Oilers place Sheldon Souray on waivers … J. Staal out 10 weeks? Waiting for Salvador results

- Jeff Marek via twitter: The Edmonton Oilers have placed Sheldon Souray and Martin Gerber on waivers.
- Bob McKenzie via twitter: McKenzie wouldn’t be surprised if Souray gets claimed on re-entry waivers at half price.
- Mark Spector via twitter: Souray hasn’t been told what the next move will be, re-entry waivers or the AHL.
- Adrian Dater via twitter: Source informed Dater that Jordan Staal could miss 10 weeks with his bad foot.
- Andrew Gross via twitter: Marc Staal received 4 stitches last night have having his hand cut by a skate.
- Tom Gulitti via twitter: No word on Bryce Salvador’s test results yet. Lou won’t comment until they do.
- Jonas Siegel via twitter: Maple Leafs recall Jussi Rynnas from the Marlies. Jeff Finger should play this weekend. Luke Schenn didn’t skate this morning.
- Bob McKenzie via twitter: Others who were placed on waivers today: Brett Festerling and Danny Syvret in Anaheim; Brent Krahn in Dallas; Staffan Kronwall in Calgary; Tim Conboy, Derek Whitmore, and Colin Stuart in Buffalo.
Mueller out with concussion … Goalie injuries in Philly and Minny … Don’t count on Souray being put on waivers today

- Adrian Dater of the Denver Post: The Colorado Avalanche have lost Peter Mueller with his 2nd concussion in the last 6 months, and 3rd serious concussion in his career. He’s out indefinitely.
- Jim Matheson via twitter: Sheldon Souray can be put on waivers today, but don’t count on the Oilers doing that.
- Mike Zeisberger via twitter: Maple Leafs defenseman Brett Lebda and Matt Lashoff are both out for 10-14 days with shoulder injuries.
- Tim Panaccio via twitter: Flyers GM Paul Holmgren tells CSNPhilly that goaltender Michael Leighton has a lower back issue and the team is “cautiously optimistic.” And so it begins for the Flyers goaltending issues.
- Michael Russo of the Star-Tribune: Wild backup goalie, Josh Harding, suffered a knee injury last night. An MRI will be done today, but a Blues doctor said last night it involves a liagment. Coach Todd Richards, “Right now we’re hoping it’s something minor and something that will take a little bit of rehab, a little bit of time off, and hopefully we can get him back on the ice as soon as possible.” Anton Khudobin is next in line to backup Niklas Backstrom.
- James Mirtle via twitter: Marek Svatos will be joining Jaromir Jagr with Omsk of the KHL.
- Andy Strickland of True Hockey: Carlo Colaiacovo is day-to-day with a lower body injury. He suffered the injury last night trying to knock down a clearing attempt. He’ll be re-evaluated today.
- Steve MacFarlane of the Calgary Sun: Staffan Kronwall realizes he’s probably going to end up in the AHL season, but he’d rather be back in Sweden with his new family. Kronwall hopes that if he’s going to demoted, they could loan him to a European team. “I was hoping to play in Europe this year. If not this year, it’s obviously next year.”
Savard rumors to heat up or on hold … Kronwall back to Europe? Stempniak interest increasing … Maltby still in Wings plans?

- James Murphy of ESPN Boston: Tomas Kaberle has been link to Bruins since the 2009 draft. Marc Savard has been link to the Leafs for awhile as well, especially after Savard said he’d waive his no-trade to go there. With Kaberle’s no-trade clause kicking back in on 15th, Savard and Kaberle rumors could be heating up again. Savard’s contact being under investigation could put a damper on things though.
- Randy Sportak of the Calgary Sun: Calgary Flames defenseman, Staffan Kronwall, would rather play in Europe than play the final season of his 2 year deal with Flames. “I want to leave and play in Sweden or elsewhere in Europe. Not that I’m uncomfortable in any way with the town and the club — I liked it — but because I want to get a bit closer to my family.” The Flames have been trying to trade him to an Eastern Conference team so that his commuting distance is shorter or help arrange something in Europe.
- Andy Strickland via twitter: The Phoenix Coyotes, and few other teams are interested in signing Lee Stempniak.
- Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press: The Detroit Red Wings and Kirk Maltby are still talking. They already have 15 players under contract, so Maltby might have to play part of the season in the minors. They could do a two-way deal, Maltby wouldn’t have to clear waivers if it’s for less than 10 games or 30 days.
- Andy Strickland via twitter: The Blues are interested in Ryan Potulny, but on a two-way deal.
