re-waivers. Have to wait until 10 am on Monday to find out if anyone has claimed him. (He has a $3 million cap hit, he can be had for $1.5 million).
- Mark Stepneski via twitter: Alex Goligoski has a broken thumb and is out about 4 weeks.
- Katie Carrera via twitter: Capitals defenseman Mike Green will not be in the lineup tonight. Alexander Semin will play.
- Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch: Blue Jackets forward Jeff Carter will return tonight. Goaltender Mark Dekanich suffered a groin injury and could be out weeks. GM Scott Howson said they are not actively pursuing a goaltender. Evgeni Nabokov is a name they might consider. Joe Yerdon of Pro Hockey Talk: The Jackets could also call the Panthers about Scott Clemmensen or pursue free agent Marty Turco.
- Aaron Portzline via twitter: Blue Jackets lines: Nash – Carter – Umberger; Prospal – Letestu – Johansen; Vermette – Pahlsson – Dorsett; Calvert – MacKenzie – Boll. Steve Mason will start in net with Allen York as his backup.

- Chris Botta via twitter: Evgeni Nabokov is dying to leave the Islanders. The Islanders are dying to get down to 2 goalies. His family is still in California.
- Katie Strang via twitter: As of 9 am this morning, Evgeni Nabokov hasn’t been asked to waive his no-trade clause.
- Aaron Portzline via twitter: It’s looking like no further trades are imminent for the Blue Jackets. They are in talks that could lead to further moves. “The fact that GM Scott Howson is in driver’s seat making deals can be seen as an indication that management is still firmly behind him.”

- Chris Botta via twitter: Devils goalie Martin Brodeur will be out 7-10 days as he rehabs his shoulder.
- Steve MacFarlane of the Calgary Sun: Flames GM Jay Feaster declines to comment on trade rumors involving his team. In the past he has said that anyone not named Iginla, Kiprusoff, Giordano and maybe Glencross are fair game. Rene Bourque’s name has come up recently. He carries a $3.33 million cap hit for this year and the next 4 years, and has a modified no-trade clause. They may be better off to keep him unless they can get a something that would help the team now and in the future. Matt Stajan, Niklas Hagman and Olli Jokinen have also been in the rumors, but Jokinen has been one of their more consistent forwards so far.
- Fluto Shinzawa of the Boston Globe: Tyler Seguin found himself on the top line at yesterday’s Bruins practice: Milan Lucic-Chris Kelly-Tyler Seguin, Brad Marchand-Patrice Bergeron-Nathan Horton, Jordan Caron-David Krejci/Rich Peverley-Benoit Pouliot, Daniel Paille-Gregory Campbell-Shawn Thornton.
- David Shoalts of the Globe and Mail: Jets rookie Mark Scheifele scored his first NHL goal last night against the Maple Leafs, but the decision on whether to send him to back to junior or keep him up for the year is fast approaching. Next Thursday will likely mark his 9th game, if he plays 10, he can’t go back. There are indications that the Jets don’t want to rush him along, so he may end up back with Barrie.
- Tim Panaccio of CSN Philly: After recalling Brayden Schenn yesterday, the Flyers are extremely close to the salary cap ceiling. At some point they are going to have to shed some major salary if they want to have some flexibility at the trade deadline.
- Larry Brooks via twitter: Wojtek Wolski is in the final year of his deal, he carries $3.8 million cap hit, and appears to “becoming an unmistakable object of derision by coach John Tortorella.” Wolski has been out for 3 games with a groin issue. When Tortorella was asked if Wolski would be in against the Flames, Torts responded: “We can’t get him out of the tub.” When asked if it was part of treatment for the groin, he responded: “I guess.” Marty Biron might get the start tonight.

- Lisa Dillman of the LA Times: Kings forward Dustin Penner left practice early yesterday and was to have his injured knee examined. Penner bruised his knee when he fought Zac Rinaldo, who had laid out Drew Doughty with a hard check.
