Canadiens and Flames pull off trade involving Cammalleri and Bourque
The Montreal Canadiens have traded Mike Cammalleri, Karri Ramo and a 2012 5th round pick for Rene Bourque, Patrick Holland and a 2013 2nd round pick.
Gus Katsaros via twitter: Canadiens “sacrifice some skill for work ethic & multi-dimensional contribution in Bourque than just goals .. versatile, shuffles through lineup.”
Pierre LeBrun via twitter: One GM said he wished he knew that Cammalleri was available, would have made an offer.
Pierre LeBrun via twitter: On the upside for the Canadiens, they clear some cap space. Bourque is a $3.3 million cap hit compared to Cammalleri’s $6 million hit.
James Duthie via twitter: Canadiens GM Pierre Gauthier: “We need to score the hard goals…not the fancy goals…Bourque scores most of his goals from the hard areas.”
Pierre LeBrun via twitter: Flames GM Jay Feaster: “It’s been percolating for quite some time, we’ve been having a lot of conversations.”

Ducks should trade Getzlaf? Bourque up for suspension … Blues sale terminated … Theodore out 2 weeks … Weber practices
Posted by Mark Easson in Fantasy Hockey News, NHL Injuries, NHL News, NHL Rumors, NHL Videos on January 4th, 2012
- Jeff Miller of the OC Register: Miller thinks the Ducks should trade Ryan Getzlaf if there is a deal that significantly improves the Ducks. Miller: “For whatever reason, this just isn’t working. It isn’t working for the Ducks, and it certainly isn’t working for Getzlaf.” Getzlaf has only 6 goals and 25 points, and is on pace for 55 points. He entered the year averaging .965 points per game. Selanne may want to finish his career on a contender: “You never say ‘never,’ ” Selanne explained. “But I don’t want to waste any thoughts on it right now. It’s time to have fun here. You just keep fighting as long as you can breathe.”
- Stephen Whyno via twitter: Flames forward Rene Bourque has a hearing with the NHL over an elbow to the head of Nicklas Backstrom. Chuck Gormley of CSN Washington: Capitals Niklas Backstrom left last night’s game after taking a Rene Bourque elbow to the head. He was removed from the game for precautionary reasons, and will be evaluated today. Video at bottom of entry.
- Jeremy Rutherford of the St. Louis Post Dispatch: The NHL has terminated the purchase agreement between the Blues and Matthew Hulsizer. Blues minority owner Tom Stillman has the opportunity to step in and purchase the team. Hulsizer didn’t make the NHL’s imposed deadline to buy the club. Hulsizer was attempting to restructure the financing of the deal several times. Some sources are saying that Stillman has an exclusive 75 day window to complete the deal, while other are saying the Blues can negotiate with anyone, including Hulsizer.
- Josh Yohe of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review: Penguins Pascal Dupuis, out with an upper-body injury, skated before practice and is day-to-day. Arron Asham is also day-to-day, didn’t skate yesterday but isn’t walking around with a limp after taking a shot off the knee.
- Jim Gintonio of the Arizona Republic: The Coyotes have activated goalie Mike Smith off the IR. Curtis McElhinney has been assigned to the AHL.
- Sam Carchidi of the Philadelphia Inquirer: Flyers James van Riemsdyk will fill in for the injured Jaromir Jagr on the top line with Claude Giroux and Scott Hartnell. Ilya Bryzgalov is expected to start on Thursday.
- Renaud Lavoie via twitter: Panthers goalie Jose Theodore will be out at least 2 weeks with a knee injury.
- Mike Organ of the Tennessean: Predators defenseman Shea Weber practiced yesterday with limited contact for the 1st time since suffering a concussion 12 days ago. “There is still no time line on him,” Trotz said. “It’s when he feels comfortable; when he feels that he’s ready to go, then he’ll come and let us know. Between the doctors, the trainers and Shea, they’ll make that decision.”

