- Anthony SanFilippo via twitter: There is no deal for the Maple Leafs today but there could be something in the works between them and the Ducks involving Bobby Ryan. Darren Dreger via twitter: In general, Dreger has been told that trade discussions with the Maple Leafs are currently very quiet.
- Brian Burke via twitter: “Speak with all 30 clubs as often as daily. Our top guy Dave Nonis shares this load. In quiet times, once every 10 days.”
- Dan Rosen via twitter: “Ownership’s intention is this player will finish his career with the Flames,” Feaster said. “There is no appetite to trade Jarome Iginla.”
- David Pollak via twitter: Trade rumors involving Sharks forward Ryane Clowe are bogus. Makes less sense with Martin Havlat injured.
- Mark Spector via twitter: Agent Pat Morris is meeting with Oilers GM Tambellini in Columbus regarding UFAs Ryan Smyth and Andy Sutton. Both are expected to be re-signed.
- Craig Custance of ESPN: Time may be running out for the struggling Sabres. “There’s a growing notion that the continuity in Buffalo has made things a bit stale. The same GM. The same coach. The same core group of players.”
- Elliotte Friedman of CBC: The Rangers don’t want to place Sean Avery back on re-entry waivers as they don’t want to have the $2 million cap hit if he gets claimed. Have to think the Rangers might do something with Wojtek Wolski and his $3.8 million cap hit. Teams ready to make a move now are: Maple Leafs, Sharks and the Blackhawks are hovering. The Ducks are one of the teams watching Leafs farmhand Korbinian Holzer closely. The Blackhawks have shown some interest in Blue Jackets Derick Brassard. The Coyotes say they won’t trade Shane Doan.
- Damien Cox of the Toronto Star: Cox thinks that if Ryan Malone and his $4.25 million cap hit (3 more years after this year) becomes available, the Leafs may be interested.

- Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun: Sources have been saying that Devils Lou Lamoriello has been gauging what Zach Parise could fetch on the trade market. Moving Parise if they are in the playoff race will be difficult decision to make. The Wild will definitely be an interested team. Lou will want a top young player, a prospect and a 1st rounder in return for Parise. The Wild may have to wait until the offseason and try to sign him as a UFA. If the Canadiens fire GM Pierre Gauthier in the offseason, Lightning GM Julien Brisbois and Pierre McGuire could be options. Maple Leafs GM Brian Burke appears to be targeting Ducks forward Bobby Ryan. It would likely cost the Leafs Joe Colborne or Nazem Kadri, a prospect and a 1st round pick. Jarome Iginla won’t be traded this season, but if they decide to move him in the offseason, the Capitals, Kings and Sharks could be interested. The Predators are doing all they can to re-sign defenseman Ryan Suter. If they don’t think they can re-sign him, he’d be a nice fit in Philly. The Hurricanes could start moving their UFAs at any moment. Should expect the Blue Jackets to make one big move before the end of the season, and Jeff Carter could be on his way out. The Leafs could be interested, but he’s under contract till 2021-22 with a $5.2 million cap hit. The Sabres might be offering up Derek Roy in hopes of getting bigger. The 5′ 9″ Roy carries a $4 million cap hit and has struggled this year. The Blackhawks may show some interest. Islanders winger P.A. Parenteau would be a nice fit in Pittsburgh.
- Eric Francis of the Calgary Sun: Despite GM Bob Murray saying that Saku Koivu and Teeme Selanne are untouchable, Selanne refused to confirm he’ll retire as a Duck:
“We still have time to go,” said Selanne, whose team will likely be all-but-eliminated from the playoff race before the Feb. 27 trade deadline. “We’ll see.”
Brian Burke on whether Flyers James van Riemsdyk concussion will affect trade talk: “No, never was serious.” The Panthers were trying to trade for Sean Avery before they signed John Madden, they are no longer interested. Several GMs think that Shane Doan will become available if the team will be leaving Phoenix. GM Don Maloney denies that he’ll trade Doan.
- Dennis Bernstein via twitter: If the Kings end up trading one of their defenseman, it would likely be Jack Johnson. He’s in the rumors as he’s a 24 year old Dman on a long term deal with a decent salary cap hit.
- Josh Rimer via twitter: The Leafs assigned Jake Gardiner to the minors, but from what Rimer has been told it might be a short stay as the Leafs could be making a deal in the next day or two.
- Michael Russo of the Star Tribune: Sources are saying that Mikko Koivu’s left shoulder injury could keep him out of the lineup for a month. The Wild are already without 2nd liners Guillaume Latendresse and PM Bouchard.
- Dallas Stars via twitter: Stars forward Jamie Benn underwent an appendectomy yesterday and will be out 10-14 days.
- Ed Tait of the Winnipeg Free Press: Jets forward Blake Wheeler did not travel with the team to Ottawa yesterday after taking a shot to the throat on Saturday night. He stayed overnight at a hospital, and tests revealed no damage. He could be released to join the team sometime today or Tuesday.
- Jeremy Rutherford of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch: Blues forward Alex Steen could return tonight from his concussion. He’s missed their last 8 games.