- Jim Jamieson of the Vancouver Province: With center Ryan Kesler scheduled to return to the Canucks lineup tonight, Cody Hodgson finds himself moved over to right wing on a line with Kesler and Chris Higgins.
- Mike Zeisberger of the Toronto Sun: 17 teams were scouting the Maple Leafs – Avalanche game last night, including: “Bruins, Stars, Panthers, Blue Jackets, Oilers, Canucks, Islanders, Jets, Ducks, Lightning, Coyotes, Rangers, Predators, Capitals, Hurricanes, Canadiens and Senators.” One Maple Leaf executive on TV reports that the Leafs were interested in Stars Brendan Morrow, “Where do (they) get this stuff?”
- Ben Meyer-Abbott of the Chicago Sun-Times: The Blackhawks are hopeful that Marian Hossa will be able to go tonight against the Coyotes. He missed Friday’s practice, Saturday’s game, and yesterday’s practice with an upper body injury.
- Pat Hickey of the Montreal Gazette: Canadiens forward Mike Cammalleri could be back in the lineup on Thursday against the Penguins. Defenseman Jaroslav Spacek could be out 10-14 days with bruised ribs.
- Sam Carchidi of the Philadelphia Inquirer: Sergei Bobrovsky could get his first start of the season tonight against the Senators. A final decision won’t be made until after the morning skate. Barring an injury, Bobrovsky is expected to play about 20 games this year.
- Miguel Rodriguez of the Buffalo News: There isn’t a guarantee that Marc-Andre Gragnani will play in his hometown against the Canadiens according to Sabres Lindy Ruff. Jochen Hecht was cleared for contact last week after suffering a concussion in training camp, but the Sabres are taking a cautious approach with him.
- Helene Elliott via twitter: (after taking a puck to the head last night) Ducks TV announcers said that Francois Beauchemin had a compression cut above his eye, and that his shield likely saved his eye.
- Eric Stephens of the OC Register: Ducks defenseman Kurtis Foster has completed his AHL conditioning assignment. His goal is to show Randy Carlyle that he’s ready for Friday.
- Scott Cruickshank of the Calgary Herald: Flames center Brendan Morrison is ready to return to the lineup and was centering a line with Niklas Hagman and Rene Bourque at yesterday’s practice.
- Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal: Matheson thinks that Ryan Nugent-Hopkins will score between 20 and 25 goals this year.

- Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun: 2 league sources are saying that the Flames GM Jay Feaster is desperately trying to move contracts off their books. The Flames may be shopping Matt Stajan, Niklas Hagman and David Moss, but it may be tough finding someone wanting those contract. Stajan has 3 years left on his 4 year, $14 million deal. Ollie Jokinen, Hagman and Moss could be deadline rentals. Despite having the 5th highest payroll, Blue Jackets GM Scott Howson could be on the hotseat. A league executive, “There’s actually a lot of teams talking for this time of year. I don’t think you’re going to see anything shake down until the end of the month.” Maple Leafs GM Brian Burke is checking out interest in Carl Gunnarson and Tyler Bozak. The Leafs would like to make room for defenseman Keith Aulie and they don’t plan on sending Jake Gardiner to the minors. Canucks GM Mike Gillis has been working the phones looking to move a defenseman, possibly Keith Ballard, and not goalie. One league executive hasn’t heard Kyle Turris’ name mentioned in trade talks.
- Eric Stephens of the OC Register: Ducks winger Jason Blake could be out 3 months after suffering a lacerated tendon just above his wrist. He will have surgery on Monday.
- Helene Elliott of the LA Times: Kings defenseman Drew Doughty will be out 7 to 10 days with an upper-body injury. Kings GM Dean Lombardi said it didn’t involve Doughty’s head.
- Erik Erlendsson of the Tampa Tribune: The Lightning will have to decide soon if they want to burn a contract year with 2010 1st round pick Brentt Connolly. Connolly has played in 5 games so far, they play their 10th game on Oct. 27th.