Filatov having KHL issues … Flames weren’t 1 of 3 finalists for Turris … Suter/Weber update … Seabrook could have concussion … Team lines …
Posted by Mark Easson in Fantasy Hockey News, NHL Injuries, NHL News, NHL Rumors on December 19th, 2011
- Dmitry Chesnokov via twitter: Nikita Filatov’s agent has asked for a trade from the CSKA of the KHL if the team doesn’t complete the paperwork by midnight. If CSKA doesn’t sign or trade him, Filatov will return to Ottawa.
- Eric Francis of the Calgary Sun: The Flames tried to trade for Kyle Turris before he was sent to the Senators for David Rundblad and a 2nd round pick, “But in the end, they weren’t one of the three finalists” according to Coyotes GM Don Maloney.
“We had eight to 10 teams that showed more than a passing interest in him, but three teams in the last couple of days made significant offers we could live with.”
- Elliotte Friedman of CBC.ca: Predators David Poile responds, ”Ask me on February 27,” to the question about what he is going to do with Ryan Suter and Shea Weber. Boston, Chicago, Detroit, Minnesota and Philadelphia all have the cap room to add one of the 2 defensemen. Poile still hopes to sign them.
“If he trades one or both in February, he is going to get a huge return,” said another GM. “If he waits until [after the playoffs], it’s going to be much less.”
Poile also made is sound like that if they were still in the playoff race, he may not deal either. Coyotes GM Maloney asked the Senators for Mika Zibanejad or the Senators 1st round pick in exchange for Turris.
- Adam Jahns of the Chicago Sun-Times: After taking a hit from Rene Bourque last night, Brent Seabrook left the game with what could be a concussion.
- Katie Carrera via twitter: Capitals Jay Beagle has been cleared for contact.
- Dennis Bernstein via twitter: Bernstein doesn’t see the Kings making a deal before tonight’s roster freeze.
- Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch: The Blue Jackets split up Jeff Carter and Rick Nash for the first time. Carter played with Vinny Prospal and Mark Letestu. Nash was with Derick Brassard and RJ Umberger.
- Lance Hornby of the Toronto Sun: Maple Leafs center Tim Connolly has moved up between Phil Kessel and Joffrey Lupul. Tyler Bozak moves back between Matt Frattin and either Joey Crabb or Colby Armstrong. Mikhail Grabovski will center Clarke MacArthur and Nikolai Kulemin.
- Marc Antoine Godin via twitter: Canadiens lines: Moen-Plekanec-Cammalleri, Pacioretty-Desharnais-Cole, AK46-Eller-Leblanc, Blunden-Nokelainen-Darche.
- Rich Chere via twitter: Devils lines: Zach Parise-Adam Henrique-Ilya Kovalchuk Sykora-Tim Sestito-Zubrus; Tedenby-Zajac-Clarkson;Boulton-Carter-Janssen.

- Mark Stepneski via twitter: Stars lines: Eriksson-Benn-Ryder; Morrow-Ribeiro-Ott; Nystrom-Fiddler-Dvorak; Dowell-Wandell-Petersen. Defensive pairings: Souray-Robidas; Grossman-Daley; Goligoski-Fistric.
- Jonas Siegel via twitter: James Reimer will start in net for the Maple Leafs against Jonathan Quick and the Kings.
Giroux practices … Arniel safe … Burke could be looking at a Jan. trade … Parise only dealt if can’t be re-sign
Posted by Mark Easson in NHL Injuries, NHL News, NHL Rumors on December 19th, 2011
NHL holiday roster freeze kicks in at midnight tonight and ends at midnight on the 27th.
- Tim Panaccio of CSN Philly: Claude Giroux practiced with the Flyers yesterday in a no contact jersey for the first time since sustaining a concussion. He said his headaches are “pretty much” gone. Giroux is not expected to play until after Christmas, and could miss the Winter Classic.
- Aaron Portzline via twitter: Columbus Blue Jackets GM Scott Howson on Scott Arniel’s coaching status:
“Coaching is not an issue on this team, as to where we are right now.”
“The players have to take it upon themselves to play better. “We’re all struggling through this, players included.”
- Kevin Paul Dupont via twitter: The Maple Leafs are wilting, so expect GM Brian Burke to make a significant deal at the start of January. It’s time for ID “tradeables” on the Leafs roster.
- Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch: The Blue Jackets talked with the Coyotes about Kyle Turris, but they couldn’t find a match. It’s likely the Blue Jackets will trade Vinny Prospal at the trade deadline. The 36 year old will be a UFA at the end of the season.
- Darren Dreger of TSN: Before being sent to the Canadiens for Jaroslav Spacek, the Hurricanes were offering a 2nd round pick to anyone willing to take Tomas Kaberle’s contract. If the Canadiens miss the playoffs or are knocked out early, can expect a full organizational review, with GM Pierre Gautier being very vulnerable. A few teams have made strong offers for Maple Leafs defensemen Keith Aulie and Cody Franson. They were “good” offers, but Burke isn’t interested in trading either defenseman at the moment. Burke may use Franson as a “piece” in his “fine tuning.” Aulie may only be dealt if he’s part of a bigger deal. The Devils priority is to re-sign Zach Parise, and he’d only be dealt after Lamoriello has done everything he can to re-sign him. Dreger thinks the Red Wings and Penguins would be as aggressive on Parise as other teams.
- Chip Alexander of the Raleigh News & Observer: Hurricanes GM Jim Rutherford is still looking to make some trades, and has often brought up dealing a defenseman for a forward.
- Michael Russo via twitter: The Wild have called up Chad Rau and Jed Ortmeyer, placed Casey Wellman on the IR, and sent Cody Almond back to the AHL. The Wild do not expect Mikko Koivu or Pierre-Marc Bouchard to be in the lineup.
- Darren Dreger via twitter: Flames Rene Bourque will have a disciplinary hearing for his hit on Blackhawks Brent Seabrook.
- Dallas Morning News: Richard Bachman is expected to start for the Stars against the Ducks.
10 teams looking for Dmen … Suter could become available … Turris notes … Flames have little patience … CBJ interested in Hextall? Gillis keeping Schneider for now
Posted by Mark Easson in NHL News, NHL Rumors on November 6th, 2011
- Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun: At least 10 teams have been looking for a defenseman, with league sources saying, “if you’ve got an extra defenceman, you might want to hold onto him.” The Canadiens, Rangers, Oilers, Canucks, Blues, Jets, Coyotes, Lightning, Jackets and Islanders have been looking for help. Garrioch thinks teams should be calling Predators GM David Poile as the belief is that he won’t be signing Ryan Suter to an extension and will become available. The Canucks and Flames have more interest than the Senators for Kyle Turris. Rene Bourque’s name pops up as trade bait, but the Coyotes are also looking for a 1st round pick as part of a deal. There are whispers that this could be the last season in Phoenix since no one has stepped up to by the team. Quebec City and Kansas City are the leading candidates. Capitals coach Bruce Boudreau could be on a short leash. Islanders GM Garth Snow has been working the phones trying to move the pointless (8 games) Blake Comeau and his $2.5 million salary. He’ll be a RFA after the season. Comeau had 46 points last year. The Isles may be looking for a 2nd line center. Maple Leafs GM Brian Burke is willing to move defenseman Cody Franson. Garrioch wonders if it’s time for the Blue Jackets to consider trading Rick Nash.
- Steve MacFarlane of the Calgary Sun: Change may be coming in Calgary. Flames GM Jay Feaster:
“Every option that’s available and open to is going to be explored.”
“I’m not going to get into specifics on what my intent is, but I can assure you we don’t have a lot of patience organizationally right now. The goal is we expect to be a playoff team.
“My job is to improve the hockey team every day, and I’m going to avail myself with every possible means of doing that.”
“I have had some conversations with teams, that you’re kicking some ideas around and all of a sudden they reel off three or four straight wins and it’s, ‘We’re just going to sit for now,’ “ Feaster said. “That’s the reality of the business.
Feaster has no interest in trading draft picks. He won’t sacrifice long-term for a short-term fix.
- Aaron Portzline via twitter: Portzline, “it’s hard to imagine there aren’t big changes coming” in Columbus. Word is that LA Kings assistant GM Ron Heztall could be headed to Columbus. Helene Elliott via twitter: Kings GM Dean Lombardi has said that no one has contacted him about Hextall. Teams would need permission to speak with Hextall. Ron Hextall on the Blue Jackets job: “I have not heard anything.” Aaron Portzline via twitter: The Blue Jackets may have to compensate a team with draft picks if they take a ‘high-ranking official’ part way through the season.