- Lance Hornby of the Toronto Sun: Maple Leafs GM Brian Burke said he’s looking to make a trade in hopes of boosting the clubs playoff run.
“We’re a little small up front and we don’t have much playoff experience,” he noted. “If the playoffs started tomorrow, I would still like our chances. (But) we are looking to add and get better now.”
“I’m a January guy,” he reminded “I set my price and try and let my team play through the deadine (without worrying about trades). The math doesn’t work at the deadline when 24 teams are buying. There can only be one (Stanley Cup) parade.”
The cost to acquire a big center or winger could be 1 or more young assets or a 1st or 2nd rounder this year.

- Larry Brooks of the NY Post: Sean Avery is sitting in the AHL despite a team asking the Rangers to put him on re-entry waivers. GM Glen Sather rejected the request, and are trying to make a minor-league trade in which they take on additional money. The team acquiring Avery would then be responsible for putting him on re-entry waives and risk another team claiming him, therefore taking on the ‘dead cap space’ if claimed. If claimed on re-entry waivers, Avery would carry a $445,000 cap hit for each team.
- Josh Yohe of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review: Penguins captain Sidney Crosby will skate this week. Crosby last practiced on Dec. 7th.
“He will be skating during this trip,” Bylsma said. “He also will, at some point in time, address the media. That will happen in the next few days. It isn’t a set plan, but it will happen.”
- Mike Chambers of the Denver Post: The Avalanche have activated forward Peter Mueller off the IR, and he could be in the lineup tonight against the Predators. Mueller has been battling concussions and head issues for 3 seasons with the Avs. The Avs have put defenseman Shane O’Brien on the IR.
- Jeremy Rutherford via twitter: Blues forward Alex Steen could return to the lineup tonight after missing the last 6 games with a concussion. Steen passed his baseline test yesterday and plans to see how he feels at their morning skate.
- Louis Jean via twitter: Canadiens Brian Gionta could be done for the season with a bicep tear.
- Tony Marinaro via twitter: Canadiens defenseman continues his rehab and barring any setback is set to return in early February.