- Eric Francis of the Calgary Sun: Hockey Canada president Bob Nicholson would like to see the NHL entry draft switch the drafting age from 18 to 19, “For the most part, 18- and 19-year-old players are not close to being ready for the NHL. If the draft goes back a year, it slows down the process at every level. Right now, everyone is on a treadmill to get there.” Only 6% of 18 year olds play in the NHL the year they are draft.
- Adrian Dater of the Denver Post: Avalanche forward Peter Mueller is listed as day-to-day and is skating, but the Avs have contected a concussion expert who has dealt with Mueller in the past.
- John Shannon via twitter: Oilers Ales Hemsky will be out 3 to 4 weeks with a strained shoulder.
- Jeremy Rutherford via twitter: The Blues will update Andy McDonald’s status on Monday. Andy Strickland via twitter: Initially prognosis doesn’t look great and Stickland wouldn’t be shocked if he’s put on the IR.

- Larry Fine in the Globe and Mail: Sidney Crosby has begun on-ice workouts. Crosby has been training in Halifax, Nova Scotia. It’s still unknown if he’ll be ready for training camp, and he hasn’t been given clearance by doctors for physical contact.
- Adam Jahns of the Chicago Sun-Times: Patrick Kane will require surgery on his left wrist. He had tests on his wrist during the playoffs, but it didn’t reveal a fracture. Kane is expected to miss 6 to 8 weeks.
“I thought it was getting better, but it’s in an area where no blood can get to the fracture and something I’m going to have fixed for later down the road,” said Kane, who wore a brace. “It’s one of those things, I fix it out now [and] it’s not going to affect me when the season comes.
The Blackhawks have decided to walk away from RFA Chris Campoli, who has an arbitration hearing on August 3rd.
“It was apparent from the beginning that their salary demands were not in concert with where we see him fitting in our team,” Bowman said. “The dollar [amount] that they’re looking for is not agreeable with our mixture. If we don’t trade him, then he will become an unrestricted free agent.”
The Blackshawks have signed defenseman Sami Lepisto to a one year deal. They also re-signed Micheal Frolik to a 3 year, $7 million deal.
- Adam Jahns via twitter: GM Bowman on Campoli: “We went back and forth and made him our best offer and it didn’t work for them.”
- Randy Sportak of the Calgary Sun: The Flames have re-signed Brendan Morrison to a 1 year deal worth $850,000 is base salary and up to $400,000 in bonuses. The Flames are now close to the cap, and have too many forwards. They may look at stashing someone in the minors. The best case scenario for the Flames would be for another team to believe in Niklas Hagman or Matt Stajan and would send a draft pick back.
- Tom Gulitti via twitter: Yesterday morning Zach Parise sent Gulitti an email saying that nothing was going on regarding his contract.
- Tom Gulitti via twitter: Adam Larsson signed a 3 year entry-level contract with the NJ Devils. The deal does not include any performance bonuses. Larsson made the decision to sign a deal without performance bonuses, he did get a signing bonus. Lamorielllo on Larsson: “That’s a decision the player made to be part of the Devils and not to be any different than anyone else in that locker room.” Lamoriello added that they and Larsson expect him to play in either the NHL or AHL next season. His deal carries a $925,000 cap hit.

- Pierre LeBrun via twitter: LeBrun spoke with Red Wings GM Ken Holland who confirmed he has spoken with Jaromir Jagr’s camp, only preliminary at this point. LeBrun spoke with Jagr who confirmed interest in coming back to NHL. Petr Svoboda, Jagr’s agent, confirms that they’ve spoken with the Red Wings and Canadiens.
- Will DePaoli of Inside Pittsburgh Sports: Jagr’s camp has reportedly been in contact with the Capitals and Rangers. The Penguins are not interested at this time.