- Darren Dreger of TSN: (Mailbag) There’s a market for Kyle Turris despite his limited success as he’s only 22 and still has potential. There is interest, but teams aren’t willing to overpay. Coyotes GM Don Maloney is still saying he won’t trade him until he signs, but some think he’s talking in code for not going to trade him for what he’s being offered. The Canucks aren’t putting Cory Schneider’s name out there as GM Mike Gillis likes the 1-1A theory. There may be a point in the season that Gillis deems he’s a movable asset, and teams will line up. The Blue Jackets and Devils will be in line. Moving Roberto Luongo would be more difficult task since his deal goes into his 40′s. He does have a couple of clauses in his deal that allows for a trade. There isn’t a sense in Edmonton that they need to acquire a defenseman right away. The Lightning could also be looking for a defenseman. The Maple Leafs and Hurricanes are willing to move a defenseman. The Flames aren’t shopping Rene Bourque but if the right deal came along for a young center they may consider. If the Canadiens were to consider buying out Scott Gomez it would cost them: 2012-13: $3,523,810, 2013-14: $4,523,810, 2014-15: $1,666,667, 2015-16: $1,666,667.
- Dennis Bernstein via twitter: Look for Jonathan Quick to start on Monday.
Possible trade scenarios between Flames-Coyotes … Hasek wants to play again … Stars lines … Jokinen centering Iginla
Posted by Mark Easson in NHL News, NHL Rumors on November 4th, 2011
- Steve MacFarlane of the Calgary Sun: Kyle Turris’ deadline to sign a contract is getting closer. He has to sign a deal by Dec. 1st if he wants to play in the NHL this year. The longer the situation drags out, the stronger the Coyotes position becomes in both the trade market and sending a message that they won’t be bullied by an unproven 22 year old. The Flames want him now, but what would it take to get him? It would likely take draft picks and prospects. MacFarlane wonders if a 3rd rounder and TJ Brodie could get a deal done. He also lists off other possible trade scenarios.
Heading to Phoenix:
• 2012 1st-round pick, conditional mid-round selection
• G Joni Ortio and a 2013 2nd-round pick
• RW Rene Bourque and a 2012 4th-round pick
• D T.J. Brodie and RW Patrick Holland and a 3rd-round pick
• D T.J. Brodie and LW Greg Nemisz and a 4th-round pick
• RW Rene Bourque and D T.J. Brodie for Turris and LW Boyd Gordon
- The Detroit News: The
6046 year old Dominik Hasek (47 in Jan.) is considering playing hockey in Europe. He’s been keeping in shape so that he’s “ready” to play again.
“All those activities keep me in good shape,” he said in the story at NHL.com. “I still think about returning to play hockey next year, so it is important for me to do other sports now and be ready.”
- Mike Heika of the Dallas Morning News: Lines at yesterdays Stars practice: Morrow-Ribeiro-Burish, Eriksson-Benn-Ryder, Nystrom-Fiddler-Dvorak, Barch-Dowell-Petersen. Defensive pairings: Goligoski-Fistric/Pardy, Souray-Robidas, Grossman-Daley.
- Vicki Hall of the Calgary Herald: The Flames are again trying Olli Jokinen at center with Jarome Iginla.
Flames interested in Turris, shopping Bourque … Oilers in no need to rush Gagner trade … Kaleta hearing today … Green has setback … Hedberg starts
Posted by Mark Easson in NHL News, NHL Rumors on November 3rd, 2011
- Scott Cruickshank of the Calgary Herald: It’s no secret that the Flames and Senators have shown interest in Kyle Turris. Cruickshank wonders exactly how much talent does he have? He had only 25 points in 65 games last year. He is still young, and was the 3rd overall pick in 2007. If the Flames were to win the bidding war for him, what if they give him Matt Stajan money and he turn out to be Matt Stajan. If they were to get him, they would have a nice young core up the middle with Turris, 22, and Mikael Backlund, 22, and Roman Horak, 20. What the cost would be is the big question?