- Pierre LeBrun of ESPN: Carey Price will be a RFA on July 1st. There haven’t been any talks yet, but there will before the offseason. 6 NHL team executives don’t think Predators will be able to sign both Ryan Suter and Shea Weber. GM David Poile told ESPN that ownership gave him the “financial green light” to get all of them signed to “fair-market value” deals. Now it just depends what the players think fair-market value is. LeBrun wouldn’t be shocked if Suter was looking for something in the $6.5 to $7 million range. The Carolina Hurricanes join the Maple Leafs as a team that may be looking to move a defenseman. Though it’s not known who they are looking to move, Bryan Allen will be a UFA at the end of the season.
- Scott Burnside of ESPN: Burnside hacks the Blue Jackets down calling them bad from “top to bottom, from bottom to top.” He calls Steve Mason the worst starting goalie in the league. The could fire coach Scott Arniel, and they could bring back Ken Hitchcock who is still under contract. Some flaws on how this team was built are: Mason has another year at $2.9 million. Antoine Vermette is owed $3.75 million until the end of 2014-15 (he hasn’t scored this season). Derick Brassard makes $3.2 million and has 3 points. Marc Methot makes $3 million for 3 more years. Nikita Filatov was a bust of a pick for them, passing over drafting Tyler Myers, Erik Karlsson or John Carlson.
- Andy Strickland of True Hockey: With Penguins being deep down the middle, they may be looking to move one of their centers in the near future. They have had conversations with multiple teams about Mark Letestu. Josh Yohe via twitter: Yohe adds to Strickland’s report by adding that it wouldn’t shock him and that Letestu looks lost right now.
- Ben Kuzma of the Vancouver Province: Cancucks forward Alex Burrows left in the 2nd period of last night’s game with back spasms after he was checked from behind by Chris Stewart. He’s listed as day-to-day.
- Joanne Ireland of the Edmonton Journal: Oilers forward Linus Omark has an out clause in his contract that allows him to return to Europe if he’s playing in the AHL.
“I want to play (in the) NHL and if no one lets me do that then I’m going to go to Europe,” Omark told Gibbons after practice. “I take it one day at a time and we’ll see after that.”
“(The Oilers) have a lot of young guys,” Omark said. “And they believe in them more than me, I think. I want to play in the NHL, so I am going to do my best there. Hopefully, they call me up or … Yeah, we’ll see.
“I’m not here to stay the whole season, that’s for sure.”
- Larry Brooks of the NY Post: Rangers forward Sean Avery will get into the lineup for injured Mike Rupp, who will have arthroscopic surgery on his left knee. Avery will likely be on the wing with Brian Boyle and Brandon Prust. Ruslan Fedotenko will likely be with Derek Stepan and Marian Gaborik. Renaud Lavoie via twitter: Rupp will be out 3 to 4 weeks.
- David Pollak of the San Jose Mercury News: Sharks leading scorer Joe Pavelski was given yesterday off as he’s been battling a flu that has already hit Patrick Marleau and Dan Boyle. Coach Todd McLellan expects him to play on Saturday. McLellan also wouldn’t rule out Thomas Greiss starting in net tonight against the Predators.
- Katie Carrera of the Washington Post: Capitals defenseman Mike Green staked for an hour yesterday morning, which was the longest he’s gone since he injured his ankle on Oct. 22nd.

- Mike Brophy of Sportsnet: Maple Leafs center Mikhail Grabovski is in the final year of his contract where he earns $3.1 million, with a $2.9 million cap hit. Grabovski could easily command $4 – 4.5 million deal for 5 or 6 years. Phillippe Dupuis, John-Michael Liles and Jonas Gustavson will also be UFAs.
“It depends on if he wants to stay in Toronto or if he wants to test the market and go to the highest bidder,” said one agent. “If he stays in Toronto he’ll probably take a little less than what he could get if he goes to another team.”
- Pierre LeBrun via twitter: If Sean Avery is claimed off re-entry waivers, the new team would owe him 25%, the Rangers 25% and the Stars 50%.
- Elliotte Freidman of CBC Sports: There were rumors that the Stars may be looking to trade Brendan Morrow, but he has a no-trade clause, and hasn’t been asked to waive it as of yet.
- Mark Everson of the NY Post: The Oilers have a glut of centers and have moved Sam Gagner to the wing. The Devils are thin down the middle at the moment and may have already asked the Oilers about Gagner. The Oilers would reportedly want a young defensive prospect in return, possibly Matt Taormina or Alexander Urbom. They may also require a roster winger and draft pick.
- Alan Robinson in the Globe and Mail: Penguins captain Sidney Crosby ruled himself out for this weeks games. November 11th is likely the earliest he’d return. He won’t be cleared for game action until doctors feel he can handle contact during practice. There hasn’t been much practice time for the Penguins lately.
“It’s not just an automatic thing,” Crosby said. “To go through hitting is a big step. I just want to make sure I get through that. It’s the most important thing — however long that takes. I don’t want to get too far ahead. I just want to make sure it goes well and (I) give myself the best chance to handle it.”
- Chris Kuc via twitter: Blackhawks defenseman Duncan Keith is listed as day-to-day with an upper body injury.
- John Vogl of the Buffalo News: The Sabres have put Jochen Hecht on the IR.
“We’ve shut Jochen down at different times,” Ruff said. “If the doctors feel it’s best to shut him down for a period of time, we’ll shut him down. It’s really in their hands. It isn’t up to our medical staff, and it isn’t up to Jochen. We’re under some guidance, and we’ve got to trust what our people are telling us.”
- Damian Cristodero of the St. Petersburg Times: Lightning forward Ryan Malone had X-rays on his upper body injury after Saturday’s game against the Jets, which were negative. He’s day-to-day and may not play tonight against the Hurricanes.
- Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal: Oilers forward Ales Hemsky could return in a week, and the Oilers will have to figure out what to do with Linus Omark, who’s been a healthy scratch for 5 consecutive games. He would have to clear waivers since he’s played over 60 games. The Hurricanes are looking for forwards.
- Gary Lawless of the Winnipeg Free Press: Jets defenseman Tobias Enstrom was hit in the 2nd period by Panthers Jack Skille and didn’t return for the 3rd period.