- Dave Molinari of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: Penguins GM Ray Shero doesn’t have any deadline for re-signing winger Tyler Kennedy. He has no plans of trading his rights if nothing is finalized by July 1st. Re-signing Kennedy is still a priority for Shero despite not making much progress on a deal.
- Bob McKenzie via twitter: No players were put on waivers today, may happen tomorrow.
- Eric Francis via twitter: Niklas Hagman and Ales Kotalik are buyout possibilities for the Flames, but most likely buried in the minors. No team would likely touch Matt Stajan if he was put on waivers.
- Will DePaoli via twitter: The LA Kings remain ‘intrigued’ by Alexei Ponikarovsky, despite not having a good season.
- Erik Erlendsson of the Tampa Tribune: Lightning GM Steve Yzerman is confident that they can re-sign Steven Stamkos.
“It is our intention to resign him, but he is restricted and we have the ability to match any potential offer sheet that might be put forward and we are in position to do that,” Yzerman said. “So, we are quite confident that Steven will be playing for the Lightning, and that’s our goal and we haven’t explored anything else and we don’t intend to look at it any other way.”
Discussions are being held with representatives from 3 of their free agents; Eric Brewer, Sean Bergenheim and Dwayne Roloson.
“I’ve been in contact with all their agents, in some cases we have exchanged numbers and, in a couple of other cases with our UFAs, we’ve said we are going to see where we are with a couple of players and then we’ll get back and let them know where we stand,” Yzerman said. “And that obviously has to take place in the next couple of weeks here.”
- Chip Alexander of the Raleigh News & Observer: The Hurricanes re-signed defenseman Jay Harrison to a 2 year, $1.4 million deal. They are not close to re-signing UFAs Jussi Jokinen, Chad LaRose, and Joni Pitkanen.
“With Pitkanen, Jokinen and LaRose, we know what their position is,” Rutherford said, referring to their financial demands. “I’ve given our position. It does not appear we will be able to sign them.”
GM Jim Rutherford hasn’t had any substantive talks with Eric Cole, “We expected to hear something by now, but we have not,” Rutherford said.“Things are not moving as we had hoped, and it’s getting closer to July 1,” Rutherford said Thursday. “We may have to look at other options. It may be easier to trade for players with existing contracts. Then we would know what we would be spending next year.
“I still prefer to sign some of our players. If not, we will look at a trade.
They will not look at trading their 12th overall pick at next weeks draft, nor any of their top prospects like Zac Dalpe, Zach Boychuk or Drayson Bowman. Rutherford will look to upgrade their top 4 defenseman. Kevin Bieksa and Christian Ehrhoff could be possibilities if they hit the open market.

- Greg Brady via twitter: Sources tell Brady the earliest the Stanley Cup Finals would start would be next Monday. There will be no games on this Saturday regardless.
- Larry Brooks of the NY Post: If the Rangers wait until July 1st to go after Brad Richards, they’ll have steep competition in Toronto and Los Angeles, and the price may go up. Brooks thinks the Rangers should make an offer to the Stars before July 1st, so Richards an get acquainted with the organization, and they could get full info on his concussion this past season. Brooks thinks the Rangers should offer the Stars a 2nd round pick (#57) for Richards.
- Adrian Dater of the Denver Post: Dater doesn’t think the Avalanche will offer any a goalie a contract in the $5-6 million per season range. Free agent goalies in that range are Ilya Bryzgalov and Tomas Vokoun. Other possible goalies could be: Josh Harding – risky, JS Giguere – too many miles, Marty Turco – no thanks, Chris Osgood – pass. The trade route could be an option but comes with a price: Jonathan Quick, Jonathan Bernier, or Cory Schneider – all expensive. If they go after Vokoun, Dater would only offer a 3 year deal worth $10 million. Peter Budaj won’t be back, and they can’t go into the season hoping Brian Elliott is the answer.