- Mark Spector of Sportsnet: Flames GM Jay Feaster said he’s not doing a full rebuild in Calgary and won’t subject fans to having a team finish at the bottom of the standings for several years. Word is that he’s been shopping Rene Bourque and is interested in Turris.
- David Staple of the Edmonton Journal: Staples take on the Sam Gagner trade rumors. With the emergence of several defenseman, the need of an upgrade along the blueline is not that pressing at the moment. They appear to have 4 capable blueliners, even without Ryan Whitney. By the trade deadline, the Oilers may have to move someone, either Ales Hemsky, Gagner or Linus Omark. Other wingers haven’t solidified themselves as long term Oilers/top line NHLers: Ryan Smyth (UFA at seasons end), Ryan Jones and Magnus Paajarvi. There is no rush for the Oilers to rush into a deal. They need to see if Smyth and Hemsky can stay healthy, if Gagner can pick it up, and if Omark and Paajarvi can put up points in the NHL.
- Adrian Dater of the Denver Post: Though it’s hard to forecast ahead, Dater thinks the Avs could spend some of their cap space on the right rental player.
- Nick Kypreos via twitter: Sabres forward Patrick Kaleta will have a hearing at 1:00 pm today for an incident in the 1st period of last night’s game.
- Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch: Jeff Carter will travel with the team to Philadelphia this weekend, but won’t play. Kristian Huselius practiced in a no-contact jersey yesterday for the 1st time since he torn his chest muscle in July. He’s still weeks away. Winger Jared Boll is also weeks away.
- Katie Carrera of the Washington Post: Capitals defenseman Mike Green had an apparent setback yesterday as he wasn’t able to skate for more than 10 minutes. He’s doubtful for Friday, and has missed 3 games so far.
“If I feel good I’ll play,” Green said. “It’s day to day. I wake up each day, it feels a little bit better, tomorrow could be a lot better than today.
“It’s just one of the things, with your ankles and the skate,” Green added. “If I can’t skate, I cant play. The swelling stayed down; it’s just a matter of getting it strong and comfortable enough to play. I figure in the next couple days it should be strong and we can go from there.”
- Tom Gulitti of the Bergon Record: Johan Hedberg will start in net for the Devils tonight against the Flyers.
- Dan Murphy via twitter: Cory Schneider will start in net for the Canucks tonight against Josh Harding and the Wild.
Flames rumors … CBJ issues … GMs may look for mandatory visors … Doughty this week is possible … Connolly stays … Whitney injured again
Posted by Mark Easson in NHL Injuries, NHL News, NHL Rumors on October 26th, 2011
- Eric Francis of the Calgary Sun: Francis laughs at the rumor that Daniel Alfredsson could interest the Flames at some point. The Flames do have an interest in Coyotes holdout Kyle Turris. A source close to the situation has said that the Flames are one of six teams to make a ‘significant’ offer. Coyotes GM Don Maloney is still saying he doesn’t have plans to trade him. Rene Bourque is also front and center in trade rumors lately. Flames GM Jay Feaster continues to tell other GMs that Mark Giordano is not available. Francis doesn’t see the Flames trading Jarome Iginla. Ollie Jokinen wants to re-sign with the Flames. Tim Jackman and Tom Kostopoulos are UFAs and could draw minor interest at some point. David Moss won’t be traded unless he wants out. They would love to move Matt Stajan and his $3.5 million salary in a package, but it’s unlikely that there is anyone else on their roster to draw that much interest.
- Ken Warren of the Ottawa Citizen: The Blue Jackets are having issues on and off the ice. There are reports that they are losing $25 million a season, and there is talk about the long-term survival of the franchise. Their last few home games have only drawn 9,000 fans.
- James Mirtle of the Globe and Mail: Two high profile GMs have said they’d like to see more players starting next season.
“Visors should be mandatory for all defencemen, at the least,” Burke said, adding that blueliners are at “a far greater risk” of being hit in the face by a puck because of all the deflections in front of the net.
“I’d want to hear the GMs out on the larger topic [of everyone having to wear them], but I think I would support Homer.”
- Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Sun: The Jets won’t be pulling off any blockbuster deals because the team is off to a slow start. They may pull off some smaller deals along the way, but finding a trade partner who isn’t trying to fleece is hard to find. Most teams aren’t looking to get rid of 30 goal scorers and many teams would like to upgrade their blueline.
- Rich Hammond of LA Kings Insider: Kings defenseman Drew Doughty was wearing a no-contact jersey again at practice yesterday. When asked yesterday when Doughty will see the doctor next, Murray said, “The opportunity will probably be tonight, to see the doctor at the rink. We plan on taking him with us on the road trip, kind of shooting for the end of the week here as a possibility.”
- Erik Erlendsson via twitter: Lightning GM Steve Yzerman confirmed that they will be keeping Brett Connolly and won’t be sending him back to junior.
- Shaun Starr via twitter: Canadiens Max Pacioretty has a partially torn ligament in his wrist. Starr has been told surgery is unlikely. Renaud Lavoie via twitter: It’s a partial tear, no breaks, deep bruise. He could be back in the lineup this week.
- Dan Tencer via twitter: Oilers coach Tom Renny says that Ryan Whitney has a sprained knee but it’s not significant. A few days and he should be fine.
- Michael Russo of the Star Tribune: Wild forward Guilaume Latendresse is bothered by a wonky groin again, and look for the Wild to be cautious with him. Dany Heatley and Greg Zanon are also bothered by groin issues. Brett Bulmer will play in his 9th game on Thursday and likely won’t be returned to junior.
- Luke DeCock via twitter: Scouts in Carolina last night were the Blue Jackets, Flyers and Penguins. The Canes play the Flyers and Pens in the next 3 weeks. They don’t play the Blue Jackets.
Crosby feels he’s close … Habs and Lightning looking for Dman … Jets could show interest in Bourque … Reimer and Backes injured … Duchene on 4th line
Posted by Mark Easson in NHL Injuries, NHL News, NHL Rumors on October 23rd, 2011
- Shelly Anderson of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: Penguins captain Sidney Crosby considers himself close to returning, but that doesn’t mean he’ll play in the next couple games.
“I need to get in some contact, more than just one bump in a morning skate,” Crosby said. “It’s got to be a few days of that. Whenever we can get some of those days together — and, hopefully, I’ll respond well to that — then I’ll be much closer than I am right now.”
- Josh Yohe of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review: Evgeni Malkin missed his 5th straight game last night. He’s skated the past 2 days without any pain, and the Penguins believe he’ll be back soon. He’s been having issues with lingering scar tissue in his right knee. Defenseman Zbynek Michalek left in the 3rd period of last night’s game and they are unsure of the severity.
- Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun: The Canadiens have no idea when Andrei Markov will return. Unhappy with the with the way they’ve been playing, GM Pierre Gauthier may be willing to trade Andrei Kostitsyn to bring in some help. Kostitsyn will be a free agent after the season and is making $3.25 million. Kostitsyn is inconsistent but it might bring the team a veteran defenseman. Lightning GM Steve Yzerman is also looking to add a defenseman. The Blue Jackets were rumored to have offered Steve Mason and Jakub Voracek to the Flyers for Mike Richards before the Jeff Carter deal was made. Flyers winger Scott Hartnell will have a cap hit of $4.2 million for the next 2 years and finds himself on the 3rd line. Coyotes aren’t shopping RFA holdout Kyle Turris but they are getting calls. Don’t be surprised if the Jets show interest in Flames Rene Bourque as they need help up front. The Canucks aren’t trying to trade defenseman Keith Ballard.
- Darren Dreger via twitter: Lots of talk around the league. The Canucks may not be done.
- Lance Hornby of the Toronto Sun: Maple Leafs goalie James Reimer left last night’s game after the 1st period. He was hit in the head by Brian Gionta and suffered “whiplash-type symptoms” according to coach Ron Wilson. “This early in the season, we didn’t want to risk it,” Wilson said of keeping Reimer in the room the rest of the night. “It was clearly an elbow to the head. I don’t know if you’d call it a head shot, but when you knock the goalie’s mask off …”
- Jeremy Rutherford of the St. Louis Post Dispatch: Blues forward David Backes collided with Flyers defenseman Chris Pronger in the 2nd period. They hit shoulder to shoulder, with Backes appearing to bang his head off the ice.
- Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal: Oilers coach Tom Renny talked to Ryan Nugent-Hopkins about the comments on made on Friday about sitting RNH down. Renny didn’t tell him if he’ll remain with the team for the season. Matheson via twitter: Nugent-Hopkins swears he hasn’t been told if he’ll play past 9 games this year. Taylor Hall was told after 4 games last year that he’d be staying.
- Bill Beacon of CP in the Globe and Mail: Canadiens forward Scott Gomez will be out out at least a week with an upper-body injury.
- Ken Warren of the Ottawa Citizen: Senators Matt Carkner and Bobby Butler practiced with the team but both are a “still a distance away” from getting back in the lineup. Peter Regin re-injured his shoulder on Thursday and they are awaiting a prognosis from the doctors.
- Adrian Dater of the Denver Post: After only registering 1 goal and 3 assists in 7 games, Avalanche center Matt Duchene found himself centering the 4th line of Jay McClement and Cody McLeod last night. He only played 11:35 minutes.
Weber has hearing today … Flames working phones … Sens have Dmen available … Dater’s trade proposals … Gomez injured … Flyers, Devils, Habs lines
Posted by Mark Easson in NHL Injuries, NHL News, NHL Rumors on October 21st, 2011
- Nick Kypreos via twitter: Predators defenseman Shea Weber has a hearing today at 2:00 pm for a boarding call last night.
- Pierre LeBrun of ESPN: Flames GM Jay Feaster:
“I’m not going to sit around and wait”, Feaster told ESPN.com Thursday. “There is urgency here. There’s very much a sense of urgency. We kept this group together for a reason this summer. We articulated what that was and articulated to the players. They talked about the need to get off to a good start. We saw what happened last season when you dig yourself a hole. We played like our pants were on fire in the second half last year and it [still] wasn’t enough. We’re all paying lip service to what we needed to do. Now we need to do it.”
“Obviously I’m making phone calls and people are making phone calls to me,’’ said Feaster. “It’s not something I’m looking to do, I want to win with this group. That’s what I want to do.
“We like the team we have. But we talked repeatedly about it all summer and in camp, the need to get off to a good start.’’
Senators GM Bryan Murray:
“Yes, and I hate to say this, but if there’s a need on another team for a veteran defenseman, we’ll probably one have available that we’d be willing to talk about.’’
Sergei Gonchar still has another year left at $5.5 million and a no-movement clause.
- Adrian Dater of SI.com: Dater runs through some players who could be traded, and who might be interested. 1. Rene Bourque (CAL) – The Avalanche could offer one of their top 3 defensive prospects and/or throw in winger TJ Galiardi. 2. Jay Bouwmeester (CAL) – Dater wonders about a Bouwmeester for Tuomo Ruutu deal. 3. Lots of Blue Jackets – Rich Nash is due between $7.5 and $8.2 million until 2017-18. The last 6 years of Fedor Tyutin’s deal are for $4.5 million. Marc Mathot has a 4 year deal at $3 million. James Wisniewski has a 6 year deal. Dater notes that other than Nash, the others may not get much interest. 4. Derek Morris (PHO) on a 3 year, $2.75 million per deal – Dater proposes a Morris for Alex Tanguay deal. Tanguay signed a 5 year deal at $3.5 million. Dater says that Olli Jokinen makes sense too. Adrian Dater via twitter: Some of the trade scenario talk was meant to have some humor too.
- Eric Engels via twitter: As for Canadiens GM Pierre Gauthier giving Andrei Markov a 3 year deal, Gauthier said mid-season last year that they weren’t concerned about Markov’s rehab. That his injuries didn’t factor into their desire to want him to return and his want to re-sign with the Canadiens.
- Josh Yole via twitter: Evgeni Malkin is looking better as practice goes on today. Will be interesting to see if he’ll play tomorrow.
- Pat Hickey of the Montreal Gazette: Canadiens forward Scott Gomez left last night’s game with an upper-body injury. He was initially hurt after taking a hit from Engelland, tried for one more shift after, but then left.