- Allen Panzeri of the Ottawa Citizen: Senators coach Paul MacLean said that Daniel Aldredsson is out with a concussion, and will be out until his concussion like symptoms are gone. Nikita Filatov will remain with the team. Craig Anderson will start in net tomorrow against the Bruins. Chris Stevenson via twitter: The Senators have put Daniel Aldredsson on the IR, he’s eligible to come back on Saturday.
- Bob McKenzie via twitter: The Rangers have put Sean Avery on re-entry waivers. Trevor Gillies (NYI) and DJ King (WAS) were put on waivers. Detroit’s Fabian Brunnstrom clears waivers.
- Kevin Paul Dupont via twitter: One of the problems the Bruins are having is finding a trade partner. The Blue Jackets are the only other desperate team. Other teams may wait until December to be motivated to make a move.
- Bucky Gleason of the Buffalo News: Scouts have been keeping an eye on the Oilers. Sam Gagner could end being moved, St. Louis?
- Eric Francis of the Calgary Flames: Marty Turco is still working out with the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds and is hoping to land a backup job in the NHL. Francis thinks he could be a good mentor for Steve Mason in Columbus. The Penguins are 31-16-7 since Crosby went out with a concussion.
- John Vogl via twitter: The Sabres have made some line adjustments: Vanek-Leino-Pominville, Adam-Roy-Stafford. Still have Gerbe-Gaustad-Kaleta & McCormick-Ellis-Boyes.

- Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch: Blue Jackets president Mike Priest “vehemently denied reports” that he had spoken with Ken Hitchcock about the possibility of returning to coach the team, or that he reached out to Craig Button about the GM position. Priest noted that any change would be spearheaded by owner John P. McConnell. Hitchcock and Button denied the report as well.
- Pat Leonard of the NY Daily News: The Rangers are expected to place Sean Avery on re-entry waivers today according to reports. Last Thursday against the Leafs, fans were chanting his name. If he clears re-entry, he could be in the lineup on Thursday.
- Pat Leonard of the NY Daily news: There is still nothing to report on Rangers defenseman Marc Staal.
- Tom Gulitti via twitter: Devils Martin Brodeur is still bothered by his sore shoulder, and he doesn’t think it will ever be 100%. It’s something that has bothered him for years, but he was able to play through it. Brodeur noted, “Even if I had it scoped (arthroscopic surgery) and they went in there and cleaned it up, it would be four months (recovery) after that.” Depending how practice goes the next couple days, he could be back in uniform on Wednesday at the earliest against the Maple Leafs.
- Steve Conroy of the Boston Herald: The Bruins are off to a 3-7 start, and have scored 2 or less goals in 8 of their 10 games. GM Peter Chiarelli has been working the trade front, but it’s not known if he thinks now is the time to make a move. He, and the players think they can turn it around. Kevin Paul Dupont via twitter: Dupont hasn’t heard anything on the trade front.
- George Richards Miami Herald: Jacob Markstrom may have taken the Panthers starting job away from Jose Theodore. “I was so happy to see Jacob get in there and do so well,’’ he said. “One of my jobs here is to help him and try to mentor him the best I can. I was really excited to see him do so well. It was great to see. He played great under some tough circumstances.’’
- Aaron Portzline via twitter: Blue Jackets management and coaches will meet to today to decide the future of Ryan Johansen who played his 9th game last night.