- Rob Rossi of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review: The Penguins have started negotiations with free agents Pascal Dupuis and Mike Rupp. Dupuis, 32, had a cap hit of $1.4 million last year. Rupp, 31, had a $825,000.
- Will DePaoli via twitter: The Penguins have begun talks with Craig Adams. Nothing is imminent but it’s possible that they could get a deal done this week.
- Vicki Hall of the Calgary Herald: Flames GM Jay Feaster said on the radio yesterday that he has confidence the Flames will re-sign winger Alex Tanguay. “We believe we can,” the general manager said on NHL Live. “We do want to get him signed.” Tanguay signed a 1 year deal worth $1.7 million last year, and recorded 22 goals and 69 points. The Flames have 17 players under contract for next year with a cap hit of $55.8 million with an expected cap around $62.2 million. Ales Kotalik and his $3 million salary could be off to the minors next season. The future of Niklas Hagman and his $3 million is also in doubt. The Flames hope to re-sign backup goalie Henrik Karlsson. They have 4 UFA defenseman, Anton Babchuk ($1.4 million), Adam Pardy ($700,000), Steve Staios ($2.7 million) and Brett Carson ($500,000). Brendan Mikkelson ($687,500) is a RFA.
- Damien Cox of the Toronto Star: With the strong play of Maple Leafs prospects Jesse Blacker (Owen Sound) and Jake Gardiner, Carl Gunnarson could be vulnerable as Brian Burke continue to look for a number 1 center.
- Dmitry Chesnokov via twitter: St. Louis Blues prospect Vladimir Tarasenko has decided to spend another year in the KHL. Update: “Sibir GM tells SovSport the Blues made an “exclusive offer” to Tarasenko “like no other…guaranteeing he’d play.” “Sibir GM to Sovsport about the Blues’ offer to Tarasenko: “We had no idea the Blues wanted [Tarasenko] to come so bad. But it’d be better for him to play 1 more year in Russia before moving to the NHL.”
- Joe Yerdon via twitter: Doug Weight is expected to announce his retirement today.

- Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun: Garrioch thinks there are 3 restricted free agents to keep an eye on. Steven Stamkos: He probably would like one of those large 12 year, $120 million contracts, but the Lightning more interested in a 6 year, $8.5 million per season deal. Zach Parise: Parise could head to arbitration. He could sign a 1 year deal and become an unrestricted free agent next year. He could get a deal in the $5.5 million range. Shea Weber: The Predators aren’t big spenders, and Weber could be worth $6-6.5 million. Islanders coach Jack Capuano is likely to be named their full time coach. Ilya Bryzgalov and Tomas Vokoun are the top goalies on the market, look for the Avalanche to go after Vokoun. Garrioch thinks Ottawa’s Cory Clouston, Minnesota’s Todd Richards and Florida’s Peter DeBoer could all be looking for new work next year. Most managerial/coaching positions in Columbus may not be safe despite what their team president is saying.
- Pierre LeBrun of ESPN: A source told LeBrun there is “no way” the Maple Leafs go after Ilya Bryzgalov this off-season. Goalie coach Francois Allaire and Bryzgalov don’t get along, and they also believe they have a starter in James Reimer. Their current plan is to see Jonas Gustavsson does in training camp. They could pick a goalie off waivers or bring back Giguere on a cheap one year deal. The Capitals hope to have Dennis Wideman back sometime during the playoffs. Mike Green feels he’s ready to go, and could play in a game or 2 before the playoffs. Tom Poti is skating, but they don’t know when he’ll return from the groin injury. It’s expected that Adam Foote could announce in the next 7-10 days that he’s retiring. The Ducks have some goaltending issues to address this offseason. Ray Emery will be a UFA, they are concerned about Jonas Hiller’s vertigo issues (3 more year, $4.5 million cap hit), and they have Dan Ellis for 1 more year at $1.5 million.
- John Vogl of the Buffalo News: Ryan Miller is still unable to practice and did not travel with the team to Washington. He is still bothered by an upper body injury caused by a Dian Phaneuf slap shot. Jordan Leopold has been unable to see a hand specialist for the last week as he’s had the flu and then pneumonia.
- Ted Kulfan of the Detroit News: Pavel Datsyuk is expected to play today. Niklas Kronwall is still not ready to go.
- Eric Stephens of OC Register: Ducks defenseman Lubomir Visnovsky left the game with an upper body injury after being hit by Doug Murray of the Sharks. He was favoring his shoulder and will be re-evaluated today.
- Vancouver Province: Canucks defenseman Alex Edler could return on Thursday against the Wild but Saturday against the Flames is more likely.

- Bruce Garrioch via twitter: The Senators and Chris Phillips will continue to talk today, both sides will need to figure out if the gap can be closed. If it’s decided that he won’t be re-signing, options are for him to waive his no trade clause, or finish out the year with the Sens. Garrioch thinks it’s going to be an 11th hour decision. Darren Dreger adds that if the Senators offer just over $3 million for 3 years, Phillips would take it.
- Eric Francis of the Calgary Sun: From a Dean Lombardi (Kings GM) text, “Brayden Schenn is not going anywhere,” The Kings are still looking at Ales Hemsky and Brad Richards. Andrei Loktionov who was possible trade bait injured his shoulder and could be done for the year. The Colorado Avalanche told the Calgary Sun that they won’t trade Paul Stastny. Adam Foote and Milan Hejduk will be staying as well. Canucks GM Mike Gillis confirmed that he won’t be trading Cory Schneider or Cody Hodgson. He’ll be looking for a 3rd-4th liner, not a defenseman, John Maddon isn’t a fit due to salary. The Flames are looking for a depth defenseman. Agent Pat Brisson on Sidney Crosby, “We don’t know if it’s two weeks, two months or five months.” Jim Vandermeer and Ladislav Smid are more likely to move than Dustin Penner and Ales Hemsky.
- David Pagnotta via twitter: “Take it for what it’s worth… but Kings GM Dean Lombardi says he won’t trade Brayden Schenn.”
- EJ Hradek via twitter: Hradek thinks it’s doubtful that the Lightning put a claim on Ty Conklin.
- Detroit Free Press: ESPN reported that there was some chatter that the Red Wings were interested in Zach Bogosian. Wings GM Ken Holland said he has never talked to Atlanta.
- Daniel Tolensky via twitter: Tolensky is surprised that Patrick Elias rumors haven’t come up at all, and that he’d look good beside Kopitar.
- David Pagnotta via twitter: Pagnotta thinks the Canadiens will try to re-sign Andre Markov, Josh Gorges, and James Wisniewski.
- David Pagnotta via twitter: Pagnotta thinks that Blue Jackets GM Scott Howson is doing his best to make a ‘big splash.’
- Jim Morris of the Globe and Mail: The Canucks won’t be making a big deal. “I don’t think we have any glaring deficiencies,” Gillis said Saturday, “We think we did a fairly good job and our record seems to indicate we’ve done a good job. Sometimes at the trade deadline you simply don’t have the opportunity to do things. If there is something we can do to improve our team now, it if comes our way and it makes sense, we’re going to do it.” They may look to add one of Marty Reasoner (FLA), Rob Niedermayer (BUF), Chris Neil (OTT) or Cody McLeod (COL).
- Harvey Fialkov of the Sun Sentinel: Fialkov thinks that the Panthers will look to re-sign Marty Reasoner, and that Stephen Weiss could be the next captain.
- Vicki Hall of the Calgary Herald: Flames winger Niklas Hagman has the flu but should be good for today. Tim Jackman has an upper body injury from a fight with Ryane Clowe and is day-to-day. Daymond Langkow is progressing and is taking part in light workouts.
- Joe Haggerty via twitter: Bruins defenseman Andrew Ference has a lower body injury and will need to be reevaluated.