- Pierre LeBrun of ESPN: Bob McKenzie is reporting that the Red Wings are likely moving to the Eastern Conference next year, with the easiest replacement being the Jets. The Stars and Wild are looking to change divisions. The Stars are playing in a division that is out of their time zone. The Wild would like to replace the Wings in the Central. Steven Stamkos, Vincent Lecavalier and Martin St. Louis were a combined 1 for 17 in the shootout last year, so it’s not a surprise that they weren’t used on Monday night. With Avery’s demotion and Adam Pardy coming off the IR soon, the Stars will be $300,000 under the salary floor. GM Joe Nieuwendyk has been working the phones, likely for a forward since they are carrying 8 defenseman.
- Shelly Anderson of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: Evgeni Malkin missed his 2nd straight game with a “soreness” according to coach Dan Bylsma. “We do not think it’s a long-term thing, other than just being sore at this point in time,” Bylsma said. Sidney Crosby will have a medical evaluation sometime this week. It’s a routine check-up, but it’s possible he’ll get clearance for contact.

- James Mirtle via twitter: Stu Grimson, Chris Nilan and Jim Thomson are “considering further recourse” against Don Cherry. “Cherry’s comments were … baseless and slanderous.” Josh Cooper via twitter: Stu Grimson: “Further recourse does include an investigation into what legal recourse might be available to this group.”
- Josh Rimer via twitter: Sidney Crosby should be cleared for contact today.
- Pat Leonard of the NY Daily News: Rangers defenseman is still receiving treatment for a his headaches and likely won’t be with the team this week. Tortorella received word on Saturday that Staal was “feeling good.” Asked if he’s prepared for a long-term Staal absence, Tortorella said: “I don’t know if you prepare that way. We just – whoever’s out there practicing, we’re preparing. And if someday Marc comes in and he’s there, we’re gonna prepare him the best we can to play a game.”
- Mike Heika of the Dallas Morning News: So with Sean Avery’s salary cap number not counting against the Dallas Stars cap number while he’s on the AHL, it may require them to add someone to make sure they don’t fall below the cap floor. The new player they add may have to make $1.2 million or more. Winger Tomas Vincour is only at $800,000 so he may have to move to the AHL for a more expensive player. Some free agents GM Joe Nieuwendyk could look at: Mike Grier, John Madden, Sergei Samsonov, Steve Bernier, Chris Clark, and Michael Nylander.
- Erik Erlendsson of the Tampa Tribune: Lightning defenseman Mattias Ohlund will be out for up to a month as he’ll be having arthroscopic surgery on both knees today. He’s already on the IR, and hasn’t skated since Sept. 29th. “I’m going to say four to six weeks, but it really depends on how he feels, so it could be before that,” Yzerman said. The Lightning already have 7 healthy defenseman on the roster so it’s unlikely they look to acquire someone.
- Ted Kulfan of the Detroit News: The Red Wings power play is 0 for 9 to start the season, so they’ll try Jiri Hudler on the wing during Thursday’s game against the Canucks.
- Dmitry Chesnokov via twitter: Victor Tikhonov was waived by the Coyotes has signed with SKA in the KHL.
- Eric Stephenson of the OC Register: Recently acquired Kyle Cumiskey is expected to head to the Ducks AHL team. Goalie Jeff Deslauriers and winger Brian McGrattan need to clear waivers before they can head to Syracuse.
- Mike Zeisberger of the Toronto Sun: Leafs forward Nazem Kadri is recovering quickly, “The little bastard is back faster than I was led to believe,” Wilson said. Kadri suffered a knee injury in late September and may find himself playing for the Marlies for a bit to shed some rust. He was expected to be out 3 to 4 weeks, but is back on the ice after only 2.
- Ben Meyer-Abbott of the Chicago Sun-Times: Winger Dan Carcillo was practicing on a line with Patrick Kane and Marian Hossa yesterday.
